I'm nearly 30 and about to quit my corporate job to join LE. Already did Ride-along with the county nearby and was told that Academy sponsorships are available if they like me enough. Working out & training now quite a bit to apply next Jan/Feb for June Academy class. Been watching tons of your content. I appreciate it.

I just applied last Wednesday (7/26) Had my written exam, Physical test, and oral interview that Friday(7/28) Now I’m going to take my polygraph tomorrow (Tuesday 8/1) Everything seems to being great. I’m excited for this department and they seem eager to have me.

@@jacobh2629 it’s still going. I’m starting week 5 of 8 at SCCJA. it’s not bad. I wish the academy was a little bit longer. Seems like they try to Jam Pack a lot into these 8 weeks. I’ll graduate Feb 16th

As always, appreciate the information. I'm 21 now, in California, just beginning the process for employment in this field. It may take some time, but I am going to make it happen!

In the last year I applied at 3 different agencies one I pass my polygraph test and background investigation went all the way to the final interview but didn’t score high enough at the interview the other two after my pt test went to went straight to the panel interview did not get the job it’s it wise to keep on applying to different agencies? Or should I take a break and wait to apply again?

My thinking was that applying for only one department would be a plus since it’s a loyalty thing but maybe I’m overthinking it

If I am already a county employee and want to join law enforcement for the same county do you think that will be a benefit for me do to the fact that Iam already employed by that county?

Honestly, it depends on the size of the county and do you have any regular contact with the officers or deputies there? Advantage 1, you are probably familiar with the geography, make sure that comes out in the interview. Advantage 2, if this is accurate, you have been close enough to observe the agency you are applying to and maybe have communicated with some of the officers and you know that this is the high quality type of agency you want to work with. Just thinking outside the box, good luck.

hello sir, what would be a positive way of spinning the fact that you have used marijuana or cocaine in the past during an interview?

If they don't ask you about the past use during the interview I wouldn't bring it up, unless you want to tie it to a question about your greatest strength, "Determination", after a short period of using marijuana I decided that its use was going to prevent me from attaining my lifetime goals, like being a police officer. My determination allowed me to say no and draw a line with "my friends" at the time. (Maybe something like that), If they do ask about it based off your background questionnaire, first be honest (sounds like you are already there), second tie it to a positive, what did you learn about those who use marijuana or cocaine, like, not everyone using these drugs is a dirt bag, a lot of people who are addicted are not addicted by choice. People have hard lives that we can not see, so I learned that everyone has a story and just because they are breaking a law doesn't necessarily mean they are a bad person, they have just had a bad time. Just some ideas for you, let me know how it works out.

I want a career in law enforcement. I am feeling too old at 33 with mostly hard labor and heavy equipment operating as far as experience. Any thoughts on that?

My co worker was 31 with only retail and cable experience and he got into law enforcement. It all depends on how clean you are, and how you present yourself. If you are a strong -willed person, you'll make it. And it never hurts to try, if you fail you can always try again later , and you can gain insight as to why you didn't pass in the first place. Some agencies have an age cap of 35, other have one at around 40 years old. If you think you're up for it, it's not too late. Best of luck. Also , I'm here because I'm also thinking of a career in LE 😂.

There are some agencies that have an age cap, but not as many as you would think. When I worked for the county we actually hired some retired military folks, one was a retired Marine full bird Colonel, so he was about 47 when he started and he was not an MP. Age can actually be a plus because of the maturity that tends to come with time. Be positive and go for it. Take a look at this video kzread.info/dash/bejne/eoeapqmqiMqyl7Q.html Sorry, tried to do link, just copy and paste it. Good luck.
