LeBron or Curry more likely to win ring, Tatum the next face of NBA, Doc Rivers | FIRST THINGS FIRST

Спорт

The Los Angeles Lakers return from the All-Star break to face the Golden State Warriors in the Bay Area. Nick Wright, Chris Broussard and Kevin Wildes debate whether LeBron James or Steph Curry is more likely to win another ring. Meanwhile, Jayson Tatum says that being the face of the NBA is "mine to take." Watch as the crew discusses whether Tatum has a legitimate chance of being the next face of the league, then reacts to Doc Rivers asking the Milwaukee Bucks when hiring him: "I don’t understand why you are doing this."

Nick is a goof for this. Addressing something lacking in basketball discourse on a show that has a huge cultural influence on how we talk about basketball is EXACTLY how you change the narrative and raise the bar on causal basketball talk. You don’t have to be a smart a** and say x and o and defend the pick n roll. Let’s discuss ACTUAL basketball schemes and plays styles and matchups rather than dumb narrative based topics. As a basketball fan I want the major shows to become more observant to the actual game because we got way too many casual fans and that’s why you get a Dame Lillard as an all start starter because nobody knows real ball and left Brunson out.

Nah buddy. If you think the skip's and stephen a's are in control than you're simply wrong. The masses make them, not the other way around. If you wanna see actual plays and schemes then go where they do that at. I'm grateful for legs, and jj, but its weird for me to expect everyone to just do what i like. Basketball is a sport, its entertainment, and its not the end of the world that most people are into on a surface level. This literally goes for everything in life.

It goes both ways, you can be entertaining and educational. Keep all the antics but also talk scheme. JJ is showing you just how it’s done and it’s clearly getting millions of views. My issue isn’t what I want to see, I alresdy tune into the places that do that. My issue is the dumb mind numbing surface level stuff ruins the game and I gave you an example how with dame and Brunson. And there’s so many more examples.

The conversation for the face of the league started really well, and took a nose dive when Nick brought out the tiers. It's about being iconic, not the best. There's no tier for that, you have to have IT. It's more like a boxing title, once you get it, someone has to take it from you. Wemby is the only candidate right now, the great players right now are too close to eachother to get ahead and take that title, none of them trully feel iconic or era defining.

Nick's life depends on stuffing Luka's sausage inside his mouth, because all he does is come up with new and contrived reasons to overhype a dude who only jacks up threes and plays no defense. I didn’t realize this till now but Giannis don’t get brought up enough in the potential successors to Bron and Steph as the head huncho convos. Giannis used to get pushed like crazy his first two mvp seasons but that stopped. Despite that push stopping, he’s been: - top 3-5 in jersey sales since the 18/19 season - top 2-4 in all star voting since 18/19 (lead it this year) - confirmed by Nike in multiple shareholders’ earnings reports to not only have their most successful silhouette launch, he’s also onna their biggest money makers in the basketball division (Nike also views him as onna their key drivers for growth in the future) - has a Disney+ movie and a new Amazon Prime movie that just came out - was top 5 in digital viewers last year across all the nba’s platforms last year (9th this year tho from the most recent available numbers) - was tied with KD for 3rd in endorsement earnings at 45M (Steph was 52M and Bron was 75M)

Tho he is 29 so he’d prolly be classified more as onna the current faces (but below Bron and Steph) he won’t have time to succeed Bron and Steph unless he has Lebron type longevity. The nba shouldn’t have stopped pushing Giannis cuz they wouldn’t be struggling to find the next guy if they didn’t stop. I will say tho, if Giannis left the Bucks like the media was pushing for they would’ve sent him to the stars and back

They actually made crummy arguments; Wilde's claim that the face of the league must bring something different… makes no sense; it implies that fans are comparing players from the past to the current generation, just to decide if they should be the face of the league. Now, I don't know anyone who was looking up players from the 60s and 70s to figure out if Jordan was doing something different enough to deserve their fandom; nobody does; Wildes usually has solid takes, but this is just the result of them not having a solid idea of what it means to be the face of the league.

Nick is plain and simple a hater of anything that has to do with Boston; always has been, even if he has to deny it. I bet Nick saw Wildes bring up jersey sales the last time they had the FotL argument and barred Wildes from bringing it again, because it wrecks his arguments. Basically had to be arm twisted into admitting Jayson was a superstar, but still keeps moving the goalposts to put him below lesser player who have achieved way less and whose game is eons behind Tatum's.

And they just need Wiggins and/or Klay to play their 2022 game to win it all. Remote but not impossible. Lakers? The ONLY reason for them to have any chance is because the NBA WANT them to be champs and if they're close, will pave the way for them, UNFAIRLY.
