Fabulous Christy! The Pebeo green blue was a perfect choice and made me oooo and aaaah out loud! The Ring of Pansies is a wonderful stencil but you took it to the next level on this print, its stunning 💜

Thank you so much. It is an outstanding stencil. It really makes you think about how to layer this print because the stencil is perfect no matter how you turn it. Good for the brain. lol.

Gosh, I love what you did with this. I'd like to try out gel printing someday. This was full of great ideas to try out.

These are beautiful results and a great technique! Thanks for sharing them. Two production notes, and an artistic request: Your lighting produces glare and reflections because it is directly overhead. If you used 2 of the same light, one to your left and one to your right, and aim them at approximately 45 degrees down and inward toward your surface, the reflections and glare would be eliminated for anything flat that is oriented directly toward the camera. Second, you are so patient with your printing and letting all these layers dry in between paint applications! I think your video would benefit from a small extension of that same patience into the realm of close-up product shots. Even when you are displaying something in video running at normal speed, it takes time for your camera to refocus, and for the viewer to locate, read, and fully-register the English (or whatever) line of the paint color name, along with the brand. If you are speeding up the process, this matter is even more important, although oddly, I found those passages clearer and less troublesome. There are a number of ways to resolve this issue in a pretty straightforward manner: 1. Turn off auto-focus and display the products in a prolonged, stable position (at least 10 full seconds) at a distance near the gel plate you're already focused on. For accelerated footage, this shot will go by quickly, but gives us enough time to hit pause on a clear frame. (Pausing on an out-of-focus frame, or one that rotates part of the information to a position out of our view, is of course useless. So the quality of the shot itself matters most.) In normal-speed footage, you can easily trim the shot by a few seconds during editing, if 10 seems too long. 2. Another way would be to photograph the container of each paint color used, after you've shot the entire video. These still shots can then very simply be overlaid when you're editing your video. 3. Last, and both most clear and most effortful to accomplish, you could overlay titles with the product brand and color information. The third thing is about stencil selection: I've only watched about three of your videos, so far, but in each one, you continually use the same stencil. When you choose to do this, I'm interested in knowing how you decided on that option. I'm also interested in seeing how you would apply similar techniques to using more than one stencil--say, a second one for either the first or last pull. (Though I suspect that it would make most difference to use one relatively open or large-scale stencil for the first [or 'front"] layer and one or more smaller or more-complex stencils for the background layers.) Those things said, I do wish to emphasize how lovely I think your results are, and what a great technique this is. I plan to do my own experiments with it at my next printing opportunity. Thanks so much for packing so much inspiration into such a short format!

Thank you for taking the time to comment With the production notes as well as the technique. It sounds like you have experience in video production. I’m envious of that and have done lots of research but obviously need to do more. All of your ideas are appreciated and I will try some of them in the future. I found the question about why I’m using certain stencils to also be valid and I will definitely try to incorporate some of that as well. I try to keep my videos relatively short so I will need to be concise in my description. I already position my lighting as you suggested but will play with it more to see if I can eliminate some of the glare.
