This guy is a phenomenal educator. He feels like the British Mr. Rogers on bass.
This is EXACTLY what I needed. Plucking technique for someone who has never done it before. Haven't really put my bass down since I got it 4 days ago. Thanks alot for setting me on the right path.

Quick tip: The difference between "Playing" and "How to Play" is like the difference between Driving and How to Drive. At a certain point, an experienced driver no longer focuses on what their legs and hands do, but instead on looking at the mirrors, checking for "hidden" pedestrians that might pop into the road and generally becoming more aware of their surroundings.

@@dscdrkel5546 Dude, dude man calm down, that's a lot of yelling... He didn't call his character into question (he's a great teacher and probably cool AF), just his physical appearance. I was going to ask why most bassists look like child predators all skinny, shaved, with blonde hair or frosted tips trying to look young...but now I'm afraid some twit will use caps lock on me! despite the fact that my observation is partly true. You can't just go around caplockin' on people without thinking it through man. Basically it's a joke not a dick, don't take it so hard.

This gentleman does a highly professional job when it comes to not only teaching HOW to play the bass, but how to position your hands properly while actually playing the bass. I haven’t seen many bass teachers get into this stuff like he does.
I am a guitar player picking up bass. The left hand technique feels familiar, but the right had is helluva lot different.

So far every video I've watched I learned something new!
These bass lessons have a very refreshing approach, and the angles of the why behind even the simple parts add a lot to the overall understanding (even the basics) Thanks!
thanks sir for making all of this tutorials, this is a big help for bass begginers like me. GOD bless
I know I'm 7 years too late, but even as an intermediate player, this hand relaxing technique just changed the way I play. I just wanted to thank you
It's amazing how "playing through the strings" immediately improved my sound. I was hitting the strings really hard with the tip of my finger, trying to make them stronger and clearer, but it just ended up sounding muddy. thanks!
Honestly, I am incredibly grateful for these videos! I'm 16 and got my first bass today, and this playlist is really helpful with breaking it down into smaller, less intimidating pieces. And you're also really patient and calm while explaining, which makes it even better ❣️
The way how he speaks about playing the instrument is true poetry. And also very helpful.
You have a very calming voice
Best KZread teacher so far, I've only just picked up bass and have no clue whatsoever so it's great to found someone who teaches from absolute beginner and not just assume eveyone has born with bass on hand lol
I just purchased a bass and was looking for bass lessons on KZread. I came across your lessons and the four I've seen so far are great and helping me to learn about my new bass. Thanks for doing what you do !! Peace
This tutorial is amazing,it’s much better then most tutorials because it’s nice and calm!Good job, keep going
It's very informative and really helpful, all of your lessons cover a great deal of bass basics and the little aspects are finely brought out. These are the best bass tutorials, thank you so much! :D
I have been teaching myself bass for a while thought I would check out a video, I learned so much in 1 video
Just bought my first Bass and your instruction method is really good, simple and very beginner friendly, thanks for uploading such useful lessons
Thank you for this!!! Every beginner lesson out there gives you all the tools you need while assuming that you already know how to pluck... this was exactly what I was looking for. Great video!
Best beginner lessons on KZread. The philosophies described are superb as well as the teaching technique. Diligence will not be unrewarded for anyone who follows this.
I’m American and this is quite possibly the most English / Anglo-Saxon bass guitar tutorial I’ve ever seen. It’s also the best bass guitar tutorial I’ve ever seen. Coincidence? I think not.
Wow! Matt Bellamy, Thom Yorke AND Johnny Rotten in one single person!
First time I see your content. Love your friendliness and attitude towards every type of player!
Very useful. Thank you. I was taught to play a number of years ago, but never learned basic technique, so it fell by the wayside. Now I'm picking it up again and starting from the beginning to make sure I get it right.
Very clear and informative. Thank you very much, God bless you!!! I was looking for tutorials that go step by step and feel very blessed that I found your channel
I just started learning bass a few days ago and your exercise has been tremendous help. I was having difficulty getting both fingers to sound the same and I realized how tense my hand was by doing your exercise. So many tutorials and lessons (even paid ones) seem to forget that as new players we need this type of minute detail to learn proper technique. Thanks so much for your teachings.
I just start to play Bass and have watched 4 lessons till now. This is a best teacher and the exercise is really useful~ hope I can play well at the future.
This video series is fantastic. The instructions are clear and perfectly paced for a beginner like me.
thank you so much! I've been playing the bass for a while now, but was playing with only my my thumb, a habit developed from previous acoustic guitar playing. I'm trying to learn how to properly pluck a bass, and this video really helped!
At last a great teacher , easy to understand. Also professionally filmed.

Learn this technique properly! I play mostly guitar and started playing bass similarly to how I play finger style guitar. It sounds pretty good and worked for me. After seeing this video I decided to try and learn how to play properly! OMG, so much better!!! It is slow transitioning, but I can play longer and smoother. The dynamics are easier to control. AND, the thump that happens when you play "through" the string and it hits the one after gives a very nice percussive start to the bass note (even though it happens afterwards). Thank you very much for this video!!!!
Wow, he is a very good teacher. Clear, concise and well paced. Thank you!!
Best video I ever found on YT for bass beginner right hand technique. As bass beginner, I have much confuse on how to assign finger of right hand before watch this. It's really helpful. I love the guy said that "It's far easier to learn this now rather than trying to unlearn years of inefficient playing". I believe I'll definitely save huge time on wrong way to practice after this video guiding me. Thanks a lot!
I'm a drummer just starting out on the bass and this video has helped a LOT, before watching this I could only play with my thumb. Now I feel much more comfortable and smooth on the bass
i have been fingerpicking acoustic guitar and playing bass for over 30 years.. I took a break for a year and it is a hard road back after taking a year off.. You have helped me out by the solitude of the Basics. Thank You!
thanks for the upload. this has really helped me improve my technique!
Awesome technique. Thank you. This has helped a lot. Great video. Keep them coming. John.
Thank you for the video. Though I am not a Bass guitar player I loved the way you presented it.
I just wanna say that so far your videos have been awesome :) I felt like an intermediate bass-player, but I've learned a lot already. Can't wait to look through the rest of your lessons. Thank you :)

Thank you very much bro, you explain everything just wonderfully. This is the first time I was able to pick up how to hold a bass correctly and how to pluck correctly. And this even though my English is not perfect. This is thanks to the patience and niceness with which you deliver the lesson. I really feel that you are doing this from your heart. Thank you..

Very concisely put and very helpful. It's so easy to pick up bad habits in the beginning .
THIS is the absolutely most useful video I have seen so far to take my playing to the next level...never learned the finger plucking bit and have always known I needed to but never found the right guide to help me get there until today. Thank you. Thank you and thank you again. Count me as your next subscriber. :)

I recently bought an Ibanez 5-string. Very pleased with the bass. Not so pleased with myself! I've played bass just for hobby & fun before, but borrowed instruments. Now I have this, want to develop some sort of competence. YT has so many bass lesson videos, millions, but so very few that show plucking technique, or other good-sound techniques. This video is excellent! I am already starting to be a bit more pleased with myself.
I think this guy is the most thorough teacher I have seen on KZread so far

i applaud the creator of these well made lessons
OMG this video lesson actually resolved my problem! (This and cutting my finger nails ^^) My tone sounds so much better and deeper now (and without the clicking of my finger nails). Thank you, Sir!
I can attest to this, even though it's something that I am very bad at, relaxing the hand and anchoring it right there on your pickup, or top string if you have shorter fingers. I have never had it taught to me, but for years now, from the very first time I tried to relax and anchor, it has always given me a better sound and ability to really flow through the strings.
I don’t even play bass guitar and found watching you awesome. Your teaching style is very 👍🏼 😊 nice.
Nice concepts! It helps in going in the right direction. You assumed right; I never played the bass. Just bought an acoustic bass to try it out, next I'll get an electric bass.
My first bass lesson! Thanks a lot man!
Absolute brilliant exercise! Thanks
Wonderful lesson.Thanks.👍🏻👍🏻
I love your teaching style
I just got my first bass today and I am waiting for my first lesson. While trying the bass the strings would scratch against the frets. Thanks to your video I realised what I was doing wrong, you actually pointed it out. I as plucking with my very tips and doing it way too hard. Thanks!
Nice lesson and teacher. Hope i am learning something.
As a lead guitarist reinventing himself as a bass player Ive been looking I'm happy to have stumbled my way here... Maybe I'll actual learn to play properly.. Great lessons and I'm on lesson 4.. Starting from scratch.
Awsome explanation, thank you!
like how slow and patient he is, exactly what I needed as a beginner
Thanks for this wonderful video !
