In the video, I show how to clean an electronic throttle body on my Cadillac STS and Cadillac Escalade. I use throttle body and air-intake cleaner from CRC to cut through the built-up carbon on both.
For best results take your car throttle off the intake manifold and disconnect from the wire harness. Then spray CRC throttle body cleaner on the throttle in a well-ventilated area while wiping with a clean towel. Repeat until you have a clean shine.
If your car is shifting funny you might want to change the TPS ( Throttle position sensor) and if your car is idling high or low you might want to change the IAC (Idle air control valve)

There is this guy on KZread cleaning the throttle body with the car running and spray directly into the throttle body there is a little hole just before the throttle body opening so he could stick that red tip in it and just spray while the car is running and spray through the intake and he says it cleans the valves

@@mattsalazar9402 it all depends on what code popped up on your dash. This has turned off my light before and poured in injection cleaners has turned it off before. Just depends on what is causing your check engine light. But this is pretty much free and easy. Thanks for watching.

Paul Kolazinski just make sure that you change your pcv to prevent blow by and keep air filter in great shape, use lots of good fuel injector cleaner to prevent clogged injector wich will fualt out your plugs creating smog/carbon build up again!!!

I have a 91 Chrysler LeBaron with a 3.0L Mitsubishi engine. The Idle air control module is bad, so I ordered a replacement. The car is in good shape but has a lot of miles on it so I decided to do the whole job and clean everything. Your video is aces! Since my throttle body is mechanical, I'll remove it like you did to clean it. I suspect when I'm finished the car will idle and accelerate a whole lot better. Thank you for your help. It is most appreciated. Stay well in this terrible virus situation.

Great video! I tried cleaning the throtle body yesterday and gave up because I opened up the wrong side ( air filter housing side) it didn't look like a throtle body was in there plus it was getting dark outside. Before taking my car to the dealership I came across your video and now I'm more confident about doing the job myself. You saved me hundreds!!! Thank you!!

great video, you explain it very well. With all due respect I would like to add: be sure to cover the intake hole after you remove the throttle body, if you drop anything down into the engine, ie screw driver, nut, bolt, etc. you will have to get a knew engine or take your engine totally apart to retrieve said item. Again, great video, well done.

Thanks for the video. My suv has an electronic throttle body and I didn’t realize there was a difference. Also I’m glad you’re wearing gloves and a mask. agreed, though in all fairness, a surgical mask does nothing for aerosol/fumes and vapours (or viruses for that matter). You would need to wear a respirator to block such fumes. It does help with larger particles , dust , etc. Great video!

I would like to expand on what you said about "you can snap your finger" if you leave the throttle body pugged into the vehicle, it could energize in "ice break mode" if it does this it will close driven by the reduction gears and it could cut your finger severely. Your video is spot on, I just want others to know the danger for leaving it in circuit. Thanks!

Had surging problems with my car in cruise-control or normal driving particularly in the cold. Took it to two Dealers who service my make of car and they said they didn't know what the problem was other then to clean the injectors. Did the old youtube check and came across this, I did the clean and the car ran heaps better. Then I saw the Mass Air Flow sensor clean and cleaned that also and the car is running perfectly. Goes to show not all people who work at Dealers know their cars, and obviously saved myself a heap of dollars.

Thanks for the video. Could you please show all the steps for removing the throttle body that has the spring?

Gemini Love I'm sorry I don't have that vehicle anymore. But all you do is remove the three or four bolts and then your throttle body will be able to detach. If you don't want to take the cable part off just tilt the throttle body to the side you can spray the front and back wipe it down. If your gasket needs to be changed put a new gasket on reattach it and then you're done. I appreciate you watching if you have anymore questions feel free to ask thanks.

After disassembling and cleaning the throttle, an idle defect may occur, therefore an idle adjustment process must be performed after cleaning, there are several methods depending on the type of vehicle. Also, it is important to lubricate the moving parts of the throttle by using WD40.
