Learn Beach Volleyball Hand Setting Easily (Part 3/7)

Спорт

There are a lot of rules regarding the beach volleyball hand set that make the possibilities to make illegal contacts big, at the same time as it is one of the more valuable skills to have in beach volleyball. Some people decide to never learn it, while others see the future rewards and tackle it head on - sometimes with a lot of frustration as a result. In this beach volleyball hand setting mini-series I will share some of the best hacks (that I never see anyone else teach!) for learning the beach volleyball handset as quickly, easily and frustration-free as possible. Once you apply these strategies, don't be surprised if you within a few weeks start having a hand set that actually works better than your bump set... and you'll be wondering why you didn't learn this way earlier! :)
This is part 3, where we take a look at two crucial mindsets for learning the hand set. Get these two wrong and you might as well not bother practicing to hand set!

I truly learned about how better competition makes you better through table tennis(many people here call it ping pong). Though, in many cases there may need to be a nuanced approach to this, especially for beginners, people who aren't sure if they could be anything but terrible at something, and cocky people who don't realize they're not very good(or that there's always someone better). The nuance might not be necessary for people who have been surrounded by people that that taught them good habits, sportsmanship, humility, and open mindedness. In competitive situations, if someone plays someone far beyond their skill level, they may get discouraged and not play anymore or only play opponents they're sure they can beat. Volleyball, table tennis and basketball are my 3 favorite sports to play. When I started table tennis I played a friend that had decades of experience on me and I lost over and over. I ended up playing table tennis at a rec center I played basketball at a few days a week against people of all skill levels and won and lost but got way better than I was, pretty quickly. When I went back to my other friends place he was so upset he couldn't beat me I understood he never played people better than him... he no longer wanted to play.

True. Playing against better people is a crucial component of getting better. I do come into beach volleyball with a bias from not having played it as a kid and starting as an adult with tons of inefficient mechanics, so I pretty quickly reached a plateau from just playing and had to start breaking the skills down and rebuild how I did them at a more fundamental level. So that for me has been probably more important to me so far in my journey than playing against better opponents. However, I believe now that I am more or less happy with my fundamental skills, playing more and more games against opponents of many different skill levels will become a more and more important part of my journey. I also acknowledge that someone who picked the sport up at a younger age and sort of "came to" adulthood with good fundamental mechanics, reaction times and muscle functions, will probably experience that playing games is "the secret" to becoming good to a bigger extent than me. Does this ramble make sense? :)
