This was really wonderful. And your next videos could you give more explanation as to the colors you were using for mixing? That’s always the hardest part and what makes the painting so believable. Thank you for these videos. I really enjoyed them.

Beautiful. As far as looking more real, I think it's because you're able to quickly capture the envelope of light by painting larger masses.

i've just started trying oil painting, before i've done strictly sketching and drawling, and i was having a hard time not adding so many details like i do when sketching. Great tip using a challenging brush, thank you!!

Great painting. I can appreciate this lose no-detail style and still love Wyeth and his blades of grass (which are actually undulating textures). Color and value come first in any style.

I agree 100% that for me the scene is more real when it’s suggested rather than completely detailed out. I get to participate in the completion of the story. I feel invited inside. My feelings and opinions are combined with the artists creation. I feel the same way with my own work. Suggested art keeps me inspired and excited when I’ve got it right. I can feel it vibrating and calling to me. Beautiful painting Michael.

"That's kind of an uncomfortable process...it's REALLY difficult." I once held a meeting with an art professor and shared that I was really uncomfortable. She replied that it is EXACTLY where I need to be...uncomfortable. At the time, I didn't really understand what she meant. Now, I remind myself to consistently push myself until I feel uncomfortable. Yes, it's REALLY difficult, but I also find the end results are so much better than SAFE. I get a lot out of your videos. Thank you!

This is absolutely fantastic. I’m going to give this a try. This is going to be extremely uncomfortable for me but I’m going tp push forward and be reminded of this and the last painting you did. What I find I keep doing is second guessing my work. I go in to improve my painting and find myself frustrated because now I have a mess to deal with. I always fix it but it was good just left alone. This is so refreshing. I want sophistication in my art. Not something that looks childish. This is lovely and just what I needed. Thanks! Kim

Michael - I like this painting, it’s been a few years but I remember a photo from the house, looking out the bridge toward an old lighthouse, there was a young lady with her fathers blue eyes, several great area paintings you done at this location are favorites of mine, always felt like they all should be one set, but there is a number I wanted to be sets

Michael, just wanted to add to the compliments on this piece. Really loved it. The scene has such solitude and calm, and the light and shadow relationships are beautiful. You have your own voice, definitely. But especially in your New England scenes, I always see a whisper of the great Edward Hopper - not derivative at all, but rather quite inspired. - John from South Florida

Thanks John! I really appreciate the kind words. I grew up going to South Wellfleet on Cape Cod as a kid. It was a very special place for me. My first paintings were of that area. I later learned that Hopper had a studio/summer home in Truro, only minutes from the cottages we stayed in. 😊

love your 12x12"..But I'm confused... what's your center of interest?..I would have thought the house but the bridge seems to be..the bridge has just enough detail... I would add more detail at the front porch.. the strong white vertical columns..and maybe that lighter path moving diagonally to connect the 2 structures....the two subjects seem disconnected somehow.?!
