The two most common ways to measure firewood is by the "Full Cord" or "Face Cord". The difference between the two is that a full cord of firewood is an amount of wood that fills a space equal to 8' long x 4' high x 4' deep. A standard length for firewood in a full cord is 16" long and most of the time a full cord of firewood will consist of three rows stacked 4' wide and 8' long. A face cord of firewood is equal to a single stack of firewood that measures 4' high x 8' long by however deep the depth of the firewood is. Log length in a face cord of firewood varies and there is not a standard length.

You weren’t kidding about the fast part
Alright Susan, keep it under 2 minutes. And... Action 🎬
Thank you and I appreciate people who get right to the point. Very good job!
Thank you for covering the info quickly. I often speed up YT videos to 1.25X or 1.5X to get through the content quicker.
Very helpful 👍 Thank you.
Thank you, this is exactly what I wanted to know.
I followed just fine. Thanks for the tips.
Thanks! Very informative for a first-time fireplace owner like me.
Donna, you are awesome
I have watched your other Video with the Log Splitters, I am impressed. Keep up the Good Work!
Excellent help and very well done!
Excellent, and very helpful, and the speed is perfect :)
Very nice
Good info but good thing for rewind!
Thank you.
thanks, slow it down a little.

Does your replay feature not work on free information?
16" is the firewood standard length.
Pennsylvania law requires your typical cut firewood to be “sold by the cord of 128 cubic feet or fraction thereof”.
People that sell firewood out of their back yard look at me dumbfounded when I ask them if they are selling a full cord or a face cord. I shall link this from now on!
Excellent explanation. The added illustration further clarified your point. Firewood for noobs. Thank you.
I think of it as "face is one layer, normal cord goes deeper". If they're selling it as "cord of wood" but it's just one row of wood, they're doing it wrong...
There is no legal definition of a "face" and in Arkansas it is actually illegal to sell by the face cord..
Yep....i need 30 face cords for winter. 2 woodstoves.
The instructor at the college where I earned my Scalers Licence said that face cord is a term made up to take advantage of buyers. Firewood should be sold by the cord or any part of a cord.
How much does 1 face cord of fire wood weigh? I'm talking 4'×8'×16", dry wood, I know it will be approximate, depending.

It verys to much to give a reasonable estimate. Depends on the woods and what condition they are in, how seasoned etc.
Thanks for clearing up a point of confusion for me. Are you talking too fast? Maybe a little, but let me push back on your critics. A person watching a KZread video on a PC can pause a video with one mouse click. It's easy to go partly back, listen one step at a time, pause, maybe take notes and so on. On KZread, it is far more helpful to speak too quickly than too slowly.
What about half cord?
I like her
Whomever you are! Talk slower, don't be nervous!!!!!!!!!!
A full cord is 128 cubic feet of wood. Two stacks of 16 inch pieces don’t make that. 48” x 48” x 96” =221,184 cubic inches. Divide that by 1728 cubic inches in a cubic foot and you get 128 cubic feet. Two stacks of 16 inch pieces only make 85.33 cubic feet of wood
Is there a reason why she is talking so fast? Slow down , thanks.

A face cord
All these years i've been buying ''a cord'' when it's in fact ''a face cord'' which mathematically speaking 1/3 of a full cord... All these old dudes selling me fire wood arent the best in math i rekon...
Isn't it a Rick of Firewood and a cord of Firewood....never heard of a Face Cord
FULL cord is 16 ft wide 2 ft deep 4 foot high.

Lol that's the same thing
She said "16 inches"...
Damn slow down a little bit. Lot of information
You talked too fast. Good info I'm sure but slow it down please.
Gotdamn slow down lol. Let me go find another video
It's funny you'd explain this while robbing people with your crisscross stacking.... You lose a third or more volume doing that bs...
Face cord "There really isn't a specific length".......which is why a 'face cord' is a meaningless measurement. It could be cut 6" in length, stacked 4x8' and I guess you could call that a face cord. Wood should only be bought/sold in a specific volume, such as a cord....128cuft of tightly stacked wood. Or some fraction, such as a 1/2 cord, or 1/3 cord or whatever. In many States, that is the only legal way you can sell it. You don't buy gasoline or milk by 'the bucket'....you buy a known amount...a gallon (or quart/pint/etc for milk)....and a guy from the State comes by and measures the output of gas pumps every so often to make sure you're getting a gallon.

Not really Everything must be the correct size to be very CLOSE to a face cord. "Numbers never lie" Check it out......48" x 96" x 16" equals 73728 inches divided by 1728 inches ( a cubic foot ) equals 42.66 cubic feet. x 3 =- 128 cubic feet a CORD

@@Chuck88keys I don't know what state you live in but according to ARKANSAS BUREAU OF STANDARDS Firewood is sold by a measurement called a "cord" or fractions of the "cord". A seller may not use terms such as "truck load", "face cord", "rick" or "pile". A cord must equal 128 cubic feet. To be sure you have a cord, stack the wood neatly by placing the wood in a line or a row, with individual pieces touching and parallel to each other, making sure the wood is compact and has as few gaps as possible. Then measure the stack. If the width times the height times the length equals 128 cubic feet, you have a cord of firewood

@@Chuck88keys If a full cord is 48"X48"X96" = 128 cubic feet. 4ftx4ftx8ft. A face cord by your example is 4ftx8ftx1.33ft = 42.56 cubic ft! still is approximately a 1/3 of a real cord. Based on a 16 inch cut length. But not all face cords are equal to the cut length of 16". If cut in 12" lengths, you get 32 cubic ft. times 3 is 96 cubic ft! Unless you get 4. Then it is 128 cubic ft! So your point is foggy to me?

@@williamwilson5521 You'd be freaking out buying firewood in Ohio then. Hell they sell small bundles in the gas station for $6.00 In the cabin rental tourist areas they sell it in 20" X 20" X 16" cubical boxes for $20.00 They sell it by the load, by the pile, by the cord by the bucket and even by the piece for 50 cents each if you want.
