I'm 35 and officially learned how to walk . I'm 6'6 and from NYC so I grew up walking fast and taking long strides . The tips on shortening my stride and planting my heel and front foot evenly changed the game

I'm 72 and relearning how to walk. I'm 4'10" and walk fast with long strides and walk on cobblestone streets. I haven't driven since 1973! 3 weeks ago I got a stone bruise and realized that I was pronating that was worsening my pain. I also have Morton's foot, so all this info has really helped me to heal. Gracias for all your help, Brad and Bob.

Dear Bob and Brad. You may not believe this, but about 2 weeks ago I started walking exactly the way you described. What an intuition! I'm 87 and I can now easily 2 miles. Thank for the video.

Why shouldn't you be able to move like a child at the age of 90? I want such results. Why can't I get them? If you want them, feel free to test me, because it's really time for a change. It's time to start from walking. Then there's the flight to the heights.
Wow, I spent 11 years in a marching band that taught "heel to toe" religiously. But, this correct way, which undoes decades of muscle memory, looks very legit when one understands the mechanics behind plantar fasciitis.

Me: Hmm...I should probably teach myself to walk properly again after these ankle and shin splint issues. Bob and Brad 12 hours later:
WOW does this work! I do maintenance in a large facility and log over 20,000 steps in a 5-hour shift. Heel pain was crushing me. Over the last week, the stretches and the walking with a shorter stride and paying attention to how my foot strikes the ground is making a big difference.

I’m actually glad you mentioned fore-foot walking, because I do that a lot when walking down hill. And I think that’s what’s been causing it to flair up
What helped me, mentally, to walk more evenly on my feet, was to imagine that I was walking up a level flight of stairs, if that makes sense, haha. Helps a lot in getting the glutes engaged too.

This is sad it’s Monday and I’ve gotta go work at this hotel 5 days 2 days isn’t enough for a weekend. I’ve been here striking and limping all through the Marriott I feel disabled this pain is true agony.
@BobandBrad I've never been so grateful for having watched a video. I have developed very bad PF over the past year, and lately I've started walking on my heels because I thought it would take pressure off the fascia -- but the pain was just getting worse and worse (and I was starting to get pain in my hip flexors and knees too, which makes sense given the explanation from the video!). I feel so silly now, but I'm so glad I saw this video so I can stop doing that ASAP! THANK YOU!
15 years old and struggled with plantar fasciitis since around 10 years old but couldn't figure out how to stop the pain other than wearing insoles.. I am short so I tend to take long strides with extended legs. Thank you I will start to do this.
Thanks guys wow - u only uploaded this at the perfect time - Ive been in pain last week - thankyou xxx From London
Thank you guys for putting this out for free. Truly grateful for the knowledge you're imparting. I've always had a feeling my plantar fasciitis was a result of how I was walking. Getting more information on the mechanics of walking has me excited to try it out. Thank you for not being like my last Podiatrist and only recommending that I buy a $300 pair of inserts and telling me that there was nothing else I can do.

Hi guys, Also, people have a tendency to not flex at the hips when they walk, which promotes that straight legged gait. So lifting the leg at the hips with each step (exaggerating this as if marching can help develop this more proper gait) puts the foot in a better position when it hits the ground. 😊

I love the Bob and Brad jingle!
Best way I explain this to people is try walking or running barefoot and hard surfaces. You'll naturally land more evenly and won't strike heel first.
Thank you. Just what I have been looking for.
Thank you! I'm new with this problem
Gorrammit! No wonder I’ve been making minimal progress with my stupid foot over the past few years! Thanks guys!
Thank You just walked 6 parking lots = over 1 a mile for 70 year old in pain...but I feel better now!💗

Excellent advice.
Why have I not looked this up years ago?! Growing up my mom was always frustrated that I would walk through the heels of all my shoes within a few months. Now I have plantar fasciitis and I’m willing to do anything to help this pain lol
I’m a toe walker, thats why I’m here! Thanks for remember the few of us I guess lol
For consideration: better than leaning forward, keep--like they said--most of the stride behind you, as in skating. Keep pelvis, ribcage and head vertically aligned, and think about generating propulsion, as in skating, with the glutes and posterior leg muscles, while letting the other leg swing forward naturally. Then the front legs lands at closer to a vertical angle which allows for a better weight distribution in the footstrike.
Thank you!
I live below some heel strikers and was starting to have some concerns for their knees, etc. This should be common knowledge!
So helpful!!! Thank you.
Thanks again for another great video!
I live in an upstairs apartment and am up all night, so I walk very small steps and on my forefoot mostly now out of habit. But it’s helped my arches
Love you guys!
Thank you for this enlightenment...🙃
Sit up straight in a chair! Now lean forward when you walk. I found that leaning forward helps me to shift more weight to the front and away from the heel.
Thank you
I somehow became a forefoot walker and didn't realize it until metatarsal pain became intense. I recall being a heel striker in youth. I tried to fix it through metatarsal padding in slippers and inserts ... I've started to concentrate on trying to get my heel to strike at all, good you mentioned this at the end, guess I'm a rarity lol I will try to focus on more even placement now. I did lose almost 200 lbs, that might have played into it a bit. I did buy running shoes, I am flat footed 10.5 5E, 4E running shoes have a soft enough upper that I don't get squished toes. I was also wearing a size too big for a while. I used the Dr schols assessment thing you stand on to get accurate enough measurements of my feet, chose shoe size accordingly. It also shown I stand primarily on 70%+ on the balls of my feet as well. (It also suggested their strongest insert). Working with this knowledge, I've been trying to consciously shift my standing weight more to my heels as well. I was having a ton of foot and leg issues, starting to see progress. IT band tightness loosening, calf pain reducing, metatarsal pain mostly gone, plantar issues mostly gone, still a lot of tightness, but less constant pain, discomfort, easier to walk and stand longer. Thank you for the video, I will make sure I don't overcorrect to too much heel in everything. I was starting to think this was just life after 40, everyone says you hurt more, but I couldn't stand or walk some days, now I have more hope for a less painful future.

hope this will help me. I'm 23 and I've been looking for ways to walk correctly all the time. When I was younger my parents told me that I look like I might fall over and it is a bad stigma (because I was toe walking I think) when I change to heel walking though my feet hurt all the time. Not just my feet but my ankles and knees are also severely affected. Glad to know that heel walking is not the correct way or else I may think that I am the only one have problem with heel walking.

Hello bob and brad! Because the calcanius is the most dense bone in the body, shouldn’t it take the majority of the force? Can you explain a bit more your thinking of walking more flat footed? A side note, I tried your simple taping method before my walk yesterday and also wore it to bed, and for the first time in several months I didn’t wake up in the middle of the night with top of the foot pain! Thank you! 🙏🏼

The muscle memory of marching band has not left me - especially going heel-toe on long strides when I walk fast - and it feels instinctively wrong to sort of shuffle the feet. But the heel pain is intense so I'll give it a go

Have you had a MRI? I didn't until recently, and I found that I actually FRACTURED a main bone in foot. Now, few years later, I've having something like plantar fasciitis. So not sure if it's PF or a small stress fracture in my foot. Hurts like a Mo-Fo. I am counting the minutes until I can find a way to get it to heal fully. Wearing a fracture boot to help it heal.

I’m a forefoot walker apparently it’s what’s giving me lower back ache as my glutes aren’t engaging correctly and I’m not getting the push off needed when going forward…so a video how to correct this would be helpful actually. And I’m nearly 40 not a little kid 😂

Othee people: Why u walk like that? Me: do you have a problem bish
Lean forward like a ninja
Chi walking is similar to the way children walk and is best... And I suggest 30 to 40 percent or less heel strike is better at preventing low back pain . Shoes weaken the ankles, knees and hips and cause low back pain. Spend several hours a day walking in barefoot style shoes or socks if you can't go full barefoot and stretch daily for full range of motion.
I work as a dog walker and have developed very painful PF. I’m having PT, but so far that seems to actually be making it worse. I’m sleeping in special boots to keep my foot at the right angle, plus using various types of roll out devices and heating equipment. I’m stretching and also taking Advil and arnica. I depend on dog walking for my income and feel so discouraged. What else can I do to recover? Thanks for any ideas!
So.. I’ve hurt my knee and I’ve been walking with a straight leg for about 4 days now, and I’ve forgotten how to walk help
That explains why I am walking so much slower . I naturally started walking this way.
