Leaving California Behind | Moving Across The Country to Tennessee || Why We Left California

California has worn out it's welcome and after 37 years, it's time to let go. There is a new love, a new fire burning, and we must see where it takes us. California will always have a piece of our hearts, but we only get one shot at this game and you have to level up at every chance possible. Huge shout out to our realtor Ryan Smith for making this process as easy as could be.

Lol! Nope, you left that mindset in Cali. I just discovered your channel and am loving your journey! I especially liked your Vlog Day 143. I commend you & your family on taking that leap last year. We live in SoCal and will move out of this state in about 5 years when we retire. We want to make sure it's a red state so we can afford retirement. You guys moved at the right time because with the COVID lockdowns, the heat, the massive fires/hazardous air quality and the awful state management, California is more insufferable than ever! God bless you & your family.

@Frank L That's why you don't retire in LA lol. You make your money and retire elsewhere. My wife worked in Nashville as the purchaser and project manager for a high end custom home builder and a large portion of her clients were from LA coming to build million + dollar homes. Her parents just sold their home in LA and retired to the mountains of Scottsdale AZ. Just as a better breakdown example in Nashville we worked our asses off and made less then 100k combined. Cost of living for our lifestyle took about 70k-80k in Nashville. In LA the same life style takes about 20k more per year...… but combined we make 250+k a year. That's so far into the green we literally have an entire average married couple's income as savings per year. Not to mention work less and less stressed. It's actually funny, the majority of LA transplants we met in Nashville wished they never left Cali.

Just because you believe something, does not make it RIGHT NOR MUTUALLY BENEFICIAL FOR YOUR NEIGHBOR, YOUR COMMUNITY, YOUR FAMILY!! When were wrong, were wrong, we ALL make mistakes.... What's the difference between me and you jjgreek is I give a shit about my fellow people and all of mankind, in that Our COUNTRY IS FOR ALL OF US TO LIVE FREELY AND TO HAVE OPPORTUNITIES TO MAKE A LIFE AND SUCCEED. not just the continuation of wealth confined to the richest!!! Fled the Left Coast in 2005 and settled in Texas. Very happy with the move, don't plan to leave this state ever. I visit the Bay Area every year to see family but there's very little joy in doing so. The people who've populated the state have turned it into such an ugly place. Can't "go back home" actually, it's changed so dramatically that I hardly recognize it anymore.

Tennessee is awesome. Our longtime family friends (since early 1960s) moved to Tennessee (Knoxville) in the late 1980s. Anyway, they love it there. And it's a state that has more liberty, better politics, more conservative American values, and much lower cost of living. That's the main reason they left California (that and to be with children and grandchildren, which was probably the actual main reason :)

I hear you Bro, I subscribed to your channel just to see you move, because I'm right behind you. I too have seen California completely go down hill on fire with no brakes on and after 50 years of living in California, minus my Military time, it's time to go now. I will truly miss the way California use to be and the weather of course and also the beach. I was born and raised in Ventura County right on the beach and I use to surf, scuba dive, spear fish, sail, everything ocean basically. I have seen our beaches and the water quality just go down the shitter, literally? not to mention the city my family and I live in has completely 100% went down the toilet in a big way, from the trash to the people and I can't see it getting any better anytime soon as long as we have the same political party running California and I believe even if another political party were to take back California, it's just too late to pull California out of it's nose dive. It's a shame it has to be this way and it makes me angry and sad at the same time. Many factors have made me come to my desition to leave California, the constant tax increases on everything, California's immigration policy, increasing crime, housing prices, the people in general just not caring about one another, the laws, traffic, the schools have declined 10 fold and the list unfortunately goes on and I could find at least 5 or even 10 more things and that's fricking sad. So it's time, I'm listing my house right after Christmas, one last Christmas here in California then we are out. Thank you for this video Bro. I wish you and your family the best in your move to greener pastures, you have made a very wise decision for you and your family. California unfortunately is going to be losing lots of great people. Take care. Hawk out!!

This guy is in for a real shock after he gets settled in Tennessee. I moved to east Tennessee (rural) 5 years ago, bought 28.5 acres and built two homes. Where I live is crazy evangelical conservative, the kind a California conservative will find offputting. People are nicer, but that is not because of their political associations, it's due to the reduced stress of a lower population density. Move to any hippy rural farming community and the people are just as friendly. "No trash along the road"? I cleaned a 600 ft portion of my rural highway road frontage earlier this year and filled 2 trash bags and a wheel barrel full of bottles and cups discarded by locals driving to work. That was only 600 ft on one side of the road. 20 years in SoCal, not one burglary, 3 years ago local "good ol boys" stole $1500 worth of tools from my barn. Look, I'm a registered independent, centrist, so I can get alone with just about anyone, but we are a nation of "individuals" if you are not open to hearing opposing views, you are a hive minded person, a sheep, not some kind of patriot. Patriots oppose unjust laws/policies, and governments that don't represent the best interests of the people. Sorry, that last bit was a rant. Final point, I love Tennessee, and am glad I moved there, the way to change anywhere into "California like" is to over populate it, so stay in California, Tennessee dosen't want you. JK 🙂

Thanks for this video. For others watching, Tennessee cities have all the same urban issues as CA. Memphis is a ghetto dump. Nashville is full of Sudanese refugees. You will see trash in rural areas where trash pick up is private and people don't want to haul an old mattress or refrigerator to the dumps. We saw lots of homes where residents used the woods as their dumping ground. Many rural areas are full of generational poverty because there is no work. Just families living off the gov't. ( I have family there and we almost moved there at one point) TN has gorgeous areas though. And I hope you guys like it. It really all depends on where you go in the state. But yes it is way cheaper than CA aside from a few Nashville suburbs. It's very family oriented. You will have tornadoes occasionally though and bad summer storms. Something you don't have in CA. I'm always happy for a person who moves out of the state they grew up in. It's good for the soul to see other things. Hopefully you are loving life where you are!

Those saying “leave your democratic and liberal views at California “ don’t understand that those leaving don’t agree with Californian views. Those who voted Democrat will stay because they live in a small bubble. As a Mexican-American , conservative and proud republican I am tired of: •10.25% sales tax •$1.4 million for a basic small 3 bedroom house •High income tax •$4 a gallon for gas • $2,000 rent for a studio apartment Yes, I was born in California but I don’t agree with its political views not one bit. You've made the right decision for your family!! My husband & I moved from Lancaster, CA to Lexington, TN (halfway between Memphis & Nashville off the I-40) almost 6 years ago, & we couldn't be happier!! Unlike you, we're retired & our move was driven by a need to get my mother-in-law out of Palmdale & back to Lexington, where she was born & raised. We got tired of gangbangers, Section 8 & welfare cheats, drive-by shootings, a cost of living that was going nowhere but up, & ridiculous laws regulating our personal lives. It costs us only $80.00 to register our class A motorhome in TN, vs. $500.00+ in CA, our gas, electric & water bills are half what we paid in CA, & our property taxes are dirt cheap. We're not beholden to Waste Management for trash pick-up because we live outside the city limits, & we take our trash to the dump whenever we need to, at no cost to us. The people are friendlier, it's a lot quieter, & we're happy to be out of CA. My husband loves to hike & fish in the eastern Sierra & we've been back there a few times. However, we're done with living there & are hopeful that our son can get out of there.

I think it’s the change of attitudes and somewhat of the youth being lost. I’m 24 and the last neighbor my parents would talk to recently passed from cancer. That is the last neighbor they had who they would constantly see and chat with. A lot of younger people (25+) who moved into our neighborhood don’t really chat with anyone. It’s just a stark difference. I remember another neighbor (he was elderly) who would always tell me hi as a child and ask me to say hello to my father since they would chat often and shared the same cultural background. Times have changed so much and it’s kinda sad how it’s become.

No offense, but California has one of the absolute worst reputations known throughout the nation. That reputation is well-deserved for how all the liberalism has ruined that state. There are a lot of cities and states that have been inundated by people moving there from California. (I don't blame anyone for wanting to leave there) I don't think most people care where you're from, but when a Red area starts tilting purple or worse, the natives get really restless and all the others moving there from California are looked at with disdain. So I'm sure you can understand why people get really leery when they see or hear someone moving in from California.

@@jjgreek1 oh wow, I I was trying to soften things for you, but you are in fact delusional. California has a reputation of a cesspool of liberalism! There is nothing remotely good about that. There may be things beautiful about the state, but people are enamored with the illusion of what California used to be, many years ago. Why are so many California companies relocating out of California? And why are masses of people wanting to escape the liberal stronghold there? It is a major mess that will probably never be corrected. You're not fooling anybody.
