LEATHERMAN - Tread Bracelet: amzn.to/2pJ44vA
LEATHERMAN - Tread Tempo Watch: amzn.to/35sG4f9
The Leatherman Tread is crafted of high strength, corrosion resistant 17-4 stainless steel links that include two to three functional tools each, making a total of 25 usable features like box wrenches and screwdrivers available at a moment’s notice.
TOOLS:
Cutting Hook, Bottle Opener, Oxygen Tank Wrench, Carbine Glass Breaker, 1/4" Flat Screwdriver, 5/16" Screwdriver, 18/8" Flat Screwdriver, 10mm Box Wrench, 1/4" Box Wrench, 3/8" Box Wrench, 3/32" Screwdriver, 3/16" Screwdriver, #1-2 Phillips, #1 Phillips, 5/16" Box Wrench, 3/32" Hex Drive, 1/8" Hex Drive, 3/16" Box Wrench, 1/4" Hex Drive, 3/16" Hex Drive, 5mm Hex Drive, 6mm Hex Drive, #2 Square Drive, 1/4" Socket Drive, Pick/Sim Card Tool
PROS
1. Extremely cool looking! Looks badass and most would not know it was a tool.
2. Great conversation piece: Segway into more gear conversations
3. Tools all function and are crafted up to Leatherman Standards
4. TSA Compliant
5. Customizable: Multiple links
6. 1/4 Inch Socket Drive is a great dual purpose item
7. Seems to fit Leatherman Bits (not advertised)
8. Makeshift Self Defense Weapon
CONS
1. Expensive ($150-200)
2. "Chink In the Armor": The pivot point rod by bottle opener is weak
3. Clumsy To Use (inward angled tools, not a lot of grip)
4. Opening: Hard to determine where to open it (I use the cutter)
5. Inside labeling difficult to read (black ink, perhaps sweat would just rub off)
6. Customizable, but as add ons (still need base model) (I'd prefer building my own based on needs) (torx, more phillips)
Watch Version:
1. I trust Leatherman Tools, but I'm unfamiliar with their watches. I would prefer just the watch band and add to more established watch makers (e.g. G-Shock)
2. Kind of Bulky
SUMMARY:
1. Very unique product that will turns heads
2. Not a full size multitool replacement (more of a backup)
3. An awesome gift for a gear heads, bikers, preppers and people who like to wear chains
4. Leatherman hit a home run with this new tool!

Geez. I've only owned a cell phone for a month and I know how to install a microSD and SIM card the right way. That "pivot rod" is a roll pin. It's tough springy steel that's literally rolled into a hollow pin. The opposite end of the bottle opener will have all the force applied to it if you press down on it to open bottles. You already know which link to open it by. Just grab the screws between your finger and thumb and pull. My fat fingers cover the links of my LT too, and it pops right open when I pull on it. And I find it a lot easier to close if the opening on the can opener faces the hand on my left wrist, unlike a lot of videos I watched. P.S. I don't look at the sizes on the inside of the links. A tool is either the right size or it's not. If it's not, try a different one, like you would if you had a whole toolbox full.

Just got mine today. It weighs A LOT lesss than I expected. I thought this thing would weigh as much as a roll of quarters from it's size, but to my surprise is lighter than any of my watches. Got stainless, avoided black because my MUT has the black coating, and a majority of it rubs off from the factory. Also added small drops of blue lock tight to every screw. Not that it needs it, but better safer than sorry.

If they made a outdoors/ woodsman version I would be into this. Otherwise it's only good really for urban use and by a small amount of people with specific jobs that would require all of this screwing around (pun intended! ). Nice idea but I don't think the benefits of wearing it outweigh the cumbersome weight. At least as a watch strap it's more versatile. Thanks for the review.

The "hollow tube" in the latch is a "roll pin" or "spring pin". It's a safety device and the engineered weak point of the bracelet. You can pick up these pins at hardware and auto parts stores for a few cents each. Just keep an extra in your Altoids tin.

  • @Durwood71
    @Durwood716 жыл бұрын

Use it as a knuckle duster and you'll probably do more damage to your knuckles than to whatever you punch. Interestingly, they've updated the Tread slightly since this video. For one thing, the SIM card pick, cutter, and glass breaker are all on the same link now with the SIM card pick on the opposite side of the cutter. Secondly, the collar seen at 3:05 is now part of the screws as one solid piece instead of on the links themselves, which I suspect makes it a little sturdier since it looks like in this video that the collar was originally a separate piece.

Best review of this that Ive seen! I see your wrist is similar to mine nut slightly less hairy, so you find if the lugs and various connection points between the links catch and pull your wrist hair? Has the sim card extractor caught on clothing? I used to wear a watch, but no longer so, and I don't know if I could go back to wearing a heavy thing on my wrist, so you find this heavier than a regular metal banded watch? I imagine it is, and think it might be thicker too, any thoughts? Thanks

While wearing it how does one prevent any of the tools from puncturing your skin in case of any outside pressure ? R&D should have provided a cordura or leather strap on which the tread tool track could have been affixed temporarily.

Unfortunately, I have smaller size wrist and would probably end up removing some of the links just so that this would fit right without being to loose around the wrist. It'll be available in June at my local sports store (Cabelas) but they marked it up at $165 for the stainless & $220 for the black version. Great product tho!

Great vid FYI when breaking windows strike the bottom corners, works much better and try cutting the seatbelt on a downward angle with tension on the belt. See if this works with that tool. Also if you open the loop of the bracket and use a downward motion on the bottle opener it may not torque that weak joint.

Yes. People have informed me of the proper term since posting. I mentioned it because mine broke during the testing of this product (the black Tread seen in this video). That's why I addressed it as a concern. I imagine that this was due to it being an early version of the product and not as sturdy as the final version. Again, the pin broke when I was using the bottle opener during my tested so I wanted to mention it. I hope you enjoyed the other aspects of this video. Thanks for watching. ~Slick.

Got my Tread this weekend at Cabela's in Springfield Oregon. It's really awesome. some changes to the product from the prototype that was shown here. Leatherman changed the links a little bit, they are flush cut on the ends. They move the little shoulders on the links and added the shoulders to the screws. They also made the pick and the cutter one tool. the cutter has the pick on the backside. Beyond that it's all that I hoped for. Really like it and have legitimately had to use it twice this weekend.

Reference the standard Leatherman bits. Do not all rush out and buy them because yes they do fit in the holes but slide back and forth as there is nothing to secure them. I tried them yesterday and it's not a practical use of the tools. All in all the Tread is a sometimes useful item possibly more of a fashion item and quite expensive at £139 in the UK..thats nearly $215 methinks us Brits have been ripped off again. Thank you for the review.

Yes it is cool, but not very practical. The only way I would buy this, is if I could choose all the links myself! If that were possible, I would take it for its cool factor! Great review! STN

I really want one, will pre-order/buy when it becomes available :-) Just as a note though, that's not how you remove a SIM card :-P That'll just damage the tray! You just have to push the pin inwards and down rather than "prying" it out. (On all phones I've come across at least, including all of Nokia, HTC, Nexus and iPhone lines)

The bits fit in the sideways bit holder but it doesn't seem like there would be any way to put any useable torque on it. With a regular Leatherman you could ramp up the torque by turning the handle sideways T-handle fashion, but I fear this would just be frustration if there was any real work needed to be done breaking loose a fastener.

I'm not 'hardcore' or anything, but I was searching for 'multitool jewelry' this came up.... I get that it's a little limited but I think the whole idea is right on the money. I'd love to see more products moving in this direction

Even for that little 'cutter' alone for paper/envelopes and or fabric like seam stitching- this could appeal to anyone who regularly works with garments , designers and makers - I have aspirations to do some clothing projects so this could be handy ... oh and it does come in stainless?

Does the watch version has the same tools as the none watch version? And, I might be false, but this "simcard removal spike" seems a little bit bent in the end....

Neat tool, excellent review video. I too would prefer a watch band version. If one were to purchase the watch version just to acquire the watch band version, does it appear that the watch version could be adapted to accept another watch?

Dude, you spoiled your phone's SIM tray! You're supposed to push in with that pin, that's what it is, into that hole so the tray pops out! Not yank it out like levering it out like a bottle opener! Other than that, good review! Thanks, it helped!

Nice review. It seemed to me that you actually twisted your sim card slot hence damaging it, instead of just pushing the pin down at letting the sim card pop up...

Very clever design. I would like to see more features on the watch though. Day/Date and Chronograph should be features on a watch that size. The Tread is multi functional; why not the watch?

Thanks for this superb review. Let me add another con, which is at the moment only imperial unit tools are available but no metric unit version (my apologies if somebody else has already pointed it out). I live in New Zealand, so I have to wait until they make the metric version. Anyway, thanks again for a good review!

One question in regards to the locking band that locks into place on your wrist. As with some watches I have that have the same locking device, they seem to unsnap and allow the watch to come off if not careful. Have you found this wrist locking mechanism to come undone at any time during hard use of your hand or arm?

Can you fit as many links to the watch version compared to the bracelet? Also was it possible to modify the size for an individual fit without removing/adding links?

  • @TheUrbanPrepper

    @TheUrbanPrepper

    9 жыл бұрын

Alun Michael There would be less links total with the watch version. I don't think the size can be modified without removing links. I would need to verify with Leatherman, since these Treads are no longer in my possession.
