"After studying the Hungarian language for years, I can confidently conclude that had Hungarian been my mother tongue, it would have been more precious. Simply because through this extraordinary, ancient and powerful language it is possible to precisely describe the tiniest differences and the most secretive tremors of emotions." George Bernard Shaw

Tímea Hunyadi Timea! Timea! Why would you feel ashamed to be living in Hungary? You have not done anything bad, as a Hungarian, to be ashamed of anything. And please be careful of people from the West, who flatter you. Their friendliness and admiration for your country can be beguiling and seemingly sincere. It rarely is. Countries like Hungary are newly emerged from communism, and you haven't yet built up an immunity to Western-style trickery and ruses. I can only advise you to be sceptical, wary and alert.

Well i wasnt be abroad so i cant say that you wrong or right about the ppl there. I take your advise of course i wont be so friendly bec we cant know for sure the ppls intent, but the ppl cant be always so suspicious. I will be careful but open minded at the same time. Thank you for your answer. Its a relief that there are a normal ppl out there :D I mean who can answer to someone without bullying and being primitive, and insulting others. :) (my english is not perfect so im sorry for that :D )

Tímea Hunyadi May I please have this opportunity to be your English teacher for a few minutes? (I used to teach English, and I also trained as a Writer.) I see no reason why you would refuse, so I will correct your reply; I will only minimally deviate from your own words and sentence constructs: [OPEN QUOTES] "Well, I haven't lived abroad so I can't tell whether you're right or wrong about the people in various Western countries. Of course, I'm unlikely to respond to the over-friendliness of others with the same level of friendliness as I won't be able to readily decipher their true motives. However I cannot wear a face of continuous suspicion. I will be careful, but open-minded at the same time. Thank you for your reply. It's a relief to know there are normal people out there. [I cannot understand what you mean by the next sentence, so I cannot confidently correct it. However, I'm guessing you're trying to say: "I mean, how can anybody respond to another's friendliness by saying bluntly, "I do not trust you"; it would sound insulting and uncouth."] Sorry, my English isn't perfect. [close quotes] --- So, that's my small and temporary job done. You can try using GoogleTranslate to experiment with translations, as long as you keep in mind that GoogleTranslate isn't "perfect" either. :)

Hungarians find the existence of gendered pronouns in other languages odd. :) I myself often don't know whether to use "he or she", or just one, or "they", when I try to talk about a person of undefined gender. I'd LIKE to say the Hungarian language is more egalitarian that way (since it doesn't think gender difference matters), but actually English is egalitarian in an equally important way, in that it does not have a formal "you", like Hungarian and other European language have a separate "te" (you, friendly/informal) and "Ön"(you, polite/informal) followed by verbs conjugated in the 3rd person (you can do something similar in English actually, like "do you want a cup of tea?/Does Madam want a cup of tea?, but it's far less commonplace). And I think that goes a long way to empower you to talk to your elders and superiors in a more casual and comfortable way. Anyway, your Hungarian is fantastic, and I thank you for your patience with our countrimen. :D They don't travel and get out as much as other nations, and so they may sometimes act casually offensive or ignorant without noticing it, and I apologize for that on our behalf. But they mean well and I hope your interactions with everyone have mostly been pleasant. :)

Bakondi Gábor Last week I met a middle-aged Hungarian couple who have been living in Australia for many years. They called their OWN language "ugly" and "useless". :/ I don't agree with them, but that's because I have an intense interest in languages. In trying to see Hungarian the way they do, I guess it's "useless" compared to English, which I'm lucky enough to speak very well. Ugly? I actually have found Hungarian beautiful through listening to Gypsy songs sung in Hungarian. I really like Mary Notar's voice.

***** Sanskrit, I imagine (may be incorrectly) would be easy in that it is so logical; but difficult in that it demands absolute precision. Or rather, it trains the speaker's thoughts along absolutely logical and precise paths. Georgian seems difficult, even if only because of its unique script.

Bakondi Gábor I learned Finnish which I found much harder than Hungarian for lots of reasons. A few examples: in Finnish the nouns change more often before you put the endings on, like Helsinki - Helsingissä (in Helsinki) Turku - Turussa (in Turku) and the adjectives change too so 'kaunis maa' beautiful country 'kauniissa maassa' IN a beautiful country. I find Hungarian to be hard in that the words and structures are different but it is very regular and logical and actually not as hard as Hungarians like to think it is. What I love about Hungarian is how you can build wonderful words like 'megcsókolhatlak?' (can I give you a kiss?) which I heard in a film once. Also I have never been to a country where people are so warm and appreciative when you actually try to speak to them in their own language as Hungary. Great place and lovely people.

Before IX century in middle asia, then the comans arrived to Hungary in the XIII century and finally the ottomans in the XVI-XVII century. .
