Ledlenser P7R Core Flashlight Review

Спорт

This is a field test of the Ledlenser P7R Core (1400LM Peak) flashlight. I want to thank Ledlenser for providing the flashlight and making the video possible. This light is regarded as an 'all arounder' or a light that is reasonably good for a number of use cases as opposed to one that is optimized for a single task.
I'll expand in the comment section, but I also think the light is good for a SAR kit - not necessarily a search light, but a light that part of a 'night kit' in your pack. This kit can help avoid your having to be rescued in the first place or increase your survivability in the event of an unplanned event.
The biggest problem I encounter in night wilderness Search and Rescue is people who were out during the day who had no plan to be out at night. But, Mr. Murphy and his law had something to say about that.
The P7R Core was extensively tested in a night hiking environment at the Arbor Hills Nature Preserve in Plano, Texas. All clips were shot one-take with an iPhone 14 Pro MAX.

So, I wanted to expand on the SAR or night kit alluded to in the summary. A good winter night kit only needs a few items. At least a flashlight that has a narrow beam (higher candela) option to use as a beacon and a low mode that provides good close-area illumination in lieu of a fire. A small headlamp and a flashlight is even better. Infinitely preferable to being stuck in the dark with just a cell phone light (Yes, I've had to deal with people in that condition in night SAR ops). One or two simple means to make fire. Always have a whistle. In the winter, add a thermal blanket. These items won't add much at all to your pack weight, but could be the difference in needing rescue in the first place or making it manageable condition until responders arrive. Keep the light and whistle readily available. Pockets or have the whistle mounted on the strap of your ruck. Hope that helps. I might do a complete video on this topic some day.

Thank you. There are lots of rabbits at that preserve. I've also recorded two copperheads, a coyote, multiple bobcats, frogs, deer, and huge spiders. The snakes/coyote were during a GoPro test, so I haven't published that footage.

Come to think of it, that's me as well ... although typically with my PowerTac Mt5-2 and a Cloud Defensive MCH-HC :)

I also have the flashlight and am very satisfied. Only one thing disappoints me. Is the difference in brightness between high mode and boost mode not too small? You hardly notice that the boost is switched on. It would have to be a whole 400LM more.

That's one of many reasons when I evaluate a light, I look mostly at the medium and high modes. Those are the ones that need to 'sell' me. Turbo/Boost/etc. may or may not be a significant difference and its usefulness varies a lot light to light. Thanks for your addition to the commentary as an owner of this product. I hope others gain from your experience.

Hi, I have mt14 and experience with ather ledlenser products. If you need to cover big areas outside (or inside, like a long halls or hangars) as a security, I don't recommend them. This lights are much better for close quarters. There is a problem with them, which you can kind of observe in this review, if you aware of it existence. When on flood (zoom out), everything what in the middle of a beam disappears in darkness, it's not a problem for small distances ( this is why I recommend inside use ) but outside it appears like a some kind of a dark spot. What's important, is that for human eyes it's much more of an issue than is visible on a video. Cameras smooth out this much better than your eyes would do. You can think, that's where zoom function comes in, but no. Zoom out light produce just a hot spot and not enough spill. I have this light for power outages, is ok inside, is great for ceiling bounce and is preety long lasting. Simple UI is also great because everyone is able to use it. Recharging - is ether magnetic (p7r) or micro USB (mt14), what I don't understand because usb c is standard, so LL has to have many micro USB ports 😅😅. The cost - well, is high enough that you can buy almost everything for this money. If you don't need a tail switch, Wuben C2 is awesome, has USB-c charging and USB-A for reverse charging, it's really nice at throwing and has great balance between flood and hot spot, much more functional and is easily reaching 300m. On a lower levels is also very good inside. What the most important you can buy 2 or 3 of them for the same amount of money. If you need tail switch, lights from fenix, from pd - r series. You just can not go wrong with them. And believe you me, you need that hot spot! How defined is up to you. If you will buy ledlenser you will be disappointed. They have great warranty, but so does fenix. The warranty is reason why I don't recommend nightcore or even an olight. Wit this two it's often hit and miss. What I wrote above is even worst with all the headlamps from LL. This is not an issue with top of the line headlamps but it is with every single one which has zoomable lens. I hope its answers you. Have a nice one.

One more thing. If you really want ledlenser, and you decide not to listen to me, at least don't buy signature series it's really not worth the price. I don't know where you live and what yours buying options are, but today on german amazon two standard p7r would be cheaper than one p7r signature. I still don't recommend them.
