In this video I'm going to learn how to analyse colours in a fairly complex print and try to make the photograph more balanced. Since it was taken under artificial light in quite dark conditions - I'm very interested in learning how to make such corrections.

I used to print my own darkroom color prints several decades ago. This is the best instructional video I have seen so far on printing color negatives in the darkroom. I printed with and without a color analyzer. I like this color calibrator you used. It works pretty similar to a color analyzer such as using the cyan channel for exposure. This video will help many of those who want to print color in their darkroom.

Great video with alote of information🙏🏻🙏🏻 ( can you show us someday how to use the easel to get a different spacing and borders- or shifting the photo upward a bit) couse it is really confusing to me😅🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

hey - have you ever tried printing using small increments of developer per print and then discarding the small increments? i realize you simply use the full volume over and over again until it exhausts, but i'm curious if you have experience the other way?

You mean using RA4 for one shot use? For my drum and this size of the print it's just trowing away chemicals. You need 50 ml for one run, so it means you can make only 10 runs from 500 ml, and i make 45-50 runs. Modern chemistry for RA4 industrially use and it's designed as replenished chemistry in R2R systems, so with special "additional solutions" you can use same chemistry for years. But this is also not why i'm using 500ml solutions - mostly it's temperature stability. If you use small bottles - you almost don't have thermal capacity, so your time will be sucking temperature, also it's just not practical to make solutions in my case.

Is it possible to just use the cyan filter instead of fiddling with the magenta and yellow?

Hello, I’m thinking about getting one of those Phillips analyzers. Actually I’ve seen some announced but there is no lens diffuser (under the lens) Is that normal? Don’t they com with one? Any clue how they should be? By the way, great content. Keep it up. Thank you for all the detailed info

Diffuser should be in the box, but you can replace it with any type of raw diffused plastics, it's just blending picture in one, so put filter close to the lens and calibrate on this picture. But, bw I'm working in the background on new color calibrator for darkroom, so probably in future it will be alternatives to old technology. And thx for support!

@@NordicLab thank you again. Very interested in that calibrator you are mentioning. I guess that Heliand electronics from Germany has some aquitment for that matter, but very expensive. Please share your knowledge about it. Your videos are so interesting

Do You reuse RA 4 developer and how much dev you put in drum for small test strips? I have almost same Jobo drum, mine takes 120ml developer, but i was wondering if i can get away with much smaller amounts

Sure, i reuse it up to 50 times, and make 500 ml solutions

There is no role fr using all 3 subtractive primaries it wastes and is a grey tone and also base liners can carry on without any electronic a costly accessories even if a colour filter drawer tupe type starting days enlargers are uses...handy guide is to use Kodak colour filter finder kit even if it is nt to use but subtractive colours sets fr a colour filter drawer enlargers are uses these filters does the same job as Kodaks finder kit.....dry the print now use filters from filter box see through it to match a white balance or an effect one Jay liking then use either two or single such glass mounted filters as final print exposure corrections are usually marked at the edge of such filters or go fr oanother test...bt authors electronic analyzer no doubt more scientific approach which has role in jana branch like as the forensic where a perfect white balance is a must and performs by the underlying and famous integrations to the gray theories.where when 3 colours produces a neutral gray stated to be a right white balance and a scientifically TRUE print . Tweaking of course possible bt that branch may get the art form of printing . Thanks the author fr every thing on colour printing in a short durations nomostey sir dada

@@NordicLab having all three adjustments used creates neutral density light as they cancel each other out. E.G you are increasing exposure without changing color correction giving the illusion of change. Start at 50y 60m and make adjustments to cyan ONLY if you run out of adjustments in the other two.
