LEAST Helpful Diet Advice | Jason Fung

Dr. Jason Fung reviews the conventional but least helpful diet advice to lose weight. This advice is repeated over and over by doctors, dieticians and magazines but are not useful. "Choose the Best Diet for You" or sometimes "The best diet is the one that you can stick to" is advice that just doesn't work. The second piece of bad diet advice is "Eat everything in Moderation". That doesn't work either. The worst piece of dietary advice? "Cut your Calories" or "Eat Less, Move More". While it sounds like it works, it has failed for decades and its success rate is somewhere less than 1%. Check out my blog at / drjasonfung

The trouble with the weight watchers type of dietary advice is that you need to continue eating less as you lose weight or that’s the way it was when I tried it. I have tried it 3 times! No luck. I have tried Nutra system... Lost the weight but then couldn’t figure out how to keep it off. Tried the Curves diet. Lost 40 pounds on that. Could not sustain it because I got tired of eating the same package foods. Didn’t know how to eat if I wasn’t eating that type of food. Through lots of KZread watching and asking questions I finally came upon Keto and Low Carb. All those horrible cravings I had are gone. I eat rich delicious foods with lots of fats. I’ve now lost 105 pounds. Intermittent fasting has also helped immensely. It’s not easy figuring it out. Learning to cook this way it’s easy once you get the hang of it but it is so far away from all the package foods that were used to that it takes some retraining. It is so worth it!

@@richardmiddleton7770 Well not for me it wasn't. I went to the gym 5 days a week and ate "healthy". Still gained 4 lbs a year. I was over stressing my body and starving it by eating "healthy" vegetables and grains too high in sugar and not getting enough fat and protein. Constant hunger pains. I wasn't over eating though by modern standards. I didn't eat more than 1,200 -1,300 calories a day. I tracked it pretty closely. I also didn't eat a lot of sweets or drink sweetened drinks of any kind. With keto and IF I'm down 30 lbs and have kept it off for 3 years. I only have 10 or 15 lbs to go. Sorry if it doesn't fit your outdated hypothesis. It's my reality.

@@RandomJane104 One thing that struck me is by how much body temperatures of modern people have dropped. A lot of people sit in the 97 +/- 0.5F range, when not that long ago it was 98.4F. And not that long before that, pre-WW1, even 99.5F was normal -- especially if you lived in East Asia or in pre-industrial areas. So I absolutely believe you that you were eating 1,200 - 1,300 calories on average a day and gaining weight. Because people were eating a lot more then and keeping off weight. Have you seen nutritional guides prior to WW2? A petit woman could eat 2,500 calories a day and lose weight, these days that would make even athletes put on the pounds.

  • @NariKims

Moderation probably works for people who don't have problems with addiction. I've known people who could nibble on one cookie the entire day, but for you and me and many others it just turns into eating an entire pack or more. Often you hear people who are doing a good healthy diet, then they have one cookie and spiral for a few days to months or sometimes years! Why I hate that advice. Tell an alcoholic to moderate their consumption, it won't work. Those foods are also designed to be addictive and hyper palatable, even seeing ads literally saying this, lol.

Dr. Fung and his books have been life changers for me. I had spent my whole life dieting and gaining it back and then some each time...you name the diet brand...I did it. WW 3 times even. About 10 years ago I said...no more. My body is meant to be obese and I gave up. The funny thing was I did not gain any more weight as I did after every diet. So I was morbidly obese but; at least, no longer gaining. Then the Obesity Code came into my life. It was earth-shattering for me. I asked my husband, who was also obese to read it. Since then, following Dr. Fung, reading more of his books, and starting an OMAD lifestyle we are happily 85 and 75 pounds lighter. We are loving how we feel living the lifestyle. When we plateau we change things up a bit. I cannot say enough about how Dr. Fung has changed our lives and how much we both appreciate what he has done for us. Since last year we have introduced his books to at least 20 people who have seen our success and have followed suit. You are a life changer and should be proud of what you have done for so many of us who felt we were broken and could not be fixed.

Your ideas and advice has saved my life from yo yo dieting. I’m finally happy in my body. I feel better on fasting days and during fasting periods. It took a while to see my body drop the weight. However it worked. I’ve gone to several professional providers for nutrition and fasting worked for me. Thank you!!

Thank you Dr Fung for your gr8 content. I’m a big fan of yours and Dr Berg as well. What works for me is IF, OMAD, minimal sugar, no processed food, low carbs especially in the evening, regular exercise to lose weight and keep it off. Setting realistic goals is key and sticking to them. Everything in life is work and losing weight is no different so you have to apply effort to achieve your weight loss goals. I have lost over 60lbs since last January and I’m feeling and looking better than ever. I also adjusted my mindset - I’m on a ‘lifestyle’ plan, not on a diet per se. Made a huge difference in how I incorporate all of these elements into my life and how I speak to myself regularly on well I am doing through self praise. I have 13lbs to go before I reach my ideal weight and yes, I’m on a countdown for the beach 🏖 in August !? Best of luck everyone and thank you once again Dr Fung 🙏🙏
