Likewise! I was an art teacher with MOE too, I also left because I got really depressed from the routine & culture. I was going through personal issues & the job was really making it worse. It was miserable. I stayed for 5 years. It’s true, it’s the same even if it’s another school, they are all the same, I’ve been to 3 different schools. They don’t care & lack empathy. They speak of empathy & close family-like bonds but they are trash to the other staff unless you’re a teacher, they treat the cleaners and other staff badly. The parents also make it worse, they don’t treat you well & will make your job harder for you especially if they know you’re a young teacher. I also got lectured on my dressing many times, which is so ironic considering how the principal & other higher ranking teachers skirts were all shorter than mine lol Don’t go into teaching if you like teaching. 20% teaching, everything else overwhelms. It consumes your whole life and you lose your sense of self. The turnover rate is really high. I completed my bond, but I have many classmates and colleagues who really can’t stand it & ended up breaking their bond and have to pay 100k etc for liquidated damages. But I doubt she can go back to teach tho, especially not now with all this content out about you, and saying all that about MOE etc. Probably in private sector yeah.

That’s because you are weak. Name me one person or worker who is not operating in a tough environment. In fact everyone does. You go talk to the hawker , the person will tell you a set of difficulties. You go ask a nurse, they also tell you a different sets of problems. Consuming your whole life in teaching ? You haven’t know the real and truest definition of ‘consuming your whole life’.you are just plain weak.

SG is a nation that is just obsessed with work, it isn't just teachers who are this way, nearly everyone I know is like that. It's kinda sad actually...when your identity kind of revolves around your job😢

Am a student of Ms Kang, she was one of the nicest teacher who actually made me look forward to going to CCAs and to get better in my studies. Its sad to see what she have been through and what the work culture did to her, as her student i just hope that she is feeling much better now for doing what she enjoy and being able to dress up in her own unique style! Definitely one of the teachers who shaped who i am today

So sorry to hear the story. How can schools have such a terrible culture when it is supposed to the nicest place where the kids grow up!

What's with the audio of this video? It's way softer than the other videos, and if not for the subtitles I wouldn't be watching it...

Some subjects are valued higher than some. Subjects like POA, FCE, D&T and art are usually tend to be seen as not important by both kids and the school. Sadly, art in some schools are seen as a 3rd class subject unless the school has Art Elective or Music Elective Programme (Higher Art and Higher Music), which is normally offered in the better schools. Teachers' mental health? some schools totally don't care about it. when the kids complain about mental health, the kids get support but when the staff complain? Usually the teachers get brushed aside. So fking harsh on your staff for what and treat the students like strawberries?!

Kids mental health? Yeah only until they hit 21, once they become working adult age they are expected to give up everything for their jobs. Mental health is an afterthought in SG, our society is either you contribute to economy or you're f**cked!
