Learn how Children are Treated by Australia's Racist Criminal Justice System

First Nations kids in Australia are 26 times more likely to be incarcerated than other kids. But why?
All of the experts agree - prison is no place for a child. It doesn’t address the causes of their behaviour, and it doesn’t reduce recidivism.
Instead, when a child comes into contact with the criminal justice system they enter a never-ending cycle of trauma, harm and violence. This shameful reality is even greater for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, who are 26 times more likely than their peers to be incarcerated. So what’s the alternative?
It's called justice reinvestment.
Justice reinvestment is led by the community, for the community. Instead of failed punitive approaches, justice reinvestment is evidence-based. It embraces therapeutic and rehabilitative methods that address the underlying causes of problematic behaviour in children, in order to improve it - diverting them away from the criminal justice system.
Call on the Australian government to fund justice reinvestment programs:

Hey Amnesty International. Where is your statement on the 83 Russian missiles that were launched on Ukraine today? I thought I would at least see a denouncement of Ukraine for destroying some of Russia's Missiles before they hit their targets. Maybe you haven't seen the check from Putin yet for supporting that stance. I am sure it is on the way.

Do they commit more crime on average? Although I find it hard to believe it would be 26 times higher.

Yes they do and it is easily more than 26 times higher, it truly is horrific. Don’t listen to this biased documentary and come live with them and find out yourself.

If they do commit more crimes perhaps that committal is closely linked to social injustice. Real welfare programmes are the way forward. 👍

Why would you want to punch his face in? Seriously, the Roos are overpopulated. It’s not like they’re out hunting pandas. They are the American version of deer which can be problematic without human hunting occurring. We can choose to hunt animals that aren’t endangered with a lot of justification.

This is simply not correct. It is proportional as to the extent and seriousness of the juvenile crimes. Putting juveniles into protective care is a very last option for Australian courts. A 17 year old juvenile who rapes a young child or kills an innocent family in a stolen vehicle being driven recklessly, usually after multiple offences, should be in prison. The Australian legal systems is very lenient on all crimes. This is not a race issue, the issue is out of control juvenile crime, a lack of support for police who have to deal with juveniles who could not care less about what crimes they are committing or who gets hurt.

No, they’re just watched more. They’re surveilled more. They’re provoked more. They’re incited more. They’re harassed more. White kids do the same crimes. They’re just treated better because they’re white. Youth criminals are institutionalised and then they adapt to the environment they’re placed in. If you do the crime you do the time but even an adult gets better treatment in jail especially if you’re white than some if not most First Nations people. Why do non indigenous people have to hit below the belt whenever FN people state facts? They don’t want special treatment they just want equal and fair treatment like everyone else. Why is that so hard for people to comprehend.
