Ty Zeno , learning the "when" to use a lure is way more important than the "how"

Subscribed. I live on the gulf coast of Florida. Though I don't have Striped Bass to chase, after many years of beach fishing, I have recently become addicted to casting big lures in the surf. Thank you for a very educational channel. It really is helpful to someone like myself in an area where nobody fishes using these techniques and lures.

Darters work great in current you are 100% correct. But they also can be used in still water if you work the plug with the rod. Moving the rod tip back to induce the darting action and then reeling the slack smoothly, and then a quick yank, and repeat these types of rod tricks. A quick pause every 8-10 seconds can also induce a strike. But it’s important to keep a smooth transition between these rod tricks and the slack in the line. Gibbs darters are great for this approach because they are more buoyant. This strategy has done great for me over the years in MTK and Jamaica Bay. The smaller size Gibbs darters are really good for this. The action is deadly when worked with these rod tricks. Thanks for all your videos they are great.

I find that a darter (especially with a wide slope) retrieved slowly in calm water has the most incredible life like action. You hafta experiment with it. Tuning the darter is usually necessary. No other lure has a more seductive action. I do well.

I can get a darter to dart in calm water, you just need to pump the rod in a good timing and retrieve at the proper speed. It is not likely to catch striper though unless the water is murky. There are many plugs i would have more success with.

What’s the difference with how you fish a darter and a metal lip? They seem to function the same way but you suggested otherwise. I fish the the gulf and Atlantic water beaches around Florida.

darter swind wide under surface, metal lip is mostly tight wiggle on surface. they cast diferent and most metal lips hate hard current where darters are made for it
