Learn Kanji With The Migaku Method - Beginners Part 2: The First Kanji, Mnemonics & Reviews

And we are back with part 2 of our short “How To Learn Kanji With The Migaku Method” series. This time we go over three topics: How to conquer the first few kanji, mnemonics and how to review your cards.
Kanji will be a constant challenge during your Japanese studies, so getting the first steps right can make a huge difference down the line. With the first video and this video as well, we hope that we can provide you with the knowledge necessary for you to conquer this and make the rest of your journey as easy as possible. The experience you gain from this will also help you to deal with any kanji related problems that may (or may not) arise down the line.
We will cover the different applications of the addon for advanced learners in a future video.

When it comes to studying kanji from. The recognition deck that the kanji god add on makes for me am I just to remember the basic meaning of the primitive kanji ? Or both oonyomi and kuunyomi of them or just 1 reading ?

Only the basic meaning. The reading comes from learning words.

At 5:39 a card is shown. Is this how all the automatically created kanji cards look like by default? With stroke order animation and stuff? That would be awesome!

I completed "recognition" on the first thousand Kanji from the matt vs japan era deck that was made, but although I still review the few cards I get daily I've noticed I've forgot most of them when not in the context of a word in a sentence I know. I feel like it might be worth it for me to try the new migaku method but I have already finished the JLPT N4 and N5 decks months ago, Would you guys recommend starting them again with this new kanji learning feature to iron out my weak spots or should I just keep brute forcing sentence mining?

Don't redo the decks, but try using our new add-on alongside the sentences you're mining.

Why does it say on your patreon "Join now for $45 per month?" That price isn't in the tier list, but it's the first one you see in the middle of the screen when you click on the patreon link to the Kanji GOD addon. Will I still be able to test out this addon if I pay $5 per month?

Tbh, i still dont get the point of learning kanji out of context. Context being the word. Just learn the words in the kanji theyre written? Same as every other reading card in your anki deck? Maybe im missing something

Context understood as Sentence Cards is not recommended for the beginners, it's better to learn from word-word cards on early stages and then on sentence cards later

@@wiktorwolf8381 So why not just word-word cards without doing additional practice on any individual kanji that arent usually a word when alone? I just have seen so many ways people tackle "kanji" when i dont see any reason to invest any substantial amount of time to it outside of your (hopefully already planned) reading studies. It is very different than western writing systems but the time invested into reading practice/anki should be adequate enough to get used to kanji as a writing system without additional study on characters themselves that are only practically used within words and sentences

I originally started just trying to learn kanji in context through vocab. There will come a point where you confuse similar kanji or just stait up forget what some kanji are. Also learning a useless kanji like 尺 can help you remember useful kanji like 訳

@@mikemustmurder hmm i can see that. I just figured getting kanji mixed up and forgetting some completely was inevitable so after about a couple weeks of lazy rrtk i just stopped worrying about it and started learning kanji within the words as they came up. Im about 1 yr in and 8k "known" on morphman now so I may be past the point for getting much practical use from changing alot but I do like to think about the optimal path one might take. Maybe only out of fear that mine might be a terribly sub-optimal path haha.

Honestly can’t believe people really spend time created ridiculous stories to learn something that ain’t even that complicated. Once you’ve learnt a couple of hundred through flashcards, you will be more easily able to learn new characters due to familiarity. Then just use words with kanji in them which you will have to do anyway to learn the pronunciation.

If you can do that, go for it. I have seen enough people that have problems with different approaches. Be it using mnemonics, or going without it, or doing no specific kanji practice at all. So this is just one of the tools you can use. If you feel like you don't need it and can get by just fine, then obviously there is no need to spend time on it.
