    @pazaj0 sorry :) I only picked countries that I knew people wanted.. maybe some other time I'll made a video with all the countries, but it'd take a long time!! We say "Polen". Pronounced sort of like "Poland" in England, but without the D at the end :)

    If you paid attention to the video, I actually explain at the beginning that I based my choice of countries on statistics about where people were watching my videos at the time.

    So may I ask something, when you say Noord Amerika, in "Noord" you roll the R similarly to the english pronunciation, however in "Amerika" R sound more similar to the German r sound. Is there any rule on how you say r in dutch depending on the words? ir it is just however you hear it? Thanks!

    Yay! U did one for my country! What is the shortcut for "e" with double dot on top of it? Like one in Maleisie?

  • @dutchforn00bs
    @dutchforn00bs13 жыл бұрын

    @TheFropsy we say " Tsjechie" (with dots on the final E, but I can't do that with this keyboard). the beginning is pronounced like the "cze" in "czech" , the "ch" is a G sound (in the back of your throat, the sort of scraping sound), and "ie" in this case is pronounced like "ia" in eg australia :)

    @ZeldaWindWaker50 Holland is an area in the Netherlands (Noord-Holland and Zuid-Holland are 2 of our provinces). It's been the most populated, and economically most successful part of the country for a few centuries now, which (I think) is why lots of people know the entire country as Holland. I don't mind either name, but it's true that some people don't like Holland as a name.. since they don't really live there :) It's similar to telling a Scottish person he lives in England.

    @jeeschav thank you!! :D I probably won't make that video any time soon, because I've already made this one :) There's so many other things I want to do, as well ^_^ We do pronoune the N at the end of ZIJN, yes. Sometimes when words end in '-en', like 'hebben' we don't pronounce the 'n' as much --> so it becomes 'hebbe'. It's always correct to pronounce it, though, so I think it's easier to just remember that ;D

    @xSebzx I only started learning Swedish because I took a year off from school (between high school and uni), and I got super frustrated not learning things :D So then when I did start uni about a year ago, I had enough other stuff to think about/learn and I stopped :) I have been to Sweden! Just for about a week, though.

    @harboee No, I'm Dutch (see flag. and the language I'm speaking). The heart for Swedish was because I was learning Swedish at the time :D As for learning Dutch in a year.. because Swedish and Dutch are pretty similar, it should be possible to get a good grasp of written Dutch in a couple of months. Learning to speak it, though, is a lot harder. I think if you study really hard, and practice a lot it should be possible to understand&talk to people in a year :)

    @jlspma Within a word, NG is *always* pronounced as ng in "king", unlike g in English "finger", where you hear a g (voiced k) after the ng sound. If the n is coming from a prefix the g is pronounced separately from the n, like in "ongeveer" (=about).

  • @dutchforn00bs

    as this vid is old now somebody has probably said this to you before but we do the same with "ë" (plus ï and ö) in english sometimes too, and it has the same function as in dutch. Examples, coöperation, preëxisting, naïve, Noël etc. Both languages got it from french, although in english we have the option of using a hyphen instead aswell to do the same thing, depends on region and personal preference. As you're presenting in english, the end bit is probs not needed, as we already know it.
