I wholeheartedly agree. Simon Templeman, Michael Bell, Tony Jay, René Auberjonois, Paul Lukather… the list was immense and distinguished. Phenomenal series worth a continuation. Not a reboot or remake; continue the series.

looking at Castlevania Netflix series.... this game would have been such a better choice, i mean the story in the game is better than the Castlevania netflix story

I've always loved the subtle storytelling inherent in how Kain and Raziel understand the ancient Vampire imagery. Namely, Kain both knows the history better, and is better able to interpret the images, because he spent hundreds of years studying time, history, and the workings of prophesy in the Oracle's caves. When Raziel sees the two outcomes of the champions clashing, he's confused and frustrated because he is just desperate for answers, whereas Kain calmly and rationally breaks them down and understands that it's a prophesy with two possible outcomes. Raziel is, as always, rash and impatient, while Kain is wise, detached, and infinitely patient.

By the end Raziel gained the upper hand in pretty much every aspect, through his travels Raziel caught up with Kain in terms of knowledge, power and even uncovered crucial hidden truths that Kain could not despite all his planning and acces to the time streamer devices. True savior; Raziel's ultimate sacrifice and gift to Kain deserves nothing but Respect. Kain would always be boss though and Raziel his right hand.

@@mikau69 Thats mostly because Raziel had actual knowledge of the mastermind behind the strings. Something Kain could never figure it out. Thats why at the end Kain mentions how everything is finally out in the open.

'I am not your enemy, i am as before, your right hand ...... your sword' That scene gets me every time ... how these games were forgotten ill never understand, im torn between wanted remakes with updated combat mechanics and graphics but also never really want to see that happen because its impossible now to get the same voice actors for all of the roles and i just cant think of anyone that else that could do some of these characters justice.

I think I'd want what they did with Destroy All Humans. Just a clone of the game itself, all the original parts still there, all the original voice acting, just better graphics and mechanics. This game is perfect and the story is beautiful, I just think they need, and more than deserve an upgrade

The writing and the voice acting are literally some of the best in any media I've ever seen. Few come so close to the elegance this series dialogue has. The story as well. And the voice acting is definitely some of the best ever. It's a shame some of the actors have passed away.

You know what would be awesome? And a kinda goofy gimmik? Raziel still talking to Kain, you could keep the game play of bother characters as well. Playing Kain in the phisical world, and Raziel hoping out to do spectral puzzles. Unlike before, Raziel willingly entered the blade in order to purify it. Instead of being trapped by force... he walked in honestly. It could very well be possible that Raziel not only exists within the blade, but kept his sanity and self. By working along side Kain it would be a fun idea to use both characters to solve problems and puzzles, by manipulating the Material and the spectral realm. Plus the mental image of Kain standing around waitng for Raziel to solve puzzles also amuses me. Particularly if the two have banter as you progress.

I'm surprised this series has received this much love from all of you. What other "forgotten" series do you wish would make a return?

"You DARE imagine what I think!?" What wonderful writing and acting

I love this series of games. Such an excellent tale that winds through time and betrayal and manipulation, ending with a beautiful moment of a man who cannot fight fate, yet who wholeheartedly says "SCREW DESTINY!" in embracing his place at Kain's side.

The masterclass of story telling! Legacy of Kain could still teach current day game devs about story crafting! It honestly still blows my mind how good the narrative was for the enitre saga. 🙇‍♂ Hail Kain! Hail Raziel!

"What in the hell..." Not the words of the ageless thousand year old chessmaster Kain has been throughout most of the series, these are the words of a man. The Vampire is gone, albeit briefly, and a small flicker of the true "restored" Kain shows when he is genuinely horrified. I like this little touch in the writing, Kain's first words after Raziel finally cleanses him of Nupraptor's madness lack the eloquence of Kain the Tyrant. Now he's finally the dark savior that Nosgoth so desperately needs. I *still* wouldn't want to be subject to his rule, but at least now it will be a damn sight better than his last go at it.

Nowhere along this journey at the start of blood omen legacy of kain did I think the plot would end up here. Now the only thing I want from the next generation of consoles is this entire series remade and a final game to give this story the ending it deserves.

@juston5454 😅 I know... and I'll retort by stating that according to rumors her initial script and direction for the game were completely scraped changed for the worst by studio execs. That's the best cope out I can come up with at this moment ^^

I was training keyboard writing, by writing random stuff someone thrown to memory bank, and I was struck with my realisation that I was writing Kain's Defiance intro. Only second time when I was struck the same is when I had to write "Good man goes to War" poem from Doctor Who and "Law of Equivalent Exchange" from Fullmetal Alchemist.

Reminder: Raziel could force the corpses he was in to look like anything, and he chose to look like a wraith

I think this is just for the players. We dont know, why he should change bodies into something similar to his former model - it really serves no purpose for him.

I do so love Kain's way of opening doors! Defiance would make one hell of a live action movie.

As Raziel told Kain in LoK: SR2, even at the end, Raziel chose integrity. Also, it's ironic that the Vampires created the Soul Reaver to defeat their Hylden adversary, but in the end, it armed the Scion of Balance to defeat the God they so righteously worshipped

The mass or the Octopus also is a very interesting creature. It is a mutant vampiric life form that devours the life out of every being in the universe for its own growth and sustainment while operating in the shadows driving all races against each other to enslave humans

@@Zeburaman2005 honestly the original graphics are also like the aesthetics of the game. Whatever remaster might come has to give those landscapes that reflect stages of life and general feelings of an epoch. It must be capable of painting what a bloody corrupted apocalypse is and the glory of nosgoth before the fall of the pillars, the scary silent darkness of temples and catacombs.

It's because in DR2 he took a weaker toned voice to seem vulnerable. However, towards the end (when he and Malek confront Raziel before the Reaver blade), his voice is stronger because he doesn't try to fool Raziel anywmore.

Most satisfying moment- And in that knowledge..... Go..... Feed it....I release you!

The fact this story was never finished is the biggest tragedy in all of gaming

The advent of storytelling in games was a boon for gamers and the industry alike. And this story definitely set the bar HIGH for those that came after. This could make a damn cool series; Animated, live action, whichever.

how time goes i was 21 in 2003 playing this amazing game few months later met my wife and fast forward all these years and here we are married and with two grandchildren.

So many years but this is still THE BEST SERIES GAMES EVER MADE

The music, art, and writing all complimented each other perfectly,

Thank you so much for this upload! Watching it all again after so many years really does make me mad at what passes for good storytelling in video games these days.

Kain is the best character ever. His lines are so good. He's arrogant, he's powerful, he just doesn't care. A refreshing change from the good hero that we usually get. I mean Raziel is OK but it's much more satisfying to play as Kain.

@@gilgamesh310 Oh yeah. A lot of Soul Reaver and Blood Omen 1 especially are really cool to go back to after later games. It’s the rare case of what was added in later actually enhancing earlier titles.

I feel like Kain is just the embodiment of the middle finger. Oh, I'm supposed to sacrifice myself? How about, no? The Sarafan were vampire hunters... How about I make them vampires, or better yet, make them my high council? Nosgoth will die out in ruin? Nah, I'm pretty sure my general Raziel could fix that, he'll be fine. The Sarafan stronghold is impenetrable? B""ch I can teleport. Moebus says my death is assured? Let's kill him a couple dozen times and see if my point gets across. Raziel is supposed to kill me? Well I crawled out of hell once, so let's do it again. An eldridge god who's in control of time, space, and fate? HA! I bow to no one!

@@Taos87 I know but it's the company that went shut down and because they were bought from another company I believe the one that did Raziel was the one that passed away the old man I had a chance a few years ago before he passed away to meet him I actually wanted to become a game designer I even studied that that was my major I wanted to work for the company but when I was told that it got shut down and bought and then the game nosgoth came out I was disappointed

Damn the writing of Amy Hennig was spot on, just amazing. What would the Legacy of Kain series be without her. Awesome.

I find this game fascinating I've never played but to see something that was so well written with a series arching over 5 games is so impressive to me.

When you think about it, the entire Legacy started with Kain HOPING to get a drink at a Tavern and stay a while in Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain. Then ends in Legacy of Kain: Defiance with him believing in HOPE, at last. This isn't a game, this is a philosophical genius-momentous legend of a legacy, of a story!

The guy voicing the "Elder God" (Tony Jay) should've been the voice actor for Dagoth Ur.

4:55 Did anyone see that hilarious glitch in which Kain turned his back around quickly, then forth, and then immediately turned around confronted the Sarafan hunters approaching him when they spotted him? Even though it's a cutscene, but still hilarious though.

@@richielalanne5164 yeah, but who should play whom? Christopher Walken would be a good Kain, if he wasnt such a fragile man. Its hard to find a crazy looking elderly man in bodybuilder-shape which Kain is. Arnold lacks in the acting part and fails in the visuals, so I have no idea for whom could play him. Raziel is far easier... almost everyone could play him.

This series shows how badass vampires should be take lessons Twilight.

Hey everyone imagine Kain shows up in RWBY and he married Summer Rose turned her into a vampire and then they have Ruby Rose a born vampire and Kain shows up in that mission the one Summer went on and saves her and "killed" Salem and rescued Summer and brought her home and Ruby has awesome vampire powers and Ruby wants Weiss as her future wife and turns Weiss Blake Yang Pyrrha Ren Jaune and Nora into vampires and all 8 of them fighting the bad guys and wining all of the fights from Volume 3-8 and Ironwood becomes a vampire as well when Ruby saves his life.

I really hope that this game gets a reboot. It deserves one so bad. Maybe it didn't have the hugest fan base idk. But from all I've seen, a fan of this series is a huge fan of the series. It's superior story telling is only matched by few.

It used to be pretty much one of the top tier IPs of it's time, just like how CoD or Assassins Creed are top tier now. A lot of unbecoming things were done with the IP under Crystal Dynamics. Also there was a multiplayer tie-in game. It wasn't too bad, either, but had tedious crafting as a system and saw dwindling player numbers. Never got the support it deserved because people were angry it wasn't the Dead Sun Singleplplayer game.

Ah, damn. Sucks that it took me 18 years to find out there was a followup to Legacy of Kain. I would've snapped this up. And from what I'm seeing at just 12 minutes in, I would've loved this one even more than LoK. Really liking the writing.

Thanks for the compilation video of the story of Raziel and Kain. The very end of the series since November 2003.

Every year I listen/watch this in the background...good times, good memories back then.

I love the conversation between Ariel and Raziel, since she names him as the Unspoken, and warned Kain in Blood Omen I against the Unspoken. It’s neat to think she was warning Kain against Raziel.

I love the way Kain killed him and when he arose he had no idea Raziel was standing behind him. I believe the Oracle intentionally led everyone there.

@@LegendaryDarkKnight602 it's awesome when you kill him in Blood Omen 1, but in Defiance, waiting until almost the end of 2 games to murder him, makes it sweet. So sweet. Hey, do you know why no one could see the Elder Gos except Raziel? And then Mobius when the Purified reaver pierced him and when Kain is purified and obtains the purified Soul Reaver?

@@dudebro5527 I imagine only his agents ( soul devourers ) can see him. Raziel commented on the Vampires not knowing what they worshipped. I don't believe the Hylden ever saw him either. Overall it was Ariel's gift that purified the Reaver that allowed both Mobeus and Kain to see the Oracle.

I always come back to watch Legacy of Kain -videos every six months or so... Such great characters, voice-acting, world-building, dialogue and plot. You can't top this writing. This should make J.K. Rowling and G.R.R.Martin blush. Tolkien and Kentaro Miura would approve.

I having played through intricately every existing version of the Legacy of Kain less the newest abandoned revision, still speak forward volumes of praise for each beautifully manifested rendition and creation. The characters were as detailed and vastly defined as could have ever been imagined. People who love Legacy of Infinite Detail and Story, could also enjoy the aspect of The great Darth Vader Heading off against Kain in a match designed only by an unbiased god of War. Anyone Else Love to See these Two Monsters Battle It Out.

Time travel can either make or ruin a story. This game got a bit down the rabbit hole but the first two were clear master pieces

I've fallen asleep to Soul Reaver 2 or Defiance every night for like a year. And since I fall asleep pretty fast, the ads roll in their entirety. Thank you, and you're welcome 😁

I went back an watch the cut scenes of the other games and I finally know the final fate of Janos. After being possessed and taken by the Hylden he was imprisoned for 200 years until free by young Kain who he helped fight the Hylden and during the final fight he was thrown into the hell dimension with them and Kain basically wiped them away from the world.

@@deadlysefo Yeah! So because of all the time travel shenanigans it was Raziel's fault that Janos got imprisoned during Blood Omen 2 and Janos's final fate was being trapped with the Hylden at the end of Blood Omen 2!

@@deadlysefo The only one who truly had free will was Raziel and in the end Kain. Raziel changed fate twice though the second time with the help of Kain, and he had to choose to become the soul of the Reaver. Honestly it was brilliant writing.

Best ever. But the story is so deep and wide. Lets hope for a remake with new graphics but same voice actors (same sound files) and then maaaybe an ending aswell

One of my fav games. Loved this so much.

I loved these games as a kid. Now kids play games where all they do is the floss dance and stack blocks. Such a shame. We need new story driven games with great acting. Maybe it's time for a Legacy of Kain reboot.

In SR2 ending Kain saw the future where Janos is revived and possessed by Hylden warned Raziel wish they concluded this on the supposed sequel but it never made

The sad thing is, Vorador might very well have died again in Blood Omen 2, as well as Janos, they both served their purpose in the story. What if the events of Blood Omen 2 then also turns out to not change the future at all, that Soul Reaver 1 is destined to happen all over again. The Seer/Oracle in Blood Omen 2 could be Hylden in origin, or perhaps she is Umah from a timeline where Future Kain made sure she lived instead of suffering the fate he originally prescribed for her when his younger foolish self thought she was betraying him. Blood Omen 2 takes place 700 years before Raziel is resurrected, this might still happen, and the games will cyclically play out again. Defiance Kain might exist as a double to Blood Omen 2 Kain in the blood Omen 2 universe, and thus might also be who leaves bread crumbs for his younger self to follow to ensure the events of Soul Reaver 1 This is why I believe there cannot be another game after Defiance.

@@shavoidpatrick1602 Defiance takes place during the events of Avernous Cathedral, so it happens before Blood Omen 2's events, Blood Omen 2 is the prequel to Soul Reaver 1 and the continuation after Defiance. For a while people have said that Blood Omen 2 happens because of the events in Soul Reaver 2, which isn't wrong. But Defiance is still the direct sequel to Soul Reaver 2's story if that makes sense. The reason why Amy must have written Defiance as she did, was to create a paradoxical story that can loop forever if the franchise didn't continue. In Soul Reaver 2 the ending takes place on an Oroborous snake sigil type floor to again symbolize the paradoxical nature of the story... The story of these games link together in a very complex way, i'm almost certain I understand how it works though. In Defiance Raziel from the future exists in his wraith form, but his Sarafan inquisitor self is newly dead after Soul Reaver 2 some time after the birth of Kain and after the Death of Ariel... During Defiance, Kain from future travels through time from the beginning of his younger self from Blood Omen 1's original journey, and at some point the elder god helps him time travel to the age when Avernous Cathedral burns so future kain can find and stop Raziel from ressurecting Janos Audron. At that same time after Raziel kills turel, Mortanius leaves to confront Blood Omen 1 Kain, and Raziel purifies the reaver. Defiance ending events happen, and THEN! In theory, Blood Omen 2 starts, altered events from Soul Reaver 1 2 and Defiance cause Blood Omen 2's events to start in the gap between Blood Omen 1 ending and Soul Reaver Starting. The Hylden have taken Janos body to power the mass with his ancient blood. In Blood Omen 2 I feel it's very clear that you are not playing as Purified Future Kain, you are very much still Blood Omen 1 Kain, but history has been altered and Kain meets the Hylden Lord and their race and is struck down, the game plays out. If you really think about it, Kain's victory at the end of Blood Omen 2 s the only thing that kind of invalidates my idea... There is one problem. The pillars are never mentioned in Blood Omen 2, so the corruption is still spreading in Nosgoth, Future Kain must still be on his quest in Nosgoth at the same time as young Kain in Blood Omen 2 but we never see him, he could be occupied trying to restore the pillars of Nosgoth.. Sorry about the rant, I really like these games.

@@zion6680 it's OK bro you weren't ranting some of us die hard fans could talk this all day the way I understand it is like you pretty much blood omen soul reaver soul reaver 2 they cause blood omen 2 to happen like kain said it is the irritant who is expelled as raziel said by trying to alter time & his destiny kain almost didn't exist because hylden lord almost killed him making blood omen 2 happen right after blood omen but before soul reaver so blood 2 soul reaver soul 2 then defiance older kain & raziel that been through both soul reaver & kain that been through both blood omen go back in time before both soul reaver & blood 2 to be inbetween blood one & other games but in defiance it's their older self to be able to see theirselves because of time streaming chambers so their older selves been through both soul reavers & blood 2 but they are at a time after blood omen but before blood 2 & soul reavers but defiance is after events & it is the game that needs to be continued even though hylden possess yanos before. Human raziel is a vampire & before younger kain goes to blood omen 2 but older kain & raziel go back to time of sarafan&vorador the hylden brake through nosgoth in defiance from younger kains choice but older raziel ressurecting yanos in past vorador time but defiance is still after all those games but this happening before soul reaver one & blood 2 for their younger selves sorry bro for all this

Elder Kain is no villain. He tries to save everything, but his methods questionable. He is clearly a anti-hero. He did many good things for nosgoth, but he also conquered it. He paid for his sins and the whole series is about to change everything for the better of the world for everyone.

Nice little detail when the two Sarafan knights are talking about their latest crusade "May their souls now rest." Their dialogue heavily implies that they pity the vampires rather than hate them and feel what they're doing is a mercy. Obviously it's not representative of the entire order (as we saw with Sarafan Raziel and his comrades in SR2 and how cruel they were to vampires), but it's a nice touch that helps sell how morally grey a lot of the franchise and its characters are when you truly dig into their motives. Even characters like Mobius, for all the horrible things he does, truly believes that his actions will eventually make Nosgoth a better place. It's safe to assume the Elder God isn't telling him the truth about what will happen if Kain dies. He makes that much clear when he explains to the Elder God that the Hylden breaching dimensions was an inconvenient consequence of Kain's death. Kain is also similar in that regard, however a key part of his motivation for restoring balance to Nosgoth is that he wants something to rule over rather than the broken world that we see at the start of Soul Reaver. As the series goes on he does seem to develop a sort of genuine care and concern for the well-being of the Nosgoth, and even eventually sees Raziel as more than just an expendable pawn by the end of Defiance. It's a key component of Dark Fantasy that helps suspend disbelief and I'm glad they threw that bit of dialogue in.

It is sad to see Raziel fallen and now as one with the Soul Reaver. Technically, we get used to the protagonist. But now, that, too, has been changed. Not even the Wheel of Fate can let it stay as so.

2024, still holding onto that first bitter taste of illusion,…… Hope.

This would make one EPIC film... but I'd love to see this series reimagined as they intended it but changed due to limitations in technology. If it were made today (My Condolences to the artists lost over the years that made this work of art possible), it would be one GRAND piece of a masterpiece.

Raziel showing Mobious is honestly the best part. I loved how he showed him the face of his God before consuming his soul.

My absolute favorite. I've owned this game so many times through out the years and I can just sit and watch this all day or just listen to it like a Audiobook that's how well crafted the story is in this game 🤘
