With teachers and guides like that in life...? ppshhh... I couldnt imagine where I would be right now if I had that growing up. Irrespective of what people say, having top quality teachers and parents in life has a huge impact on someone.

for the fuel filter,Harbor Freight makes end cap sockets to fit on the filter, that accept a 1/2" drive breaker bar or ratchet to remove the filter. they come in sets for different sizes of filters,also can be used on oil filters. then you won't have to use the screwdriver method. ISTR they're not very expensive. you will also get better access/clearance with the wrench/breaker bar,no knucklebusting.

Tip: On a machine with hydraulics you should change the hydraulic filter as well. Usually the hydraulic oil doesn't need to be changed at the same intervals as engine oil. You can send a sample out to be tested and they will tell you if it's good or not. Also I find Pig Mat better than rags for a lot of that drippy oil... say near the filter.

Happy birthday Jade. Hope you had a great day. On the oil change. A couple of things I do. When changing oil I drain the oil and leave the drain plug out. When I start to refill the engine oil let some fresh oil run out and then put the plug back. You waste an ounce or so of oil, but you get that much more dirty oil flushed out. A band clamp could get a better grip on a stuck filter. Consider punching a hole in the bottom side of the filter to help drain it. I usually try to put some fresh oil back in the filter regardless of its position. Yea, one on its side like your mill will only allow a small amount, but at least it's better than nothing 😊😊😊

Hey Jade, I just wanted to say happy birthday to you. I’m sorry it’s late I want you to know your family gives a lot of really solid information about log milling and I love that you turn trees that are dying and railroad ties because once they are pressure treated with creosote or the chemicals that preserve them they can help trains carry make a loads of material to all Americans!! You and your sisters are as pretty as can be and beautiful. In many ways I want is love the girl or girls that can drive a diesel log loader. Service and run a hydraulic sawmill and still stay extremely healthy and fit. I’m not working at a log sawmill right now, but have worked for Northwest hardwoods. A few years back we were processing 28 full-size log truckloads per day and you can imagine the team effort for that. As far as your broken blades go, I am a welder fabricator, but I don’t specialize in making blades. I just want to say if anyone overheats a weld of any material, it could become too hard and brittle reducing your attention, pressure and increasing your cooling was a brilliant practice , as far as material density and the heat of the world is between you guys and Jay played manufacturer I hope this helps you love you guys like family Chuck Richards, Northwest millwright

On our APU on highway use or trucks have Go Green Brand mfg Local in Altoona. There recommended oil change intervals is 1,000 hrs.They used to spec them with Yanmar engines, but with ever increasing EPA demands they had to switch to Kubota engines. My truck is a 2022 Peterbilt 579 and the APU already has has 5300 plus hrs for 2.5 yrs of operation.

Happy Birthday Jade🎉 Grandpa is giving a first class OLD SCHOOL lesson in a tried and proven oil change process. Lubing the seal, checking to make sure it didn’t stick on the block, draining all the oil (I’m guessing he warmed the engine before dumping the oil) and wha hasn’t had to pound a screw driver through a filter to twist it off. Also, never use a wrench to tighten a new filter. Hand tighten only. Well done😊

Happy birthday Jade!! 🥳 I was expecting a secondary filter like Grandpa was.. You can usually pick up the internal secondary filter that fits inside the larger filter wherever you get the air filters or NAPA. It's a good idea since the engine is in a dusty/dirty mill environment to check into getting one.

Here's a little tip my mechanic has me add a quart of diesel to the oil and run engine for a few minutes then drain the oil it helps clean up the sludge better then change oil

15w-40 Rotella is a great summertime oil. For below freezing temps you might want to go to a full synthetic 5w-40, which will flow better in cold startups. Also, ask Grandpa about the lubricity of ULSD (ultra low sulfur diesel). I run a 100:1 mix of 2-cycle oil in my tractor, mostly to keep the injectors lubricated. Cold weather starts may be better with a cetane enhancing additive. You really don't want to use starting fluid on a diesel if you can avoid it. I second the comment about changing the hydraulic filter and checking the level. You should also get a gasoline powered air compressor to blow out the radiator and hydraulic cooler. Your 70 is an expensive tool. There's a lot more to being an operator than checking the oil. Inspect the whole machine before you start it every day. Tighten anything that vibrates loose. Where is your grease gun?

Filling up a diesel filter might contaminate it. Diesel engines need prestine filtered fuel. Its better to mount the filter empty and purge the air using the manual pump.. If the motor doesn't have a manual pump, than better add one. Only this way you're sure only wel filtered fuel gets to the engine.

You best be washing out them radiators and oil coolers too. Blowing them out everyday and spray them out once a week!

missed the gasket one time on my explorer made one mess but fortunately didn't ruin the engine it lasted another 8 yrs i got lucky since i drove about 6 miles before i discovered it it was a great truck

I have seen one of our Freightliner Cascadia without a APU on it that was about 12 months in service with 64,000 mi and about 3200 plus engine hrs on the factory fill of oil before it got brought in for it,s first PM service. This amount of excessive idle time blew my mind. Go tell any heavy equipment operator or a farmer about 3200 plus hours on a oil change.

You say it's your Birthday; Happy Birthday To You! (Beatles White Album 1968.) Em, there should be a maintenance schedule outline for that mill. Lots of times companies include one w/ check boxes. Most require it for warranty. Everything has it's particular time interval for filters, lube, fuel, cooling, adjustments and cleaning.. Please tell your Grandfather a lot of LOF guys will punch a hole in the spin-on filters to drain them w/ out spilling jet Black oil all over the place. Also, 2 Excellent Points he made. 1). Filling the fuel filter all the way up will help shrink the size of the air bubble trapped in the fuel lines from opening the system. 2). Making absolutely certain the oil filter "O" ring that seals the spin-on oil filter to the filter mount/housing comes off with the old filter is a must. If it stays on it will fail and blow oil all over the place. If the low oil shutdown fails it can easily destroy the engine. Hey, great video & Happy B Day Jadie. ben/ michigan

All the deisel engines I ever worked on had an air bleed screw and primer pump to get air out of the fuel system after a filter change. Usually there is a manual lever on the fuel pump. Open the bleed screw and work primer lever until only fuel comes out the bleed screw.

Happy Birthday Jade! Hope ya have lots of fun today. Drive a screw driver through it. Done that a few times. That much air could cause the injectors to lose their prime. When my old truck was new, the mechanic said you can buy oil and grease far cheaper that new parts or even and engine. My 1979 F250 still running great. I always fill up the oil filter as well.
