Lawn Organic Fertilizer

Lawn organic fertilizer application. LINKS →
www.howtowithdoc.com/lawn-org...
Doc explains the role of lawn organic fertilizers and how they work. A key element of adding organic matter to your lawn is a healthy soil. Good microbes and good fungus help our lawns grow and reduce the amount of fertilizers needed. By adding organic lawn fertilizers we feed the living organisms in the soil.
The lawn makes organic molecules such as sugars by photosynthesis and supplies them to the fungus, and the fungus supplies to the grass water and mineral nutrients, such as phosphorus, taken from the soil.

Hey Doc. I have 3 year old lawn. I live in Austin TX and last week had an irrigation system installed FINALLY!! I'm looking at top dressing to give the lawn a boost to cover the bare patches from trenching. Will the dirt booster work just as good? My lawn is pretty small, 4,000 s/f.

  • @cphorn15

Why are you wanting to use such a high phosphorus ratio? New seed or something? Doc has mentioned a few times in other videos about using PGF Balanced (10-10-10) if you are wanting to fertilize new seed. Most "starter fertilizers" have a low nitrogen ratio so as not to stress/burn the new seed. Otherwise, if you're just amending the soil on a mature lawn, your 16-8-8 should be fine. If you just can't get 16-4-8, I'd go for a 16-0-8 or something similar and maybe evenly mix with a 16-8-8 of the same size/density so you can get a 16-4-8 after mixing.

i've read if the urine is hot it will burn lawns in weak areas? urine should make the lawn darker in those spots since Urine is similar to Urea which is in some fertilizers. I've read that somewhere. I don't know your climate such as snow, heat etc.

Can you add (just) chicken feed to your lawn as the organic fertilizer? Or, is that pointless without the microbial pack to have the chicken feed be broken down into the soil? Understanding the chicken feed will break down into the soil anyway, but is it the microbes that actually get the nutrients into the soil to be 100% effective (instead of, maybe, 50% or less with use of [ just ] chicken feed).
