    I like how the "solid" and groovy rhythm section (both bass and drums) create this counter balance with the esoteric hyper virtuosity of the guitar player. King Crimson had this going as well when Bruford/Tony Levin were still part of the group.

    Andy hoping to make Rolling Stones list of 250 greatest drummers. You’re kinda like a milketoast version of Tommy Lee. Add some cowbell and a leather thong, and you might weasel your way onto the list. All jokes aside, this band sounded really good. Good thing they have a bass player who can keep time. 🤪

    "Shawn Lane Went Home and Cried". :D (Just taking up a good enough excuse to parody the name of a famous Guided by Voices video, named so by them, with great love and prostrate adoration for _The Who_ . Just swop "The Who" for "Shawn Lane", bang it into the KZread search bar, and you'll be transported to video that's half a jam on the front porch, and half, some live footage of them drinking too much. Well almost too much. They remain functional all the way through.) Or in plainer English: Great Band!

    @@AndyEdwardsDrummer Ja, I think GBV were quite tongue in cheek about The Who (and yes, it's important to note that in that case, too, GBV are GBV - although Bob Pollard went through a phase where he was telling his audiences they're "better than the Beatles", too, so he must have paid at least a token visit to The Thief of Joy then, too.) Roy is amazing, and no serious "challenge" was meant. (It's not like this is the Rugby World Cup, where South Africa has crushed everyone else again. I think in music things go to ruin when anyone is crushed.)

    Question for jazz musicians. Is there a term for when a soloist plays a non-distinct flurry of notes instead of a melody, like at 3:00? It works particularly well in a dissonant harmonic context, like this.

    Fantastic stuff, wish I could have been there! It's great to see how much fun you had! Any chance of touring Europe, in particular Germany? Was it Allan Holdsworth who wanted to make the guitar sound like a horn? Roy Marchbank is getting very close here, especially with the device he seems to blow into.

  • @jelk1188
    @jelk11889 ай бұрын

    One just has to wonder where Roy Marchbank would be now if he had listened to his next-door-neighbour's advice and modelled himself on the Rolling Stone great guitarists, Neil Young and Paul McCartney, rather than that no-good-street-busker-hack, Allan Holdsworth? Same thing about Andy, too, who stubbornly chose Cobham and Nerada-Waldon over Charlie Watts - against his mother's advice.

    Very nice, astonishing playing from the guitarist, I would like to see you in Paris. I humbly have some critiques to say though. I think the high reverb on fast solos sounds bad. I also think there's a stylistic gap between the guitarist and the rythm section, a mismatch. It's a personal opinion.
