Learning to Solve a Rubik's Cube in under 1 minute

Thanks for watching! Help me reach 1000 subscribers by 2020 if you like these challenge videos.
I set out to solve a rubik's cube in under 1 minute or 60 seconds. It took about 30 hours of studying and solving in order to do this, and I highly recommend it as a fun challenge. It really was a ton of fun.
I filmed all this challenge at the beginning of 2019, but scrapped it initially for a reason I can't remember. Well... I finished editing it and here it is!

Awesome job! this channel is extremely underrated. If you want to get faster, the next step would be improving your lookahead. Lookahead is where whilst you're solving a step or doing an algorithm, look around the cube to see what to do next so that there are no pauses in your solves. E.g. while you're solving your first f2l pair, try to find other potential pairs to do next. It's a very good habit to get into when you're just starting and I really wish I was given this information when i was just beginner. It will help you shave off a lot of time. Really great video as always :)

Yeah I would focus more on efficient f2l and then lookahead because jperm and other big guys out there say this. Also it just makes sense, you need to be efficient before you turn faster. Think about it, if you ain't efficient but you put all this time into doing it faster and then say it's time to get efficient, your gonna have to redo it again because you are working with a different way and you'll be slow again but then that is the time to turn faster

As a fellow sub-minute cuber, I salute you. Yes, compared with the professional level achievement that is a sub 5-second solve, a sub minute solve is a milestone. Personally I’ve found my fastest achievements have been from learning more f2l algorithms even one by one, and getting incredibly familiar with the color order on the cube. More algorithms and better familiarity make a look ahead approach possible. And not to give props to the original Rubik’s, but in all honesty their “connected” cube (Bluetooth with an app) is kind of awesome. It’s turned me from a consistent 1:15 solver (ao5) to like 0:55(o12) or better sometimes. PB on it is 0:38. The competitive aspect has been a real pleasure. I recently ordered a Gan 356 i3 which is basically their take on this. I suspect it’ll be fun too. Anyway - nice job. The 1 minute is like “I can Ollie” on a skateboard, and you can do it as you get older too and not risk broken bones. (No guarantee - I never dared to learn the Tony Hawk f2l algorithms.)

Great video. How long did the whole process take from your first solve to under 1 minute? I haven’t learned anything but the beginner method yet. I can solve consistently in 85 seconds and my best is 72 seconds…. But I can’t get any faster with the beginner method! This video inspired me to go learn F2L and start learning the faster more advanced methods! Thanks!

I’m kind of new to cubing, and I’ve been using the beginner method by JPerm. I’ve been trying to learn F2L, OLL, and PLL, but it’s seemed to be going a lot slower for me when solving my cube. My time is 2 minutes and 30 seconds, and I want to try to get to sub 30. Should I keep my beginner method or try to improve on F2L, OLL, and PLL? Also should I use only one of these methods and solve the rest normally or just what methods are the absolute best for speed cubing?

  • @rofiter3999

No, You need to learn F2l,OLL,PLL coz your going for sub 30 and that's fast and no matter how fast you move your fingers you have to move your fingers at least 120- 130 but with learning these methods you can get up to 60 moves and now you understand the difference. 😀good luck🙂 but nothing is impossible so you can try in beginners method

Method I use is: daisy-white cross-white corners-yellow cross-corners match-yellow corner-yellow full side done-full cube solved. I only use Right and Left algs and it takes forever to solve a cube. Any algorithms to cut down my time doing only these 2 algs? Thank You.
