Your cityscapes remind me of paintings by the late California artist Ken Auster who I loved his work. Keep it up, your work inspires me.
Nailed it!
Beautiful
I likes the streetlights in the old painting (which you didn't mention in your comparison).
Love your work. This was so fun seeing your new work next to your older work. For me, I liked the buildings in your original painting much better. I liked the straighter lines. But I liked the color of the buildings in the newer one. Your cars are awesome in your latest work. How fun. Really have liked all of your cityscapes. Love it when you do the Golden Gate Bridge.
I like the 'Cafe paintings too ; )
this is amazing 😍
I did a painting of a street in Brighton, Sussex, UK similar to yours in that the road ran down to the sea. It was inspired by your demo but I have to say it was one of the hardest paintings I’ve ever done!
I haven’t watched this video yet but I had an idea I want to float by you and your subscribers: merch. How about t shirts/hoodies with our favorite chamberlain painting on them? Maybe we could choose from 4-5 paintings? Or maybe even smocks? What do you think? I’d buy!

I notice your strong(er) and more assured use of color (before you commented on it in the video). Value is great as always, but your color is more on point. Cheers my friend!

I am in no way an artist but your paintings are stunning; I love your style! This channel is always interesting and calming to watch!
Well Michael, this is a tough one. I like the second where the car is not blocking the street. But , I really like the brush strokes in your first one. I would kill to know how to do that. If I were able to purchase one, it would be the first. I think it's you and what drew me to your work in the first place. I know you want honest critiques, and who am I to judge, but as an artist and a fan of your work that's my feelings. Tallahassee.

Well, as I said in the video the second hasn't been touched up. but I realize everyone has different taste and I know from previous comments that you prefer a higher level of finish. The true test is to see a painting in person. I appreciate the feedback!
This might be the best channel on KZread. Idk how I always seem to learn from your videos. The car renderings in your new painting are amazing. They’re really good in both, but the small touches really give them awesome detail and the proportions seem just spot on. Great job! I love the warmth of the first one, gives it such a lovely mood. Wonderful to see how your process and creativity has unfurled. Amazing job, Michael!! Thank you for sharing! Especially the part about mixing the mediums and loading the brush! I felt like that was for my question!

Hi Michael, just a thought: having looked at 70 or 80 of your videos made over the last few years, and enjoyed them all, I can’t help think that you have tons of material and the audience for an Art Book Kickstarter project.

I agree, he is one of the most prolific, fantastic plein air artists I've seen on KZread. And their are some d*mn good ones! His loose style but sooo accurate drawing gives a realism feel, with hardly any fine detail. I just love how he does that. And yes Mike, your cityscapes are better in just about every way today, I think! Have a blessed weekend
listening to ur voice and baking cookies at the same time is such a great way to live life😆 and both looks great to me

I like both in different ways. In the first the buildings in the distance on the left side of the street look like buildings, in the newer one they look more like cliffs at this stage.
definitely beautiful cityscape works!

I love the clean simplicity of your frames. Also, I know you’re busy with shows, but if you ever have another 8x8 daytime street scene for sale I would definitely purchase.

IMO only ...the distant buildings need softer roof edges to make the affect better...this gave me an idea for my own work and thanks for posting ☺
Michael, me to you, yes the 2nd holds and portrays more of your creativity ; )
you need to be appreciated more
I think they are both so beautiful. I am a big fan of your cityscapes of our beloved San Francisco. So interesting to listen to you and your self critique... but I must say there is such beauty in both!

Hi Michael, as a fan, I see that your painting has definitely improved. But most of us mere mortals would be happy to have just a portion of the incredible level of talent evident in your first iteration of this scene. All that said, these two paintings aren’t a good pair to explore the improvement question. They are both just too good (if for different reasons). In the first work, you captured a solitude, calm and peace of what can otherwise be a frenetic and noisy urban scene. I also love the richness of the foreground in Painting #2. But both of them are great! John, South Florida

Thanks John! I agree it's probably not a good idea to compare the two. I actually painted the scene again because I really liked the way the first painting came out. The second still needs touch ups, but I really like it as well. Thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated. 😊
I think I prefer your latest painting. The buildings in the foreground and the tree middle left are much better however the buildings in the distance look just a bit darker and heavier to me. It’s just my personal opinion but I love your cityscapes.
2nd painting has an image in the left tree

Now that you mentioned it, I now can't help but see face profiles in both tree clusters. The simple face on the left, and a ragged laughing face on the right.
Awesome critiquing of your own work. I would image, say, nope, I would definitely say you would be an excellent teacher. Maybe something to look forward to in your future. Awesome video. Thank you.

Will you include the street lights in the new painting? I like their shapes.

Probably not. If it was larger I probably would (20x20" for example)
Where do you find your references? I’ve been looking for good street pictures on google but none are good.

Uhh nice video, you know I love your earlier paintings a lot but I see you've evolved in terms of values and this new one looks very good. I like both very much. I'll be painting another seascape tomorrow (not the commission, that will have to wait till another meeting with the costumer because he is evidently bonkers and asks for ridiculous things I don't want to do). I understand why don't take commissions anymore lol.

Bonjour , Votre tableau est réaliste et magnifique Vous utilisez quel solvant et quel médium ? En vous remerciant
Hi Michael, I just thought of a question that maybe you could cover in one of your Q & A videos. I know you try to do as much of your painting plein air as possible but you sometimes you work from photos, so what is your approach to photographing your subject and what level of photography skills/equipment do you think someone needs to be able to produce a good photo reference? Edit: maybe I'm overthinking things, you can let me know.
