I believe you could not have smiled bigger with a brand new lathe. Guys like us rather fix up the oldies. It's a connection to the past that is going by the wayside. I could see the happiness you got from turning the first chips. It was real! Can't wait to see the big monarch doing the same. Happy chips to ya! Brad
I definitely saw an expression of pure joy come over you, like a kid with a new bicycle, when your lathe first started up. You have all the right in the world to be proud of a job well done!
The proud father of a (Le) Blond. Great!
Very pleased to see that the LeBlond is running. You must be gratified to finally see the fruit of your efforts to restore this old lathe. Sincere congrats !
Who in the world disliked this video? Super great to see it up and running after all this time! Congratulations Keith

lol there is always at least one who really doesn't have any clue as to what is going on so instead of asking questions on what they don't understand the simply dislike it
Fantastic to see the Le Blond turning once you get her bed in and running true she will give you another 40 years running.
Saturday Feb 6th we brought home a 1942 LeBlond Regal 17 with lot of nice tooling. Now we have to part with our nice 1936 SB 9c and all it tooling to make space in our small shop. Had been looking a long time for a nice 17, and now 4th owner. Was purchased 2/28/42 by the Manitowoc ShipBuilding Company for their Submarine Division. Nice piece of history, and we proud to have it now in our shop. Has VFD conversion, which is a plus since we dont have 3ph near us. Bear
Congratulations! It's nice to feel the satisfaction when a small job is completed. Its even better when a big job is completed. Thanks for sharing. You must feel like a new proud papa.
first chips !!!! yeah !!!! I cracked a new beer , and made a toast to your first chips !!!!! nice shop !!!!!! I know a lot of people are happy for you !!!!! :) :) :)
Try using a shop rag for installing belts, wrap around the belt and pull. That way no worries about your finger getting pinched.
Fantastic job Keith I am 69 and do not own a lathe but I have been watching your Chanel for many years now As it is alway very interesting i am into woodwork and gardening , u tube is a great way to keep you mind Active and healthy by watching and always striving to learn something new from guys like you thanks again For sharing your vast amount of knowledge Regards from down under
when you started putting that old dusty, dirty chuck on that lathe I started booking a ticket to come down and clean it up for you☺ thankfully I kept watching and you said you would take care of it. You did a great job on the lathe Keith, great addition to your beautiful shop.
Hi Keith, Nice to see her dressed up and making chips. Thanks for sharing.
I gotta tell you, I thoroughly enjoyed this entire series, fascinating stuff to watch. Hats off to you, Keith for a job well done!
Very nice restoration. When your work shop echos, you know you have done good.
Excellent video and wonderful to see the Old Iron Girl come back to her Glory!
Way to go Keith! I enjoy your videos immensely, and your shop is an incredible work space. I am sure that it will give you many years of enjoyment! On a different note, my 8 year old granddaughter came downstairs last month and was wondering what I was watching. She quickly became enthralled with your videos, and kept asking to watch another and another. She loved the casting videos, but also enjoyed the metal work ones. She is probably the only 8 year old that knows the difference between a lathe and a horizontal mill!! She has some questions for you: 1) why do you have so many lathes? 2) why don't you enjoy welding? Thanks so much for your response (in advance), if you can find the time!
Great job Keith. You explain it so that even us Luddites can understand it. AndTHAT is a great skill to have. Thanks for posting this.
You looked oh so happy Kieth when you engaged forward.. I bet I'm not the only viewer that smiled widely...
Well-deserved smile when it all worked there, Keith
She's a real beauty! You did a first rate restoration job ....
The great day has finally arrived! I am sure you will have many happy hours working in your new shop. I look forward to many more video's from now on. Thanks for them all!
nice first chips. it's existing to see this old lathe looking so good and now making chips.
Nice to see the LeBlond up and running Keith. Excellent restoration!
I don`t know much about those big machines but I do know you are a master & I love watching you work
The chuck engaging lever moved on it's own at 28:47. There's a ghost who is as happy as you. Nice lathe.

ToyoHigh01 - Good try, but see explanation at 18:27. There are 2 handles for the engaging lever, and at the end, Kieth is moving the 2nd lever.

I forgot about the other lever. hehehe.
CONGRATULATIONS KIETH. LET THOSE CHIPS FLY
THANK YOU...for sharing. CHIPS ARE A FLYING!!! Nice finished project.
She looks like a good machine Keith. Thanks for bringing her back.
Keith, Congratulations of your first chips with the LeBlond. I also wanted to say that was some very fancy hand work at just past the 5-minute mark when you were taking the cap screws out of the gear box top. I would love to get those moves down. Thanks for all you do. Gary 73-Year-Old Home Shop Machinist in North West Arkansas
Oh boy, you make such a fantastic job of these restorations on the machines. I rekon that one is good for another 60 years of service...
hell yeah man. the day you and all of us were waiting for. congrats man. you should be very proud. you did a great job on that ole girl.
Exciting times to see the first cuts off a machine that you have brought back to life. Excellent video series. Looking forward to the next one and a bit sad that this series is almost concluded.
excellent to see the LeBlonde making some chips .you have done an excellent job on that lathe Keith .
Yes! You did it! I love this project, and it's been fun hanging with you as you have been progressing! Nice work, Keith!!
Great start, Keith. You could probably buy a new toolpost of the right size by auctioning off a pint of the first chips out of this old beauty. I was glad to see you fix the motor bearings while you were in the neighborhood, too.
Glad to see the old girl back in action. I doubt you'll have much trouble adjusting out all the kinks. Want to see some thread cutting too. Great work, Keith.
Congratulations your LeBlond looks and sounds great! We saw the smile when those chips flew. Thanks for sharing.
Gald to see the first chips off the LeBlond even if they are a little sideways and we get to see you make everything line up straight with the world. Very cood Keith.
Awesome video. Great to see the old girl up and running!
Congrats Keith, watched all the vids leading up to this. Very happy you got her running. She sounds ready to work!
Keith - Another very good restoration project. Enjoyed all of them! The new workshop is getting lots of use. The scrapping class was interesting to watch. The videos gave us a look at the shop.
Chips at last! We have all been waiting, good job.
Congratulations on completing your lathe restoration. Looking forward to seeing your projects using this lathe.
Congrats Keith! It was fun watching how giddy you were getting her all hooked up :)
Good on you Keith! I'm glad for you. Looking forward to the first project, Rollie
You've done a fantastic job on that Le Blond lathe Keith. Beard is coming along nice :) Great to see some chips fly!

Great series and congrats on the 1st chips Keith....well done!
How exciting Keith , THE FIRST CHIPS .. Awesome !! great share man , Thumbs up .. Lots of hard work to get here
A triumph! Thanks for documenting such an interesting project!
Congratulations Keith! I can't wait to see the adjustments to help set up a little South Bend I just got. Thanks!
Great job indeed. It's been fun to watch, and I'm sure it's been a challenge for you. The end result is what counts, and looks like a keeper to me. Thanks for sharing all your hard work with us.
congratulations, it's a lathe! Great to see the ol girl running
Great to see it up and running! I would suggest a very sharp HSS cutter and a 1/3Diameter to length for when you do your alignment tests so you have a setup with enough rigidity and low enough cutting forces to produce good reliable results.

Most important to just make very light cuts when doing your test cuts - that will take nearly all of the deflection out. I have it down to 0.0005" taper over 8" now!

That is excellent for a lathe of its age! If the piece is of the proper size I would suggest turning the outer end of it the same size as the ram of the tailstock and then using it as a reference to indicate from to determine how much if any your tailstock needs to come up and also if it is centered.
Congrats on making some chips Keith. Looking forward to the adjustment show. regards from the UK
Nicely done and a real mile stone after all that work Keith.
A great restoration Keith. Love the thought of that gallon of oil splashing about inside when you cut those first chips! Best wishes.
First chips in the new shop... congrats Keith!
You're making chips! Congratulations, you should be rightfully, very proud. I enjoy all your videos and always look for your next installments.
Glad to see it making chips Keith. It has been a long road and interesting to watch
Congratulations the infant it's finally born, I could not wait to see the LeBlond operational at almost 100% restoration was amazing great job and I can not wait to see what the lathe can be able to do. Goood job.

Still working on tuning her up and learning the tricks on how to run her. So far, so good!
Great work and the how & why tips are quick and factual. You have a great flow in your videos of what is needed to be talked about and a picture is worth a thousand words. Thanks for sharing I'm really looking forward to the adjustments video to help get my lathe /mill working better.
Congrats. I have really been enjoying this series. Nice machine!
Keith, Congratulations! You must feel like a kid with a new toy! Thanks for your interesting videos on the rebuild on the LeBlond lathe. After you get it cutting correctly, I assume you will start rebuilding the Monarch. Thanks again for the video! Have a good one and make those chips! Dave
Great Job Keith! I've been watching this whole series with intensity since the beginning. I literally stood up and clapped when the first chips were cut. Godspeed Keith!
I watched you wire that drum switch and thought: "Good job, now it just needs some electrical grease." And then you did it! Kudos for an excellent job!
Congrats. Look forward to the next video on compensating for the taper.
Nice to see the old girl back in action.
Well i followed the whole series, and for the beginning, i knew almost nothing about lathes and trough this series i've learnt so much new english vocabulary and saw how things worked, so thanks alot for that!
Great video series Keith! When ever you start a new or rebuilt machine, pour oil over all the gears. Insures initial lubrication.
Yep, I chuckled when you said, it's time to make some chips. Congrats on the rebuild Keith.
Finally some chips Awesome... This was a great series thanks for the ride i know i learnt a thing or two along the way.
Congrats for this significant milestone ! Well Done !
My favorite project by far. It's a wonderful feeling putting time and effort into something like this. Thanks for sharing!
yes yes yes and thanks! i bought a new to me atlas about years ago and with excitement i started cleaning rewiring and getting functional a neat old lathe,, made first chips and found it and myself couldn't make good cuts for anything,,,, so looking forward to getting to watch your setup video,, it's already in my que and ready! thanks for every video you make,, awesome stuff there
Nice lathe! Use to run a 16" like that years ago which was suprlus from the Navy.... Very stout and powerful!
Congrats on your first chips Keith! Very interested on how to take out the taper on a lathe. Keep up the good work. Fred Ontario, NY

I worked on the taper the other day. I have it down to 0.0005" over about 8" or so. I can live with that!
I love that grin, my friend. Congrats on making chips.
I have enjoyed watching this series, at times I thought it would never get back together but you did it. I hate being "one of those guys" but using a flexible conduit right angle connector as a cord strain relief is an appropriate application. Take a look at the Hubbell or Thomas and Betts line of strain reliefs. They do a great job of holding the cord without cutting into the insulation of the cord. Again, I hate being the know it all but some things just bug a person. Oh and that dielectric grease is available in tiny little tubes at your favorite Ace Hardware (I used to work at one after my first retirement).
Excellent series on the resto Keith. I was particularly interested since I've got the same model lathe. It needs the same work you did on yours - clean and paint. Congrats on the first chips. I'm looking forward to the upcoming alignment. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.
Congratulations, Keith! I know you are proud and satisfied with a job well done. Looking forward to the additional setup videos.
Great to see the chips fly! Good one. Thanks for bringing us along, Keith.
Hi Keith! very nice restoration.. first chips is always cool😃 Good work👍
Ideally you should use non detergent 30 w oil. Nice to see that machine come together and make some chips. I bet your excited to put it to use. Thx for sharing.
A major milestone, awesome sir!
Happy to see those chips.
it good to see it making some chips it has been a good set of videos to get to here fantastic stuff Keith not much runout for the first cut after the setup keep the good videos coming
I'm really excited about the future video on leveling .

IT'S ALIVE!! Congrats on your first chips. Looking forward to seeing you dial it in.
Thanks Mr. Keith for another great video!
Awsome job, I've been looking forward to seeing her run. Looking forward to seeing the setup video as well. 👍
NICE JOB. KEITH👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
happy for you getting to this point
Thank you and congratulations! This is a very fascinating project!
Good Job Keith. Lathe looks great.
Great job Keith!! I would have mounted the power switch with the bracket in reverse to put it towards the back. Gives more room on top of the gear box... :)
Nice job, nice machine! I think it would look better with the drum switch flat on the casting (remove the L shaped bracket, mount it flush to the cast with the parallel metal strips, with the handle facing the front of the machine instead of up).
Another great vid Keith....thanks.
Wonderful video Keith. Thank you
