As a person that lives in south Manchester, these words are very new to me except for the classic “ ar kid” she’s from north ! Typically in the south it’s mixed with ldn slang/ manc , ask a manc from north ! Manchester is BIG and it keeps getting big !

Completely agree! I’m from Stockport and I’d say I have a Cheshire accent not a manc accent although I do say a couple of the manc phrases just with a more ‘proper’ pronunciation (no dropped letters)

This guy knows his languages, he speaks better English than most people born here. Misbah is clearly a Northern Manc, I recognise the accent as being from there, having lived in Newton Heath, Blackley and Higher Blackley, now residing in leafy Whitefield, Bury, still north of Manchester. South Manchester is a slightly different accent, inner city (Ancoats, Miles Platting, Collyhurst) is even more different, then there's Salford, different again...

As a child my family taught me to say my ts but I do still miss the gs at the end of words. Lol. I live near Stockport so our accents are a little softer. I never understood why Liam and Noel speak like they do. I know people from Burnage and they sound more like me with a softer accent. The Oasis accent sounds put on to me. I never understood why. They are a similar age to me now.

whenever people say the manchester accent they automatically think of noel and liam south or stockport side, when really theres such a different accent for the northern half of manc all the stops on the bury line and the north side. good to see some representation of the north of manc for once cos as we all know the north is better ;)

I'm trying to find out what the accent is of some of the characters in the Britbox show, The Bay. The last long "e" sound in a word is pronounced "eh". So a teenage girl named Abbie pronounces her name "Abbeh". "Maybe" is "maybeh" (or "mehbeh"). It's more pronounced than what I've heard with other British accents. I think I hear it in this woman's "You need to baff the 'babeh'." Does that strong "eh" identify Abbie's accent as Mancunian?

I very much suspect that the doubling of the pronoun at the end of a sentence serves two Mancunian purposes, each of them oriented toward social grace, working in concert. The one is that it affords an opportunity to "end on a high note," which is to say slide the voice from a lower to a higher note. The other is that is pretty much announces it's the other person's turn to speak.

This is so funny how Liverpool & Manchester are basically like sister cities, yet the accent is SO different. At least to someone who's from that way. So my family are all.in Liverpool & the accent is just SO strong & distinctive. I feel like the the Liverpool accent is like somewhat similar to the Manchester accent but on steroids 😂 Just extra dramatic/spicy - just like the Liverpoodlians 😂

I can explain the 'its good that' and 'shes good her' I think. Just saying 'thats good' or 'shes good' sounds insincere, like we have more to say or like we dont really care. If I told my friend I got a new job and they said 'oh thats good' I would be waiting for a '...but'. If they said 'thats good that' I know they arent going to carry on and they arent being sarcastic. I guess being sarcastic and negative is in our nature haha, we need that extra bit of emphasis.
