I'm someone who has been making music for quite a while and I can say that yes, the piano lessons definintely have helped, the random fumbling around would have been awful if you didn't know what you were doing. There's a big difference between feeling you're just pressing random notes and actually pressing random notes. Great job!

As someone who makes a living writing music for films, TV and videogames, I can say that your process is honestly not too different from that of a professional! I'm seriously impressed by how fast you picked up on the chops, and I can see that you have a really good understanding (or maybe just innate sense) of how music works both linearly (progression) and vertically (instrumentation and harmony). I've been following the channel for some time and never would have expected you to actually do the music as well!

@Just Another Galaxy tried both and I prefer fl, even in terms of workflow. It's just 100% up to personal preference, you can make amazing music with either one of them. It's much more about the artist. In terms of plugins the fl EFFECT plugins are great, but i don't think the generator plugins of any DAW are really enough to make professional music. Don't worry tho, there's a lot of free stuff on the internet, i especially recommend Spitfire LABS. Ok why did i even type all that, you were literally just asking which daw is better 😅

In the 'Making An Action Song' chapter of the video, when you are starting out with the slap base, you start with like half notes, then quarter notes, and then end up on eighth notes... I think it would be a good idea to try experimenting with a similar melody, using the quarter notes from before, that then quickens to the eighth notes when the boxing match starts heating up. You can transition between these melodies based on the amount of punches being thrown or health of the characters or some similar idea. It might be worth a shot!

I recommend not to add too much element to your song. It's easy to get lost adding stuff and make it too messy. It happens to me all the time. Also, is really good to have a main idea as the theme of the game and have something from that theme in every song. It give the soundtrack more coherence. Then you can play with how you change the theme and with witch sounds you choose to fit the vibe of a particular battle or ambient.

suggestion: make a trophy menu. every championship you win you gain a trophy in the menu, you could also implement challenges depending on each championship that could get their own trophy or achievement in the game's menu
I think the music sounds amazing! But to maybe make some of the fights a bit more dramatic, it would be cool if the signature moves had their own little song or maybe a loud sound effect. A little thing, I always like it when a game uses one main Motiv also called a Leitmotiv, where the composer uses a base template and plays a new instrument and melody over it. Also remember a lot of games use the main theme to represent the player so a triumphent version for winning a league could fit that plays after the winning melody.
hey, I just wanted to say that I appreciate how much more mature your videos are now compared to your old ones. this was excellent and inspiring
I may not be a music creator but I have been playing in band since I was in 5th grade, and I will say hearing your wip with the music was awesome (aside from the mess of your first attempt at the victory music, but we all have to learn). The victory fanfare also gets a vote for me, I like how it feels.
I think different songs for different opponents is just a fantastic idea. The song about the Vikings is on point. I can't wait to see the music for the other antagonists. I know it's very difficult to make a song for each character in their own style, but it's worth the trouble, trust me!

I think your "victory song" would actually work better as the main theme or lobby music. You're doing great, I have been producing for a few years now and you have definitely been learning quick, Great Job!
I’ve been gone from game dev videos for only 5 months, wtf did I miss for this game jesus it looks amazing
I'm digging the melodies you're putting together a lot! I think looking back to the N64 era for inspiration is a really good creative choice here, and you've done some amazing work so far for sure! I gotta admit though, I find some of these instrumentals and sound fonts.... _interesting._ I love me some Marimbas and Pan Flutes _in general,_ since they just hit that part of my brain that instantly brings up tunes from stuff like Banjo-Kazooie and Diddy Kong Racing. Some of your more chill songs remind me of other great music from mid or late '90s games like Croc and LittleBigAdventure. Everything you showed us sounds really great on their own! I'm just not sure instruments like marimbas and flutes work super well for action songs in your game (unless you've got a tropical/island/jungle-themed boxing ring level. I can't remember if you're doing one of those or were just messing around with _maybe_ doing one in a previous video). Luckily, since this is all digital, you can just play around with swapping out instruments and get something else without changing the actual melodies. You pointed out some games like Bomberman 64 and Super Mario 64 in your video, but did you look at any of the N64's fighting games? It's not known for its fighters, sure, but you could probably still pull some inspiration from titles like Custom Robo or SD Hiryu no Ken Densetsu. Custom Robo: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oIKbldaEeJrcnJc.html SD Hiryuu no Ken Densetsu: kzread.info/dash/bejne/oIimspecaNTXdrA.html See what I mean about the sound fonts? Not so heavy on the tropical instrument. I think the kinds of instruments in the Custom Robo music would fit your Action Song really nicely, too - it's still boppy and bouncy and fits the tempo well. At any rate, keep up the great work! This really is such a fascinating, informative and entertaining series to follow! We're all pulling for you and Punch-A-Bunch!
The music direction is so diverse I love it, the song you made for the final few bosses feels a lot like an Undertale boss song, but the tutorial song gives me major Super Mario 3D World vibes.
This takes me wayyy back, I just more excited to play ur game now keep up the good workk
Maboy became a musician just to make a game, this is a real man
Really nice work with the music, think your creative flair really came out with the tracks! And thanks for the course/keyboard recommendations, I'm currently in the same boat as I'm trying to learn piano too, as you showed, being able to play tracks from games seems like so much fun!
Been yearning for a new boxing game and its cool to see your process in making the music!
For a first song, I think it actually sounds great! All the music showcased in this video is really bouncy and I love it. I can't believe how the stage select is layered so well and isn't chaotic at all.
You've made me want to buy Fl Studio even more now, DAMN YOU!! Awesome video, I've been putting more of a focus into my own tunes and seeing your soundtrack journey was fantastic! Also you should also try adaptive music sometime, even though it's pretty fuckin hard to make it’s really fun to mess with lol. Adaptive music could make fights and the tutorial section way more interesting. Like as you learn more in the tutorial the song gets more exciting, not exactly needed but really fun.
Give it a try to give every boss its own theme song! I would love it !
Never missed a devlog! I love how you share your thoughts and your feelings that you’ve experienced in your “journey” letting people immerse in your experience
Really cool to see your learning process - I will say tho I think the victory song would be way better suited for the credits of the game. Having a fanfare just feels more energetic & you need a way to hook your players back into wanting to play another round, and music can make a powerful impact on their decision
Hey Ponty! Been following this ever since the first video, Loving the videos! :))
Great Job Ponty! The number of Dev Loggers who officially release their game is shockingly low, so you should be very proud and excited!! :)
Lets gooo! New video! Love your vids, keep up the good work 👍
The music turned out great, especially the music that plays while you’re actually boxing.
I think every level should have a different version of the same song but like the instruments and tempo of the song changes so it has a unique distinct style
This dude has a surprising natural talent
As a producer, I feel like you learned much quicker then I did when I first started creating music and most if not all songs you made for this sound perfect for the game and feel of the game. Game on, bro! 🎉
Loved the devlog/complog :) Thanks for sharing, your game is really taking shape. Good luck with the final stages!
It would be cool if the theme for the tough guy near the end, who doesn't have any gimmicks, was a remixed version of the rookie's theme.

Yes, as if he was an upgraded version of the rookie
Very nice job so far! One suggestion is, you should make different background music for every boss. Like for example, with the astrounaut it's spacey and maybe a little bit sci-fiey. And for like the monk, it's really like melodic and ambient. Edit: Also, sometimes less is more, and what I mean by that is that sometimes, maybe not all the time, you should have less instruments playing, because at some point it becomes to much and kind of "over-crowded". It might "system overload" some people.
bro you are so talented, all of these songs are fire
Hey! Your game really looks amazing. With the addition of music to your game you should increase the sound of the hits, to keep that heavy feel to the punch. Its really incredible how fast you were able to make music that actually sounds good. Really amazing job, keep up the good work
For me it felt like in the first couple of devlogs you tried to copy Dani a bit. But in the latest Vlogs you have found your own vibe and it's really enjoyable. Love it👍👍
I am 4 Minutes in and just thinking "Ponty, you baffle me every time" You are amazing my brother. And as i reach the end of the video i can say: Man, i am not only baffled, but impressed! Every Devlog you just come out with a better one, it's insane! Also, how come you don't have a Patreon?

Dude, this songs are really sick. Imagine yourself after like 5 years, you'll be making the sickest songs ever
