Beautiful work as always. Just a bit of a tip for anyone making load bearing straps and tabs. Layer a piece of polyester reinforcement ribbon 1/2" is pretty easy to find at sewing and sundry supply shops. As leather is very prone to stretching, the poly ribbon has almost no bulk, can be hidden easily, and will keep these points from stretching.

A beginner in leatherworking, I have watched a whole lot of videos and how-tos here and elsewhere. I am very happy to say that your instructions beat them all, hands down. You are clear, concise (even in a long video), take time to explain why, as well as demonstrating your own considerable skills. I have a few finishing licks to put to a current project and then will start on this one...that I have actually watched twice now and likely will refer to while making. Thanks for superior instruction and great patterns!

Hey Ian. Greetings from Canada. That's fanfreakingtastic work. I put off watching this build for a few too many years due to the length, but I am happy I found time to finally get it done. You are trouble-shooting both the gigantic and the little things all the way through like a champ. It's nice to see that there are others out in the world that still love to challenge themselves by using their old-world skill sets mixed and twisted in a modern mind framed era with the spontaneous invisible porthole labyrinth of April stew hardware and still pull off a beautiful and conventional work of art as you did here. A true artisan with a humble point of view. I hope that whoever has that Messenger Bag realizes just what they have when they think about it, and the other leather crafters think about how long it takes to learn what to do to make it look planned and finished in every little situation when you create a build like this. You can righteously feel that you have earned a pat on the back from yourself on this one for your attention to detail alone. Sköl

Hi Ian, great video!!! I bough the pattern pack and it's really great. Clear instructions and well written. Anyway I wanted to provide a tip about gluing the front of the bag to the gusset as well as the back to the gusset. Instead of being careful not to glue it all together, I used wax paper (or baking paper) so that the 2 pieces won't glue to each other before I intend to glue them. Just my 2 cents...

Thank you for sharing your skill and work on this video, it is an immense pleasure to be able to see true craftsmanship in play. Also by showing these videos and the craftsmanship that's involved further justifies why the cost of such goods are so high and boutique shops. That does not always mean that what is made by hand are the best but certainly there is a lot of time and effort that is required to create these items. Sadly in this Advent of globalism obviously there are individuals that have the same talents but get paid slave wages but do not reap the rewards and this is quite sad!

Thank you for your videos. They are much appreciated. I just thought I'd leave a tip for approx the 1:37:xx time stamp. Some strips of paper or toothpicks or any similar small object that can be easily removed might well serve as the extra hands needed to prevent the other side from sticking too early. Hopefully this will help some people who don't have a willing volunteer to assist them.

Really impressive work Ian. Wondering if it would be possible to use parchment or wax paper between the gusset and front / back pieces when gluing - peeling it away as you join things together (if that makes sense). Not sure how that would behave with the contact cement but it might make the process more manageable (if you mentioned something like that and I missed it I apologize). Just purchased a beautiful piece of Wicket and Craig Bridle as well as your template (your stuff is always super clean and informative) Going to be increasing the size to make a briefcase. Can't wait to start working on it.

I like the long videos. Anyone who cannot cope with "long", probably will struggle with the time involved in the "making". I bet more peeps will watch it twice than fall by the wayside :o) Have you any comments regarding the use of the leather softener/ preserver called "Mink oil" as used a lot for keeping high end shoes supple? I have some from a London based shoe designer, sold under his "The Shoe Snob" brand. The smell it gives the leather cannot be beaten, (unless you know different), and I use it on my shoes and the seats of my car just for the smell alone. Oh, and as I am from Birmingham, I had no trouble with your accent!!!! By far the most interesting vid I have seen on KZread, although the "Girl burying her Goldfish" vid from a couple of years ago is close contender....
