Leaky Heart Valves - Causes, Symptoms & Treatments

Our heart valves help ensure that blood flows forward through the heart. However, when heart valves become leaky, blood may flow backwards instead. National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) Consultant, Dr Yeo Khung Keong, explains the common symptoms of leaky heart valves, causes and treatments available to patients.

My beautiful grandmother who I never met because she died in 1932 at the age of 32 from mitral valve damage whether it was from an infection as she nursed all the return servicemen back in 1919 or whether she was born with it as we have found a couple of the cousins to have Similar problems. It breaks my heart to know what she was feeling at 32 I’m feeling now at 59 because of COPD that I basically brought on myself from smoking. My mum still alive she’s 95 and i cherish every day with her because she didn’t have the chance to have her mother from the age of four. Glad medical procedures have come so far from then gosh back then they thought cancer was contagious and you would get locked away.

There are acupressure points for leaky heart valves. on youtube there are many videos on the points to stimulate for the heart. Also look into Arjuna Tea - this may also help. Watch a video by Austin Goh - 7 exercises for leaky heart valves or similar title. He shows you very clearly which exercises to do if you have leaky heart valves or inflammed heart. Not sure if this will help but you can look and decide for yourself. Also look into Vitamin B4 which may also be beneficial for the heart. You also need to see cardiologist to get ultrasound. Also carry with you at all times Ceyenne Pepper with water just in case you feel pain in your chest.

@@jesselquilala2569 Today was better than yesterday, thank you so much for asking. Some days I feel my heart pounding while I'm just laying down not doing anything. I was hospitalized twice as well. The first time my bpm was 175 and my chest pain was severe. They didn't find anything besides low potassium (not sure if it's related to my leaky heart valve but it could be) It wasn't until I saw my cardiologist and got all the tests done that they found the regurgitation. I do also have back/neck pain, I never attributed it to my heart but now I'm wondering if it could be. I get the headaches too which usually lead to nausea for me. I have 2 different types of chest pain it's either an aching long-lasting pain or a sharp short-lasting pain. The sharp pains usually happen at night. I sleep for 12 hours and I'm still exhausted throughout the day. When I'm short on breath it can feel suffocating and hard to catch my breath. It's scary having to go through this and I really feel for you. As a woman it's hard enough finding a doctor that take your symptoms seriously, it takes so long to even get a diagnosis. Then once you get a diagnosis they still don't take it seriously. I hope things get better for you dear.

@@piaaadah I feel bad for you. I hope you'll be fine too. Four doctors checked me, 2 cardiologist and 2 general surgeon. They all agreed that what I've been going through is the physical symptoms of panic disorder and severe anxiety. A neuro-psychiatrist interviewed and he said that I am going through something but did not dare followed up on him because I am just so tired of all this psych meds they've been giving me. I almost died on the hospital bed and in my bedroom. My heart just ached so bad and stops pumping, my spirit is slowly separating from my body, I can only called on Jesus name and I came back again. my guardian called the nurses but all they could do for me is put me on oxygen. They give me psych meds and Acid reflux medicines. I stopped all the meds, I'm only taking food supplements and vitamins right now. This month my last diagnosis was acid reflux and anxiety. Your physical symptoms could be because of anxiety, it's best to talk to a psychiatrist about it. Or, acid reflux, just look up acid reflux and GERD on the internet, main symptoms of gerd is anxiety and panic. I stopped my psych meds because all of these pain started when I am diagnosed with Mitral valve prolapse. My situation is also manageable, I realized that I got triggered with anger, when I get angry then my sympts started appearing and intensifies, so I tried toanage my emotion too. Hope we will be okay soon. I'll include you in my prayers.

I'm not a Dr. But I was just diagnosed yesterday with leaky valve n the nurse practitioner said my heart is strong but I do have leaky calve she suggested I lose weight, eat good and exercise...I'm going to also add Coq10 and fish oil they say it's really good for the heart. Coq10 is supposed to strengthen the heart as well

I know the feeling. I want through the same scenario. I had leaking heart valve and I was short of breath, leg swelling due to retaining fluid. I bounced back from it by exercising, chaninh what I eat and taking my medication. Just listing to the Doctor in General. If I can do it, you can too. Have faith, be positive and you will get through this.

Majority of patients with heart failure or just mitral valve problems are obese. They seek fuxitol pills or even surgery before they actually address the root of the problem which is obesity and cholesterol, more often than not caused by insulin resistance. There's no pull and surgeons just shut off the alarm which wilL resurface if lifestyle changes aren't applied. Want to be surprised how easy fast and lasting you can heal? Go 100% organic vegan, mostly raw and do not eat dinner. Large breakfast, decent lunch and replace dinner with moderate exercise even if you just walk in place. Watch your weight come off, insulin resistance fix and heart get stronger - no doctor needed

115 lb, 30 year old woman with severe mitral valve regurgitation. You can’t reverse mitral valve regurgitation. If it’s severe, no going back without medication to keep it from progressing or surgery. It’s idiotic to think that lifestyle changes can reverse it. It’s a mechanical issue that requires a mechanical solution to reverse it back to normal.
