The proper dad-son chemistry in the sketch is what makes it so special.
"Try not to go on fire"... advice everyone can live by. XD
I first watched this over 10 years ago, coming back in 2022 for some tips as my kid is learning to ride a bike now. Must remember the bit about not going on fire.
I hope the child actor really did get a chance to cycle down a hill as he seemed genuinely excited at the prospect 😂

He went on fire, didn't you see?
Imagine watching this at a distance, you’ve just see a kid spontaneously catch on fire and his’father’ just standing about casually.
The first 15 seconds are just adorable :')
"You see, what you've done now is, you've gone on fire. You've gone on fire. Next time we'll try again, next time try not to go on fire."

I love the bit where he just tosses the kid over the hedge [01:01] genius!

This is absolute GOLD. I have not laughed that hard in a looooooooooong time!
Hilarious. The throwing the kid into the bushes was a bit of a stretch. But the "try it again this time try not to go on fire" was genius off the wall comedy.
lol love the bit when he just chuckes the kid into the bushes
He gets my vote for father of the year award..
I've been seeing this in gif form for many years. I never realised it was Simon Pegg!

Remember watching this back when it was on and my Dad was in hysterics at the "Oh you've caught fire!" bit xD
I died when he chucked him into the bushes.
0:57 is the bit that makes me laugh the most 🤣
I came from a man who punched himself, cracked people's passwords, then waged tank warfare.

"You've gone on fire" - the innocuousness of that comment given the tragedy that is happening is hilarious. Also a Simpsons tribute, according to one of the writers, Graham I think her name is, based on how things were always going on fire in that show for no reason, cereal etc.

I came here because I wanted to watch a video. I stayed because there was a video to watch.
Hey, everybody has difficulty riding a bike on the first try. And also spontaneously bursting out in flames. It happened to all of us and also happened to me, but now I'm good at it. 🙂
This is gold!

True... I feel like the throwing into the bushes bit is kind of priming you for the bizarre (but hilarious) final scene, because that's where it starts to get really weird.

All of us started like that.
Hahhahahah when he throws him in the bush.
Tragically, this reminds me of when i learned to ride a bike... except for the spontaneous combustion

The trick is to not go on fire.
He is just singing, "down hill, down hill."
Love the way the kid falls. Wish all those little bugg**s would meet that fate.
That is how I learned
Awesome humour . There was a show in the US with similar humour . It was called Bizarre and a character named Super Dave Osborne it was awesome and very low budget TV series.

But the US bizarre comedy show had a conventional name Bizarre. Whereas the Brit bizarre comedy show had a bizarre name: Big Train. I think that says something, though I'm not sure what it is.
1:29 that happened too me too when I was learning :(

It's still better than being in a period or semicolon.
For any parent that has taught their kids to ride a bike, you do worry about them hurting themselves. The “you just caught on fire” part actually is quite an intellectual observation of parental fear, it’s something that becomes out of your control once they are responsible for their own actions and they are independent once taught. The fire joke highlights the complete helplessness you feel once they do hurt themselves, and of course you want to be able to do something to prevent it from happening but it’s so absolute, so definite to go on fire there are permanent consequences in that regard. It’s the same being a parent the consequences are permanent when the child makes a mistake and hurts himself, they are permanent in the sense that you failed to protect them and the child realises that they are responsible for their own actions. Very very interesting concept of comedy.

ok try this time not to go on fire lol
That was me when I tried to ride a bike... I still can't ride a bike.
Ouch!!!
0:44 - 0:54 = best use of a doll ever
The reason why I never learned how to ride a bike was because I kept on catching fire.
"Try not to go on fire"
Oh my word ... was that an animatronic lifeform there, pedaling, at the very end? Oh well, even if not, good for you! Thanks for taking one for the comedy team, anonymous child stunt person!
