Leaving Kentucky - VanLife - Living in a Van 12/2020

Leaving our camp at Alum Ford in Whitley City, Kentucky. We head towards Oneida, Tennessee to spend some time in Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area. We hike to an old farmstead and cook up some soup on the camp stove.
*My name is Brian. I started living full time in a self built camper van in 2014 in my hometown of San Diego, CA. I hit the road full-time in 2015 to pursue seasonal work and travel around the U.S. I find free camping on public land and enjoy photography, hiking, biking, and kayaking in nature. Join me on my adventures.
Thanks for watching!

To quiet the fuel pump clicking, insulate the lines on either side of it for one foot or so. Any sort of foam wrap will help. The sound mostly comes out of the pump output.

We live in Southern Illinois so we get brutally hot and humid summers and mostly mild winters. Yesterday December 11 2020 it was 67 degrees! We absolutely love fall and winter here. It can get very cold but its rare and usually only lasts a few days. I'll take it over 100 degrees anytime!

I would never, ever live in.-40. The biggest selling point to me, about nomadic life, would be to chase weather. Az/Florida/Coastal Texas in the winter, Oregon/Idaho/Montana in the summer, wandering around in the Spring and Fall. If its 90 outside the van its miserable inside. I'd prefer cool to chilly nights, so a person could SLEEP! I'm static right now, but camped a lot in my younger days. A mummy bag and 25 degrees is better than an air mattress and 80 degrees all day long.

Tip from a retired cook, have a carton of chicken or beef bone broth in your pantry. It is good for you and the flavor is bold and real. It will add a whole new dimension to a quick soup. Reseal and refrigerate what you don't need. I think you're an east coaster at heart. Love your decision stay east of the Mississippi this year.

What I do is move around and follow the temps alot of times. I was in denver until it started getting into the teens and now I'm in central Florida where its been in the high 40s or 50s every night. 👌 Its crazy because right before Thanksgiving I was in a foot of snow on a mountain in the rockies and now I'm in the sun in Florida getting bit by mosquitos lol

But im older and disabled have had 5 back surgeries and a knee surgery. And when it gets cold now i pay for it. I have gotten arthritis since surgeries. So now days i head for Arizona to stay warm. You should really check out Arkansas nation forrest. Being your that close. If you get down that way check out Ozark Nat Forrest and down from there you have Quachita Nat Forrest. Both have beautiful forrest mountains and a butt load of free dispersed camping. It really is an over look area for some great camping. ✌
