    "Most aircraft of the era used cables and pulleys to operate their controls. The cables tended to stretch, resulting in sensation of give and play that made controls less crisp and responsive, and required constant maintenance to correct. For FW-190 design, the team replaced the cables with rigid pushrods and bearings to eliminate the problem(...)". FW-190 was designed in the way, that would let maintain and fly the fighter after short training.

    Would you ever consider making a video or two that caters for those of us with no previous flight knowledge? Even some of your most basic ones so far contain language or knowledge that I just don't have. Even just taking us through all of the different controls we definitely need and when to use them. Fantastic videos by the way.

    Peter Hyder Hi Peter, do you mean something like explaining the basics of how the stick and rudder affects flight, aerodynamic forces, ground handling, what a circuit is, etc? I could quite easily make some videos catered to those with no previous knowledge about this sort of stuff. Or are you looking for something which covers how to use all of these together during a flight as well. The latter would be doable, but it would be pretty long as I would probably use an entire flight trying to talk through what I'm doing and when.

    I think both would be greatly appreciated as the community grows. A sort of "flight school" video or series of videos if you see what I mean. I have learned all that I have purely through trial and error, estimations and crashing. It isn't nearly enough to cope with a flight model as advanced as I have found within BoS. Obviously this is quite a bit of work for you, but I think it would be well appreciated hehe!

    The Air Combat Tutorial Library For the really basic instructional videos turning on the technochat might make it easier to see what exact inputs you are using at what time. The IAS and alt indicator could be of help too though one could just look at the cockpit gauges for those. These videos are handy though, many thanks.

    Very nice video as usual, I have a couple of questions if that's ok: -Are you making one for the He-111? -And which do you think is a better plane, the FW-190A3 or the BF-09G2? -What manifold pressure setting should I be using for the FW-190 and He-111? I find that if I leave the throttle at half way (50% power) with auto prop pitch, the engines blow up. I know the He-111 doesn't have auto prop pitch so I just put it at a normal climb setting but the engine still dies and sprays oil everywhere? It would be great if you could help :D

    ***** - Yes I'm making one for the He-111. - I like the Fw 190 A-3 better since it suits my flying style more than the G2. - For the He-111, I don't remember the numbers right now, but when you look at the RPM and MP gauges picture them as a clock face. Place the needles on both gauges at the 12 oclock position. - For the Fw 190 A-3, to be safe, just use the engine at 1.2 while climbing. I've ver rarely had troubles with my engine blowing up in the German aircraft, and the times I have it was only at high altitudes where I set the ata too high.

    EDIT after 5 years: 0:41 actually, it's just the other way around. "Kopflastiger" = nose down (lit: head-/front-heavier), "Schwanzlastiger" = nose up (lit: tail-heavier). Automatic startup-sequence... hmmm... so is there a way to start the engine manually (à la DCS)? Pressing I and having the game at least perform all the necessary steps is nice, but I'd love to do "cold starts" myself.

  • @RequiemsACTL

    Benjamin Frint I don't understand why it is breaking then. The thing with the 109s is that its easiest just to leave it on automatic and use your throttle. Down low keep the ata below 1.3, but up higher as the ata falls you need to keep RPM below 25-2600 because if you use full throttle up higher to keep the ata high technically you are on the emergency setting and it will break the engine. If you have the simple gauges on then keep throttle use below about 85% then the engine shouldn't break.

    Hey NickNico, it's not just about the power so a couple of things. Remember to keep the stick pulled back to engage the tailwheel lock. If you keep it unlocked it can make turns easier, but this also makes it harder to stay straight. Another option which will help you is to use manual propeller pitch control and set it to the 12 o'clock position while taxiing. This will give you a more constant feel to your power setting and help with controllability.

    So why is there no attitude indicator/artificial horizon in the FW-190? Sure with the VSI, air speed, turn and bank and the altimeter you can roughly work out attitude by its not easy. From my knowledge I believe they existed in the second world war. If someone could enlighten me that would be great.

  • @1SaG

    @1SaG

    Early 190s and 109s didn't have artificial horizons or climb/descent indicators. G-2 was the first 109 with artificial horizon IIRC and on the 190 it was probably the A-5 (?) Not sure, but I'm pretty certain the A-3 and A-4 didn't have those more modern instruments.

    Hello, I love WW2 combat flight sims and just got the IL2 Stormovic battle of Stalingrad game. Now I've been playing Aces High3 and WarThunder for over 10 tears now and wanted to get more in depth with a WW2 flight sim so I went ahead and got this one. I can't get it to recognize my joystick and throttle, even my rudder pedals. I do I get it to recognize them. I'm stumped. I'm so eager to get into this one especially the advanced flight controls and such but I'm needing this part so I can. I love the learning curve but I can't figure out to overcome this. Any help would be greatly appriciated!!!

    i actually did! its the "rich" lever. you pull it once before engine start. it'll bring your fuel mixture to fully rich and prop pitch to the default angle. it will also bring the kommandogerät to start-up conditions. though im not 100% sure what that entails... also, this control is obviously not operable in game. unfortunately

    Weird. In my 190 A3 my crosshair is completely off center. As if the pilots head was a bit too much to the left. Anyone having this issue as well? I need to keep correcting my position with track ir to see the crosshair.

  • @RequiemsACTL

    @RequiemsACTL

    5 жыл бұрын

    Well in reality that is how the sight would have looked when you sat in the cockpit. Since most pilots were considered right eye dominant it was offset that way. It wouldn't affect how you used the sight though. If you can imagine this..you would have seen half the crosshair in the sight and the other half in the air due to the offset. That can't really be replicated in a simulator though so you need to move your seat position using the INS HOME DEL PGUP PGDN END keys then pressing F10 to save it.

    The Germans built all kinds of strange things during the war but holding the tailwheel with the stick has to take the cake,been flying this bird for many years and i never get used to that, ha ha ha,a simple switch/lever a la 109 would have been nice, it was probably actually very simple in real life versus a gaming joystick you are pushing against while trying to keep a plane strait on a runway.
