Theatre... What is the purpose? I would rather juggle three tennis balls for eye hand coordination

You could juggle three tennis balls all day but it won’t give you the sickening pair of bulbous glutes and meaty hamstrings women crave.

To ask with the word purpose isn't necessary. In early times when kettlebells were working class farm weights in Russia, juggling them was a cultural activity. The earliest form of movement using them. They are for BOTH strength and conditioning because of its shape

have you tried it? it takes a much different level of muscle control to do this. im nearly losing balance after every catch. so, it works differe t muscles and incorporates timing and focus. plus, its fun!

I saw a guy at my (somewhat crowded) gym doing step 1 for a few minutes but then he dropped the kettleball and it almost landed on his foot. He promptly stopped doing the exercise but if he had continued, no doubt someone would have complained and got him booted. Not surprised this type of exercise is promoted at a CrossFit gym. A lot of style and injury risk for very little fitness benefit.

You have to admit it's impressive and does require a lot of strength and technique. It may not be the most practical thing ever but it is challenging

Crossfit? I hate that stuff but the gym here seems to be used for many things involving movement. I do real calisthenics strength exercises and the gymnastics rings are something I started getting into in 2020. I started using kettlebells to rehab my back as they are great for strengthening the core which is the most important area people seem to neglect (the core is the center where energy is produced as I learned in Tai Chi 8 years ago). All of the stuff I see here would be good for overall health. What they have in so-called Crossfit gyms I've already been doing for many years to lose weight and challenge myself.

I just watched step 1 and looked at your comment again. It sounds like that guy in your gym was being stupid and not doing it correctly. Kettlebell swings are my main back strengthening exercise currently and I've never dropped it on my foot since I stand with my feet apart and I'm very safe (safe enough to do it in my apartment building with wood flooring, I adjusted my swing so I don't switch hands as much as I would outside though and I have never dropped it indoors). If you don't have the sense and reflexes to move your foot in time if the bell slips then you shouldn't be doing this exercise. If that guy was being an idiot with the Kettlebell and continued then I agree that someone should say something about it. If he was just learning how to do it correctly while being as safe as possible and only dropped it once then you're overreacting if you try to kick him out. Again it depends how he was behaving but if you're correct he was being stupid. Edit: I just want to add that I don't do flips with the Kettlebell. I do basic swings up and between my legs and since I'm doing it in my apartment these days, I only switch hands after doing 10 reps instead of switching hands every rep like I did outside on grass or at the gym. I don't toss the bell into the air. I have my receiving hand on it before releasing my other hand to insure I don't drop it and disturb my neighbors below me and damage the floor. Daring here in this video does do the flips safely and correctly so this is something I'd practice on grass outside before doing it at the gym.
