Merhaba zainab. Here's how to do it briefly: Use clitic dA (two-way vowel harmony, written separately) when you want to negate a sentence with "either". For instance, Ben de Istanbul'a gitmedim. (I didn't go to Istanbul, either./I haven't been to Istanbul, either.) "Neither" uses double "dA". Here's how, Sen de ben de bu isi basaramadik. (Neither you nor I have succeeded at this job.) Notice the placement of the clitic dA. It's replaced immediately after the parts of speech to be negated. Does it make sense? Anladiniz mi?

Amerikalıyım can also mean im american. It refers to the nationality of the people. People from Turkey are Turkish, People from US are called as ‘Amerikalı’ which gives us the information about the person’s birth place or nationality. However, ‘-den/-dan’ means ‘from’ you’re right, the emphasis here is the nationality of the people not the country. I hope this explanation helps.

I have a question. Why Istanbul takes apostrophe??
@LearnTurkishwithMuki
3 жыл бұрын
When you attach a case marker to a proper noun, you use an apostrophe between the last letter of the noun and the first letter of the marker. A proper noun is, as you are most likely familiar, the name of a unique place, person, object. Using apostrophe in this case is only for proper spelling and writing purposes. It does not affect how the noun is pronounced. You read it as if the apostrophe doesn't exist.
