Great video.I usually chunk for stripers but I was using a whole live mackerel this one day when I was after a 40 plus inch striper when I hooked a great white shark instead while fishing from my kayak. Part of my video was recently used on the Discovery Channel episode called The Great White North. Toss me a subscription if you like, I only need a couple more to get 1000 :) Cheers

I really like the Bass Kandy Delights. I use them for Largemouth Bass in Southern California. They're easy to modify due to the angled texture lines and relatively deeper hook slot. The salt water plastic they use can also be stretched to soften them up, while still being resilient. they've got a great swimming action and tail kick for a straight tail eel shape.

I use the Hoggy, i have used the Jerk type and what i did to compensate for a jig is use a Bullet weight of 1/2 - 1 1/2oz. and it produces very well. Yes all all know Jigs are it but i was curious and being curious sometimes works. Peace

I find this recent promotion of soft eels interesting. Not being a live bait guy, but wanting to experience the benefit of eels as bait, I have been throwing pre-rigged Hogys, jighead, weedless Hogys, Al Gags eels, etc. for a few seasons now and have never had any luck. I'm down for the new info. and another shot at it though ...

  • @DanEvan

Try the albie snax 9” fish snax. It’s the best casting unweighted soft plastic I’ve ever used, it can be retrieved and rigged in many ways (I prefer a BKK 10/0 titan swimbait hook, or a Gravity tackle 1 oz screwlock jig head, but any would work)

@@andynonymous2164 No problem man. There’s certainly a time and place for these type of big plastics. I was present for what had to be a biomass of squid in the hundreds of thousands push through the canal and hot on their asses were big striper. They wouldn’t touch anyone’s offerings as they were so keyed in on squid. I found a 14” hogy stuffed in the bottom of my plug bag and this was the result. kzread.info/dash/bejne/f2qMpJqieL3Te84.htmlsi=zH4sJ6dsxDxF5aEz

Getting fishing reels dunked in water it’s just a reality for short women wading out to cast in the waves. I simply can’t cast as far. and if the choice is between catching fish and keeping the reel dry well, I’m gonna catch the damn fish.

  • @RichardEnglander

The problems with big lures are hook coverage and air resistance. You can use hook coverage to help select larger fish because smaller ones wont hook-up, but you get to a certain size and it is absolutely diminishing returns.

Never give anybody advice on striper fishing ever again unless you somehow found a way to attach two or three of them together to make a ~15-20” bait in which case I’m all ears. If you throw a 5-7” bait to 40lb bass eating 20” weakfish why would they ever even look at it???

@@kamarte I wasn’t trying to be polite- in fact I need to be rude when somebody spouts some absolutely idiotic advice in the comments of what is otherwise a useful video. “Use a 5-7” senko instead of a 13 inch gt eel when surf fishing for stripers” is top 5 dumbest things I’ve ever ever heard in my life. I’ve caught 16 fish over 40 inches in one night throwing original Hogy 14 inch plastics. Never has any seasoned surf veteran recommended senkos for stripers before, so you just think you can come on here and lie to the audience of SCJ without being called out? You shouldn’t be allowed to even watch these videos. Or did you accidentally drop a comment here when you thought this was a video about fishing for perch and crappie? I’ll say it one more time- don’t ever give advice about surf fishing stripers ever again

The Diawa ballistics are my absolute favorite surf casting rods. Years back i used throw sting silvers to ocean stripers . I fished the 40 405 for Drum and Cobia off the beaches of North Carolina and Virginia. Used the rod s for tournament long distance casting and had cast over 810 ft .in practice in Shallote North Carolina 2007 NE . Open Sportcast USA event. I recently sold all my rods and switched back to the ballistics ordered the H model which is the 33-405 and 35- 405 XH models.

Ok so I just got this rod and I wanted to ask your opinion. I have to decide between a Daiwa Fuego 2500xh, a Penn Spinfisher VI 3500, a Penn Battle 4000 and a Penn Spinfisher 4500 bailess. I'll be using it almost exactly like you're describing in extreme South Jersey and Delaware. The Battle Is the oldest and heaviest at 12.6 oz and not "waterproof" so it's kinda out. Any suggestions?

Now I wil agree. I've got the tsunami trophy 10ft rated I think 1-5oz and I've got a 9inch doc rated at 3.5 ounces and so I would definidly say I do not feel comfortable to throwing it on this rod because I don't think it be great and may snap. Now the same brand in the 11ft, I think would work fine which has a lure rating of 2-6oz.
