French TV shows offer an excellent way to get used to listening to and understanding real, everyday French. But if you’re relatively new to French, or if you’re trying to re-learn the language after several years (or even decades), a show that is entirely in French may feel a little bit overwhelming.
So, today I want to introduce you to a brilliant miniseries that is delivered in both English and French: Irma Vep. This adaptation of a 1996 movie of the same name was created for the streaming platform HBO, and has been highly praised by critics since it premiered at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
Let’s analyze a short scene together, so you can practice understanding modern spoken French - and perhaps discover a new favorite series!
Take care and stay safe.

Merci Géraldine!! for your hard work and for all you do to keep on teaching us French.
best videos for learning, thanks!
Merci beaucoup ,prof.J’ai appris beaucoup de vocabulaires et expressions de ce vidéo clip.
Thank you so much for breaking it down in such detail, I'm sure after many years you see that all these minor changes from formal to everday French are not intuitive for English speakers learning French. So we need it!
Que Legal ver vc novamente Geraldine. Você está cada vez mais bonita 🌹e também com uma dicção mais clara e de melhor compreensão. 👍
I really love your teaching methods! Thank you!
Irma Vep is a show now? I was going to act all smug because I had already seen the film! :(

@@Commeunefrancaise merci !
When they started speaking, I had to turn off my fan. Any bit of background noise makes it impossible for me to even begin to have a chance to understand spoken French.
Bonjour, madame. A propos de rien... I struggle with "ceci" and "cela". Suffixes -ci, -la Par example: "Il faut qu'on soit prudent [dans?] ces jours." Ou bien: "Il faut qu'on soit prudent ces jours-ci." Pareils, ou non? "You (or better, 'One") had to be careful in those days" (le shee-ka-go!) "Faudrait qu'on soyait prudent dans ces jours-la" I struggle with the nuances. Do you have a video that I may have missed? I enjoy your videos immensely. Thank you! (kindly forgive the absence of diacritics (accents graves, aigus. My bad.)

Bonjour. Indeed, you will be able to add "-ci" or "-là" to refer to these or those, this or that, respectively.
