Well thought out guide. I noticed something last night on development though, Which is the penalty that is incurred by the development limit in each era of innovations. It seems to be a scale, so the closer you are to your maximum development limit the higher the penalty. There may be a strategy where you want to spread your stewards ability over several hubs even if your capital is not at or over your development limit. That is to say, your development limit imposed by your innovations is not so much a limit as a slowly increasing penalty. So a county that is much lower than the limit is going to develop very fast while a county that is closer to the limit is going to develop very slow, even if technically “under” the limit.

This is a strategy I have used to decent effect. Even went so far as to spread the love into my vassal's lands as well, in order to get a boost to cultural innovations. By 1150-1200ish, if I mixed fascination with exposure, I could get new techs every couple of years.

yeah its 10-20 and 35 i think i do remember that 7 to 8 is 6 years but 8 to 9 is 65, depends a bit on the skill of councillor but three is a time when is not worth. you can do capital hopping. your capital gives more taxes and levies and extra development growth. So you can move the capital one time with each ruler and get a higher development for a new place. Initially is a bit worse for income, but after a bit, its better to have 2 high development areas than one somewhat higher and one low. Also, development spreads, so the nearby areas of a highly developed land will get a bonus from it. So you basically ge 2-3 points high and that will reach an average of 10 faster than trying to push one over 15. I don't pay much attention to i always, its good to check it sometimes if something is really high. Mines and holy sites are the best overall. A vassal can push development in rare occasions, he needs stewardship focus and his own steward to be good. This can be achieved by marrying your own knights/courtiers with your own kids or smart foreigners, to match a skill and specialize on it, so you train your daughter on stewardship, get the best steward in your culture who has no land to marry her matrilineally and give him a land, possibly a duchy with its capital and just let them have kids. Chances are the kid will have the same focus and their court will have high average stewardship. Goes the same with diplomacy or other skills, it can supply you with 3 generations of councillors. You do not need learning tho and intrigue is overall bad to deal with, its all criminals. You need only one spy family or supply your own from court (lovers or nieces or aunts). You need multiple martial families since they die often. As for the ideal domains: you can have only 2 duchies without opinion penalty so you take 2 titles and their capitals, you give thee other 2 counties to people you want to protect, like sons or son in-laws or knights. If thy are under others or on their own duchy they might get attacked. Unlanded people can only have 2 kids, landed people 3 at least if both of them are lowborn, and then each rank 1 kid, and wife has her fathers rank, so a princess is a king rank, 6 kids, and an empress can have 8. Its per couple so landing people just for more humping is good. Just remember to check who you land, a good vassal has to have a good heir and good skills. your other counties should be in a single duchy but destroy the title, it will piss other counts if you don't own the whole duchy.

@Havoc - Baronies can be manually granted to non-republic vassals, but have to be done from the "grant titles" character option and not from the domain/holding screen - There are some domains in Northern Scotland (isles/islands) that consist of only 1 holding

My succession advice. In tribal you cannot give your heir land, but you can give your grandson land. And when your grandson becomes heir due to succession, suddenly they have land and holdings.

Hi! Great guides! After playing for some hours so figured out most ideas of the game myself.. there is one though.. one of councillors can do action consolidate titles.. which I haven’t tried yet.. it has something to do with changing de Jour.. but I simply don’t know how does it work.. maybe there is something interesting.. I also believe we shall get fro Paradox in terms of new paid DLC some enhancement of some of those ideas.. it is great base now but I can see it growing and growing and be even better in the future!

The "integrate title" action just speeds up the natural de jure drift process. If you own, say, the Kingdom of Ireland, as well as the county of Dyfed (de jure Wales) then over about a century or so, Dyfed will eventually become de jure part of Ireland. You can used your chancellor's "integrate title" action to speed this process up somewhat.

I generally see peasant uprisings as a benefit. They are so easy to put down and their leaders can have some pretty great military stats and skills. Just put em down and recruit their leader after the war and you usually end up better off than before the uprising.

What should be considered as well is that you shouldn't give counties away that are adjacent to your own if you plan on increasing their development. If it spreads you want it to spread to your own domain not to your vassals

One way to do that, is to imprison that vassal. As when they are in jail you can strip them of their land. But! It will make you extremely unpopular among your other vassals. - Unless they have committed a crime and/or you have a hook on them. So it is not easy. --- Here having kings specialise in different things, from generation to generation, can be helpful. At least I have had a "The Terrible" king in my dynasty, when having completed the "Torturer" tree in "Intrigue" lifestyle you can get your "Dread" up at 100 and have it stay there! - When it is at 100 you do not need to care for "Opinion" and "Tyranny", they are too terrified of you to do anything against you, no matter if everyone is at -100 opinion of you, and you have accumulated thousands in tyranny! (Except religious fanatics, they don't care and thus make trouble no matter if you are benevolent or terrible.) At 100 Dread you can imprison people as you see fit. That allow you to establish and groom a personal domain to your liking and for your successors to get benefit from! I think a good personal domain can be everything in the capital duchy, if that is too small then destroy a neighbouring duchy title and add land from it. When you have established your capital duchy as your personal domain, then it is time to groom it to your liking. - Time to do some serious building construction! ... But how to afford that?! - Especially in the early years where the KZread gurus tell you not to waste your meagre money at constructing buildings - Remember: You are "The Terrible" so you just look around among your vassals, and their vassals, yes even the mayors, and imprison those who have a good fortune as: The moment you get them in prison, you release them again, having them paying "Ransom" to you, and as your "Dread" is so high they would have to pay around 125 to get out, this way you can make 500 a month, or 3000 a year, that is what you need for your building project! (Just do not terrorise the clergy, as it will quickly ruin your "Piety") What buildings to build? - I will say: Build so you have one maxed of each type that have an "Your realm" effect, so you have all those bonuses. - And if there are empty land in the capital province, then consider an extra castle, yes that give an extra holding (bad) but! It make it more difficult for your war enemies to take your capital! (good), in those castles go for buildings that improve "Fort Level" and "Garrison". Downside is that your successer start out with everyone having a -50 "Opinion of your predecessor", but people get over it, so approximately 6 years later the terrible reign is forgotten. Ok, your vassals had (far!) less money to construct their own buildings (If that was their intend... They often spend it at waging wars against each other instead...), but you used those money to construct buildings you get the full benefit of. --- End result: You have groomed a personal domain for many generations to enjoy!

Imprisonment and tyranny are unnecessary. Fabricate a claim on that land with your bishop if you don't already have one. Once done hit revoke title, select your claim to do it tyranny free. Requires lvl 2 crown authority. Percentage chance based on opinion, power, dread etc to successfully revoke or cause civil war. Be careful as other disgruntled vassels will 100% take this opportunity to join the war against you along with the person whom you're trying to revoke, even if there was no pre existing alliance between the two disgruntled vassals. If you win civil war which will begin 7/10 times of so, you will automatically imprison that vassal and any others who joined the conflicf against you, allowing you to revoke, banish, ransom, force to renounce claims, whatever you like tyranny free. I'm not sure about torture and execution, I think they're both still tyrannical, but it might just cause huge opinion losses. My unification of Ireland came with a few neccesary civil conflicts to consolidate the power of my Dynasty. Having those not of your house in power for an extended period is dangerous, as a foreigner could wind up inheriting their lands. What Lars suggests is a fun idea, but if you don't wanna be a horrible person for your whole campaign and try to rp a bit you could do it the harder way^. Only downside is it takes time to fabricate the claim and money to acquire the claim.
