    Ran out of bread late at night so used your recipe, with a few minor changes, and it came out as a substantial country white bread. I added a tbsp of melted butter and a pinch of sugar to the yeast. In the morning I punched down slightly, formed as if making a traditional loaf and then put into cold oven and turned heat on which helped to raise a little before it baked through. Really easy and had some tasty bread in the morning. Thx.

    I make this bread a lot with some very minor variations like a tablespoon of honey in the batter mix. For a slightly more sourdough flavor let rise 12 to 18 hours instead of 8 to 12. The longer it sets, the more "sour" the dough. The biggest difference for me is the baking step. I preheat a dutch oven (le Creuset 6 qt in my case) to 400 deg and place the dough in the hot pot as a ball. Bake covered with lid on at 400 for 30 min, lower the temp to 375 and bake uncovered for 15 minutes or until you get the color you want. The makes a beautiful rustic boule loaf that just falls out of the pot when done. The loaf in this video looked underdone to me and the extra time is important for thorough doneness in a boule. YMMV if you use a different shape as in this video. Bottom line, this is a great rustic bread recipe, very easy to put together. You just have to think about doing it well in advance due to the long rise (ferment) time.

    That's not Lazy Man's Bread. Lazy Man's Bread is buying it at the grocery store. If you want fresh baked, you can buy the pre-made loaf that is ready to bake, either on the bread racks or in the freezer.

    I think the name suits the recipe. You might want to name your idea "Too lazy for real bread"... LOL. If you want "fresh" bread you have to make it at home or buy it as it comes out of the oven. Pre-made or frozen is not the same as fresh!

    This recipe halves very easily. I use 1/2 envelope of Rapid Rise and it's ready to bake in an hour when placed in a warm place. PERFECT size for dinner for four. And this got rid of the doughy center. We usually put some Italian Seasoning in the dough and sometimes use pretzel salt on the outside. JUST THE BEST RECIPE EVER! THANK YOU!

  • @cookingwithjackshow
    @cookingwithjackshow13 жыл бұрын

    @TheVicci38 are you using self rising flour? did you confuse baking powder with baking soda? did you remember the salt? how old are your ingredients?
