    "Kocsonya" is not fat jello. It's a meat soup that has a jelly-like texture. Yes, it contains parts of the pig like skin pieces, ear, tail and the end of the leg with the nails, but it is cooked very well. You need these parts for the soup, because they are containing collagen and the collagen gives the soup its texture. So it is a soup that once is cooled becomes jelly-like. And it also contains meat. I do not like the pig ear and legs, but I love the soup itself. This type of dish can be found also in many European countries like Germany, France, in slavik-speaking countries and in Russia and Korea as well.

    I stopped at the first two things, cause they're not weird Hungarian habits, they're pretty common in most of Europe. Ice water is sooo American. You can have water from the fridge or room temperature, no need to add ice unless you're in the desert. Went to NY, asked for a Coke, it was 90% ice, I thought it was just a way to give you less Coke 😅

    Actually almost all nations or coungries have these food. E.g. "hurka" has two main different types. One is a blood sausage, which the English, the French, the Spanish so have and is even a staple of traditional Louisianan cuisine. The other type is with liver, and it is basically haggis, only made from pig and not sheep :) "Kocsonya" is not "fat jelly". It is basically a soup made from highly gelatinous (and not _fatty_), tasty parts of a pig and with smoked meat also - and served cold. If you heated a Kocsonya, you would get a nice strong....ramen. Only add noodles to it.

    Hurka is not sausage (kolbász). Kolbász is from meat, but Hurka is from leftovers from the pig slaughter. The little white thing in there was probably not well cooked rice, as we don't usually put bones in it. You should try hurka when you come to Hungary, but from the countryside, and ask before for the good places, as it is pretty easy to make it bad. Southern-eastern part you can't really mishit, they are good (Békés county is the best 🙌)

    The "don't sit on cold benches" rule roots from an old misconception that people thought that some urinary tract infections were caused by sitting on cold object. There is an other typically Hungarian misconception that many people still believe that Calcium helps when you have allergic reactions for wasp stings. Even some doctors still believe in this myth. This roots from the fact that decades ago there was a medicine which had similar name and contained some antihistamin too so that was good against allergic reactions.

    There are 2 kinds of hurka. The blood one and the liver one. The liver one is more tastier so I recommended. I also hate blood hurka even though I'm Hungarian myself. And about kocsonya, alot people don't like it so we understand. My dad loves kocsonya lol And of course on the north it's always very cold And also our grammar can be weird for foreign people and for us Hungarians we have so many words and we can combine them so Hungarian is a good language. And like we always say: száz szónak is egy a vége; Hungary is just beautiful (despite the cigerettesy pigeons and VIII. Kerület) it is just beautiful!

    Hungary used to have a rule? No, they still do. There's a book of names you can choose from still but only that one book

  • @gabor222

    @gabor222

    Жыл бұрын

    Yes there is a rule of names but it does change every year, so they approve new names and they allow foreign names transformed to Hungarian pronunciation like "Jennifer - Dzsennifer". So if you want to give your child a name that is not in the book then you can request it and some linguists will check if that it is a real name (exists in other country or in literature) If it has no Hungarian version yet they can approve it and add it in a Hungarian form to the list. They make mistakes sometimes for example they added "Elladan" from Lord of the Rings but screwed up the pronunciation and made it "Elládán" (made both "a" sounds long). The gypsy minority of the last few decades very often chooses non-Hungarian names that they take from TV-shows, football-stars etc and there is a tendency of parents choosing western names too to make their children look "special".
