    Beautiful work. Can you make a video on forming leather to a molded shape. I want to make a dragon eye arm wrap for my sister and I would like it to hold its shape independently. Thank you so much for sharing your art and knowledge.

    Hello Tiffanny, and thank you!. Speaking of the wet-molding, you may find useful this video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/a5-HubN6pr28nto.html. And in regards to the general leather carving and embossing you may find some other compilations on my channel: kzread.info/dron/Sct_mZRVn9X-IUv7_X3vtw.html. As to the support material for the dragon eye shape, you may use paper clay, or balsa wood insert - it may work just fine for such simple oval shape.

    You just have to draw the contour around the stone and give about 3mm of allowance inside this line. Then you flip the leather wild side up and make the angle cut (about 45 degrees) so the back side will match the stone contour, and face side will go along the allowance line. Hope that helps.

    How do you keep the stones from falling out the back? Do you put a piece of leather to hold them in?

  • @bgrartandleathercraftbygre3799

    @bgrartandleathercraftbygre3799

    7 ай бұрын

    Yes, that is correct - you can glue a piece of thin leather from behind to hold the stone in.

    1. I use knives of different configuration and sizes. Including swivel knife for decorative cuts. This video represents several moments when such knives implemented. 2. There are also several leather stamps like: V463, F925, D607 and similar configurations - some people call them "borders" because if you put imprints next to each other you can create kind of border or chain. I buy these stamps from the local " Tandy Leather" store. And I believe you may find them either online, or in your local leather store. Also I widely use so called "levelers" - lots of them can be found in the internet stores. Some of them I make myself from screwdriver bits or various stainless still bolts. 3. Also you would need various "sleeker" - they can have all kind of shape and be made from different materials, but all of them made for one goal - to make leather edges, or other areas of your project, smooth and sleek. 4. Also I'd recommend to have various modeling tools like "spoons" and ball-head styluses, which you can buy from "Amazon"

    Really cool cuffs! You use contact cement to hold the stone in? It stays put with the back of the cab exposed? Do you glue another piece of leather on the back of the cuff and cab to hold it?

    Thank you Jamison. I use contact cement to glue the cab. On top of that, when I prepare the "window" I do a slightly angled cut, which helps to hold the stone . And yes, there is a piece of thin leather on the back side. You may also consider a suede as a lining material.
