Lee Haight - Roofer Vs. Insurance Adjuster: Large Loss Standoff

Ойын-сауық

Check out this free training - 10 guys we made Blue Collar Millionaires
www.tothemooncontractor.com
Every contractor I know hates dealing with unreasonable adjusters. There is a special place in my heart for the "power trip" asshole adjuster. For almost 20 years I have been fighting insurance companies for the good guys. Going after the biggest jobs I've learned something about insurance companies. The bigger the claim the more they lie, cheat and steal from regular people.
Last year we were contracted with by an HOA to complete Hurricane Sally restoration. Their roof was ripped off, windows were damaged, and almost 70 units were uninhabitable. We have been battling an unreasonable adjuster and insurance company almost a year. Recently we had a big showdown on the job site to discuss damages and repairs.
I decided to film the interaction for the homeowners and to document the criminal behavior by the insurance company. Insurance adjusters try to bully contractors into submission and thats exactly what they tried to do to us .Property owners need a contractor that's not scared to fight that's armed with the right team. I had my attorney review all the footage and had to remove some of the footage.
Inside this KZread you will get a chance to see how adjusters act when you fight fire with fire.
Sometimes the best way to get an adjuster to listen is to be nice and agreeable.
When they lie , cheat and steal you have to stand up for your clients right by doing whatever it takes. With Hurricanes brewing in the ocean now I am so pumped for the new season.
RRCA is looking for top performers who want to come work in the major leagues of roofing.
The best way to land how to land large loss deals is ride on our emergency response team.
Check out this brand new youtube for a chance to ride with me as I deal with an unfair and unreasonable adjuster.

He truly DOES only make "recommendations" but those recommendations carry much weight. I've been in the ins biz for 31 years. Many of those years working on the carrier side. Now I'm a Public Adjuster. He can get things done if he truly wants to get them done. And, knowing that is half the battle. I've heard, "I only make recommendations" so many times I could puke. It's a cop out, plain and simple. My bet is, after that tongue lashing he got in this video, things started to happen. Oh, how I would love to get a claim that was denied for no storm related opening with a gaping hole in the top like that one had.

I worked for Progressive for 7 years and recently quit after seeing endless examples of frivolous spending and ridiculous bonuses being paid out to executives. They advise their vehicle estimators to look for downgrades on vehicles (minor stains on head liners, possible leaks, yellow head lamps, etc) on total loss vehicles in order to lower the ACV on them and pay out less. Their priority is pandering over peoples pro-nouns and finding ways to lower customers payouts.

5 years ago I knew it was time for me to retire when I was in a meeting with a lot of top dogs. One executive said “we can train monkeys to do adjusting. ”. I retired after 20 plus years of being a IA. Back in the day you had full responsibility to find coverage and you had to have background in construction, nowadays they hire bar tenders, Walmart greeters, car sales man, nothing wrong with these skills but they have no knowledge of constructions mixed with “deny, delay and defend coverage”. no longer do you need an adjuster License to run claims because they are nothing more then a glorified photo taker for a guy inside a office denying coverage. Back in the day we stood toe to toe with contractors until we both came to the same conclusion on what was needed to make the policy holder while again.

I live in Oklahoma, so you already know where this is going. Two years ago we had an EF1 cut right by our house. It ripped up huge swaths of shingles and the underlayment, but structurally nothing was wrong. I called the insurance company no more than a half hour after the storm had passed. You know, trying to do the right and responsible thing. Nope. The insurance agency asked me right off the bat, "so was there a bunch of wind with the tornado?", to which I replied, Yes. They proceeded to tell me that 100% of all repairs was on me because they don't cover wind damage. It was a F*****G tornado! I got a roofer who deals with these lowlife pieces of sh!t and he went to town on them. We got to the point of taking them to court along with 5 other neighbors before the adjuster came out and claimed 'it was a paperwork mistake', and they fixed our roofs. I say fixed, not replaced. State Farm, Progressive, Geico, etc... are nothing but legal scams here in America. Adjusters lie from the time they arrive on site until they leave, and they get paid to do so. I've since learned how to repair my own roof and haven't looked back. These insurance adjusters belong in prison.

I don't don't know of an insurance policy that SF issues in Oklahoma that doesn't cover wind and/pr damage. Some insurance companies might not cover wind damage for homeowners who go to purchase for a house with an old roof until their roof is replaced. The structure should have been covered even if the roof was excluded. It sounds like a major screw up by the company. Especially so, to tell tornado victims that they have no coverage. Why don't you tell us who the actual company was? Also, don't by insurance from any company that doesn't have a local agent who will sit down with you a review in detail what their policy doesn't cover.

I'm an insurance agent and I will absolutely go to back for a client, if an adjuster is not acting right. I try to watch videos like this because I'm not out in the field during a claim and can only go off of my clients word and the adjuster. As many times as I've seen an unreasonable adjuster, I've seen twice as many unreasonable homeowners. I had a guy who switched his insurance to us in July of last year. His previous policy had ACV for roof coverage whereas ours was Full Replacement (look it up). He found hail damage on the roof. Our adjuster agreed there was hall damage but the last reported hail storm in the area was June. The client sent me documentation trying to prove there was a hail storm since he set up the policy with me. His own "proof" literally agreed with my adjuster that the last known hail storm in his area was indeed June. I explained this to him and he still couldn't accept the fact that the coverage would've applied to his previous policy with the ACV coverage

The problem is when you talk to them they always say it's our policy for this and that, there's always fees involved etc. Making rules as they go. The supreme Court has ruled policy's ordinance statues and rules are not laws or lawful. All these terms are contract terminology as all courts operate in Martine law. The USC code is also written in Martine law.

I was a insurance adjuster for 12 years and came from a construction background, I handled all sorts of inspections including large loss, I don’t know for sure if this adjuster did his job thoroughly or not but can guarantee that I did on all claims I worked, they way I viewed it is that it was not my money so I will recommend replacing when there is obvious damage but with that being said I have had several claims that I did everything in my power to resolve and should have been a no brainer but went 9-12 months without any communication with management, you are not allowed to call a manager you can only send a internal message which they refuse to respond and if you get pushy you will get in trouble by different management telling you that your claims will be taken away and sent to another assignment, you are paid by the claim so they would threaten to take food off your plate for not just sitting back and allowing them to drag their feet. Basically the adjusters are the punching bag for the big insurance companies making all the money, also you make less money per claim if you deny it rather than pay but upper management gets bonuses for a certain amount of denied claims so they pay the policy holder less money, the adjuster that is there is getting paid less money and in return give out bonuses for the higher ups, reason I quit and now working back with construction mainly storm damage so I can fight these crooked big companies that think they can abuse the little guy.

This sucks. I'm dealing with this right now after a Tornado and Hail damage. Adjuster marked hail damage all over the house, HVAC condenser, chimney, siding, fascias, screens, all metals on the roof, the exhaust vents along the peak of the roof. Then when it came to the roof itself and the shingles, he said he couldn't tell it was hail damage and said it could be normal wear. Lol Keep in mind our roof is only 8 years old. New for a roof. He said he has never seen a roof this new wear, but he couldn't 100% say it was from the hail and storm. After marking everything else as hail damage. Lol The contractor laughed his ass off and they are going back and forth with it right now. Have a 2nd adjuster coming soon. These adjusters probably get bonuses for keeping claims down. So he was basically like ya, you have lots of hail damage and I'm going to cover everything thats relatively cheap, but not the expensive part. Luckily I personally know my agent and he is involved on our side.

I’m floored by the level of organization and the all encompassing approach that you used to corner the engineer and get him to admit that he missed several deadlines that he set. I’m sure there’s a lesson that he learned and he probably won’t be trapping himself with his own words next time. Sandy was pretty bad in NYC and lots of people lost everything. Then the insurance companies were doing the same things like this example. The engineers said they didn’t see any damage when houses were clearly knocked off their foundations. Some companies just closed their shops and left. All those people who had to pay insurance for the mortgage company for all those decades and when they needed help the insurance companies just left them holding the bag. Thousands of people, billions of dollars in damages and most got little if any money. We are still paying for the damages from Sandy 12 years on, the subways are being renovated and the Federal government will pay for the new Tunnel for Metro North into Penn station. You are doing a better job of holding the insurance company inspectors feet to the fire than most of us could do. Please let us know the results!

The majority of adjusters today have no clue about construction or how to find coverage within the policy, instead they are taught over and over what is not covered and when they go out to inspect storm damage they can only focus on no coverage as they have not be taught how to find coverage. I’m started adjusting 20 years ago, we were taught how to find coverage, we were also builders, contractors, GC or subs when we were hired. Nowadays, they hire bar tenders, movie theater managers, car salesman, Walmart greeters, etc. they hire unqualified people now so that they don’t have to pay the adjusters as much. We used to make 200k on a slow year now they are lucky if they make 60k a year plus they have to pay for hotel, meals, traveling etc and tax. They may walk away with 20k when it’s all said and done.

This is why you go with an insurance company like USAA if you are able to. Ive had them for 38 years now and NEVER had a single issue. Car accident your car is in the shop within one or two days, issue with your home an adjuster is out to your house that day or the next. Videos like these are AWESOME to pressure these lousy companies to do whats right and owed! Great video

On our hail damaged roof, we had to go as far as getting a mediator to resolve it. Even then the roofer didn't get everything they should have, and insurance wanted additional photos of before approving any more money to be released. Problem was, the work was completed, duh. So they went back and forth arguing over pictures. WHAT A PAIN it all was.

Roofers don’t understand insurance policies or jobs that adjusters do. I’ve been a roofer and an adjuster, sometimes thru CAT events new adjusters just get thrown in the mix. I think that’s a little what’s happening here.

@@LeeHaightYT right. 9 f****** months was all i needed to hear. Anything else your making excuses for the thieves. 9 months tells you exactly what their intentions are. If someone owed u money and bs you for 9 months What the avg person gonna think? Exactly. These ppl comments show they know nothing about operating a business and ethical practices my friend.

First time home buyer and had to go through it with my insurance company because of rain/wind/hail damage. I have a 500 dollar deductible.... adjuster claims it's 495 in repairs. I had to fight tooth and nail for the insurance company to replace the roof. Actually told them on the call if they send that adjuster out again i'd fight him since he didn't even go onto the roof. Just took pictures from the ground.

Dam that’s why I really hate adjusters. My home was hit by a tornado 3 years ago and the insurance company would not fix hole in my side. I still have patches in my siding
