    I've been a blaster and demo man for nearly 50 years, and this is a greatly versatile tool for both. In a pinch, the carbon scraper works as a safety compliant powder knife and emulsion package punch. The cap crimper is still of value for us old-timers who work underground (not as much on surface blasting as most initiating systems make cap and fuse obsolete). Still, for wiring electric and electronic initiating systems, this is a hard tool to beat. Now if I can just keep the miners from stealing it. Happily, I can keep my fire arms in good firing order with this tool also, so they aren't as tempted! Excellent video!

    First, great video! No vanity B.S. Not one minute of my time wasted. Nothing but solid, salient info on this device. Thank you very, very much. Second, FYI, I was a Force Recon operator, circa 80s and 90s, and imagined a Leatherman like this with the crimpers and C-4 punch. So glad they finally did it. Not only EOD uses demolitions. Combat engineers, grunts and special operators do, too. All we used to have were the issue non-electric demo-tools: Imagine a standard pliers size tool with a crimper for jaws and a punch on the end of one of the handles. Fine if doing rear area work. Not fine for an operator for whom size, weight and accessibility are life and death. Love this thing.

    Thank you very much for your practical insight. I really appreciate you taking the time to watch my video. I made another one you might be interested in. It was my take on the feasibility of making a military themed tool, but using the Surge as the base platform. I would love to hear your thoughts. I carry one of these every day at work in public safety comm security. I use the C4 punch to mark cable spots in something soft like a wood mount, the saw to cut thru LDF4-50 shielding, the knife to clean it up, and the brass scraper to finish it. The rest is just cool (and useful for my weapons that I happened to have recently lost in a lake). I know I'm late to the video, just thought I'd offer a non-military use perspective.

    Another good analysis. Thank you. Not a big fan of loose handles on the EOD. Are the handles loose on your regular MUT? Not many MTs require a latch. I'd like to see a kit with interchangeable plastic pieces to add the C4 spike to the regular MUT since the plastic trim is thicker with the AR disassembly punch.

  • @txtoolcrib

    @txtoolcrib

    Thank you. The handles on the MUT are not super loose, but I can see why they added the catch. I probably wouldn't use it at all myself, if this were the multi tool I EDC'd. It would be nice if the plastic components interchanged though.

    About the pouch. A little note as I carried this boy for a good while. There is actually two pockets for thr bit sleeves, try to push it into the slot next to it, and youll see. Additionally, the sight toos is potentially a weak spot as it rubs around that area where the metal button is and I have removed it from there for that reason, aside from it being a good pain in the ass to actually insert when the seath is actually attached to my vest. The pouch for this guy doesnt seem to be engineered with use in mind, as i think most service memebers would probably use something else, and perhaps Leatherman knew it, since the WAVE seaths are considerably better engineered. I use a taco pouch for my leatherman now, and keep all the bit sleeves and extender in different places-depending on what I carry.
