LEADERSHIP BITES: 4Bs to Great Leadership

LEADERSHIP BITES: 4Bs to Great Leadership
A "bite sized" leadership principle that I’ve been developing for a number of years to help you to become a great leader.
The underlying B is for “build-it”. A naturally great leader is rare, for the rest of us, we have to build upon leadership principles and work hard at being great leaders.
The 4Bs are:
1. BE RESPECTFUL
Being kind and courteous in your words can make a significant difference. No matter what is happening be consistent in your approach. Protect your team members, let them know you have their back.
2. BE A BUILDER OF PEOPLE.
In everything you do, allow your team members to contribute and value their contribution. Give honest, timely, relevant & specific feedback, regularly. Put others ahead of yourself. Listen to them, allow them to develop a voice and empower them, give them opportunities to excel, to be the best they can be.
3. BE PERSONABLE.
You may be in a work environment, but it certainly helps to take an interest in what is happening in the lives of your team members. Value your team members. Be available, if and when, they need to talk.
4. BE FLEXIBLE.
Your team is made up of team members with various strengths and weaknesses, encourage them to lead with their strengths and support them when they encounter their weaknesses. Don’t believe your way is the only way, being open-minded can make a huge difference.
As you apply these 4Bs, the application might be different from person to person. Determine what suits you and apply it, checking as you go.
I’ve found that these make a significant difference, I’m confident they’ll help you in your journey to be a better leader.
