Never be afraid to listen to "boomer" bands just because they're older. Good music transcends generation, and if you listen to some of the pioneers you will definitely see where modern music has descended from. And I'm glad you go into with some respect, but also never be afraid to explore. You might not even like some things, but at least you give it a chance.
To put this performance in context, this was the encore. Bruce's voice had already done an entire set and still had this energy.

There's a reason Bruce is called the Air Raid Siren, I absolutely love watching people discover the awesomeness of Iron Maiden! Great reaction, you've gained a subscriber! I'm sure this has already been suggested, but please do yourself a favor and either watch on your own time or react to the live version of this song at Hammersmith in 1982.
“Dance of Death” from the live recording called “En Vivo” is a huge song. Super dramatic. Great story telling through the lyrics and through the instruments.
I've heard he sings the entire concert playlist while rollerblading to prepare for a tour. He also was the pilot of the 757 they used for this world tour. He wrote a couple of books. He helped a brewery come up with a few Maiden inspired beers. He was once the 7th ranked fencer in England. I think he sings for some band also.

Bruce has talked in interviews how the gestures and stage antics, as well as projecting his voice are all part of tring to make those in the back of the house feel like they're much closer
This is close to two thirds through the concert and he is recovered from throat cancer. Iron Maiden are the perfect live band.
That's the way of us Iron Maiden fans are
You really have to see them live to appreciate what they do. My first time was 1983, my last one was 2019, and both were just amazing. The energy they have while being in their 60's is unmatched.
I will see them live in 5 days. It will be 40 years since my first Maiden concert. Up The Irons!
I was fortunate enough to watch this tour live twice, the first show here in São Paulo, Brazil, a rain storm ruined the fireworks and a lot of stuff from the stage so they promised they'd be back the next year to do justice to their concert. They kept their promise and came back, the ticket prices were cheaper and ironically once again a rain storm hit us, because of that there were over 20k people outside at the moment the band was supposed to go on stage, then their manager showed up and said they were gonna wait until everybody was in because it was unfair to start it knowing so many people had trouble reaching the venue. Then they delivered the show of our lives. Every band should take note from Iron Maiden about how to keep the fans happy and coming back.
On 6 January 2020, Dickinson was made an Honorary Group Captain of 601 (County of London) Squadron RAF.[126] Royal Air Force. Dickinson's interests and non-musical activities include writing, broadcasting, fencing (at which he has competed internationally, placing 7th in Great Britain,[127] and has founded a fencing equipment company under the brand name "Duellist"),[128] beer brewing and aviation. Due to the wide variety of Dickinson's pursuits, Intelligent Life named him as a living example of a polymath in 2009.[129] Wikipedia.

They ENJOY themselves so much live! They act like 16 yr Olds. They love interacting with the crowd, cranking out the level of loud noise not available elsewhere.
Thank you ! Appreciate learning about Iron Maiden - this phenomenal trailblazing English band that has influenced so very many metal bands in their 40 plus years of existence. So awe inspiring! After listening to Hallowed Be Thy Name and delving into the lyrics (loved it), I just had to do a bit more research. Learning that Steve Harris wrote such incredibly academic yet grounded lyrics based on historical events (Run to the Hills, Alexander the Great) and literature (Charge of the Light Brigade was a fave of my father and grandfather which was the inspiration for The Trooper). Then discovering that they have a song titled Phantom of the Opera - that just called to me. Saw a video of Iron Maiden playing at a festival and the aerial view of the endless sea of fans was breathtaking. The band has received countless awards including honorary doctorates ! What blew my mind is that they have hardly gotten radio play and mainstream support yet their achievements / album sales / recognition / influence on other artists (eg Metallica) but not limited to heavy metal artists are legendary. 47 years since Steve Harris formed the group in 1975 and still going strong! Wow ! How wonderful to learn new things every day! Thank you!

man, I loved your reaction and when you mention the little things like you said about the guitar feedback, that was awesome.
This was like 25 years after the original live performance of this same song. This recording is incredible enough but his voice was on point even more 25 years earlier. Its worth watching even if not as a reaction. Its iconic. Bruce was flying that plane they show at the beginning. He's been a pilot for many years. Yes, they have 3 6string guitars and a bass. All are really good. If Iron Maiden had a "sound" its the layering of the 3 guitars. They jump back n forth taking lead at times, the other 2 typically harmonizing in the back. Pluce Bruce voice is insane.
Definitely need to do more Iron Maiden!!!!

You should read Bruce's autobiography. He piloted that plane they went in tour with... But that's just a little bit of what makes that guy so special. Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner is a great life experience, just like Fear of the Dark, When the Wild Winds Blow, Powerslave, The Clairvoyant, Sign of the Cross, Blood Brothers, The Clansman... I mean, there are the classics like The Trooper, The Number of the Beast and Run to the Hills, but I don't think these are their best songs - however, they are definitely great live though, so you can't go wrong here either 😂 Bruce Dickinson actually did some really great solo albums. Years of the Dragon, Inertia, Accident of Birth, Chemical wedding, The Tower, Book of Thel, Gates of Urizen, Eternal... He also worked on a documentary called "Scream for me Sarajevo"... As in his solo tour they went to Sarajevo... During Civil War... It's partially about him and the band, but mostly about the civil war in the balkans and how music helped the young people to keep their hope alive that that war would end. You'll have a difficult time to find a metal Frontman... Or Sunday un general with such a "CV" 😊 that guy is truly inspiring.
So you probably didn't notice Bruce was flying the tour jet at the very first seconds of the vide.He is skilled pilot and also flew the Ed Force one a 747 from show to show when he was able to get enough rest by law.
Talking about the energy of the band. At 62 years old Bruce Dickinson is the baby in the group. It’s insane… I don’t think I had that much energy at 20..
No worries at all if you're not a fan of Maiden. I'm 56, and was a massive fan when I was in HS in the early '80's and shortly after, but I got burned out on them and long since moved on. Definitely were one of the earliest Metal bands, but the genre has evolved so much over 4 decades. Dickinson, Halford, Dio the Holy Trinity of early Metal vocalists. And Steve Harris is definitely NOT underrated. He is a legend in the genre. He IS maiden, in that Maiden is his band-he's the Boss!
Jump into the live performance of Bruce doing Tears of the Dragon with Tribuzy. Vocally mind blowing. Deeeep rabbit hole you landed in here mate, enjoy ;)
Live shows are where Maiden made their name. Very little radio play, but they are still one of the biggest bands on the planet. Great reaction.
Brilliant commentary mate. You nailed it 👍 The fans love Maiden because they love the fans and love each other. Outstanding band. It will be a sad day when they retire.
One thing that I haven't really seen acknowledged is that this is an end-of-set number. The band have already been performing for 70-80 minutes and they still deliver huge amounts of energy and just nail it.
Great Reaction! The live performance you chose was from their documentary called Flight 666 (around 2010) and alot of it was when they toured around South America and those metal heads down there are CRAZY for metal. At every concert the crowds were insane. On a side note, the plane you saw landing at the start of the video was theirs (I think a 747) and Bruce has his pilots license and piloted the plane on their tour.
@MsCatstaff
Жыл бұрын
The plane at the start of this video is a leased Boeing 757. They upgraded to a 747 for the Book of Souls tour. If you hunt around KZread, you can find little clips from the various tours that Bruce piloted the plane, radio chatter between the pilot and ATC... and yes, some of them, it is Bruce doing the talking. Sadly, he's said he won't be piloting the band's plane anymore, as he's now within a year of the international mandatory retirement age for commercial pilots. I heard this from the man himself, at his Spoken Word tour back in February. Bruce is just as engaging as a storyteller in a small club, as he is in the big arenas and festivals. He's said that as the front man, it's his job to engage the whole audience and not just the first few rows - that he tries his best to make the people all the way at the back feel as involved as the ones on the barrier.
Bruce beat throat cancer and still is singing today

Agree, Beast Over Hammersmith 1982
Every heavy metal musician after 1980 was influenced by this band. Now go watch a video of Bruce when he was young doing this song.

Steve Harris: bass, founder, main writer, band leader. Bruce Dickinson: vocals Adrian Smith: lead guitar Jannick Gers: lead guitar Dave Murray: lead guitar Nicko McBraib: drums The band had always had twin lead guitars. About twenty to twenty-five years ago, Bruce and Adrian left, wanting to pursue their own course. The band hired a new singer and Jannick Gers. When Bruce and Adrian came back, they didn't want to let go of Jannick, so Steve (I'm guessing it must have been him) basically said: "No problem. I'll just change the arrangement of EVERY SONG i'VE EVER WRITTEN to include a third guitar." Crazy to think about!
Best crowd participation and best put together melodic solos of any band
You like melodic and harmonizing guitars and storytelling? Yeah, just listen to basically everything Iron Maiden. Up the irons! 15:35 That's Janick Gers you're talking about. I appreciate you explaining what he's doing. No other reaction to this song has caught (or knew) what he was doing. I sure didn't. Thought he was just being a little flamboyant.

I was going to say the same thing. Everything you said you liked is exactly what iron maiden does. I strongly suggest a deep dive into their catalog. You'll be amazed! From a guy that's been a Maiden fan since the early '80s, thanks for giving this a listen. I just gave you a sub.

Ah yes, IRON MAIDEN! I was on their concert like 2 months ago ❤ Hallowed Be Thy Name is easily their best song (check out Hammersmith 1982 performance as well) Also check out Fear of the Dark or The Trooper (en vivo), top performances for sure and if you need more old school metal bands to react, i'm happy to help hahah

I do believe that Bruce Dickinson and the band do love each other because it comes through in their music and how they perform and it is just outstanding and amazing

So many things about your review. Disecting the technical, noting the energies, listening with your heart as well as your head, and being openly animated about your thoughts and opinion. You sir, with me not knowing anything about you or seeing any of your other videos prior, have gained my respect and my sub. I look forward to learning more about you.
They still sound amazing but you should check out the 1982 live video to hear them at their peak

Bruce is great here “for his age”, but the legendary performance of this song at Hammersmith Odeon in 1982 is as good as any performance ever captured live. He’s a beast on that track-pun intended (it’s from the Beast on the Road tour). There’s a reason why it’s one of the most frequently reviewed Maiden performances, but considering your background and vocal knowledge, I’d love to hear your review.

We have tickets to see them next week in Southern California 🤟 PS, Bruce is piloting that plane you just saw. If you watch the 1982 live version you'll get the awesome experience of hearing his vocals at his peak !!! One more thing, have you done any Dio or Judas Priest??
