Thanks for the close up of this crack. For those wondering, it's the very SE tip of Hagafell. It's where the lava met groundwater 4 hours into the May 29th eruption, and caused explosions and huge plumes of dark brown smoke. Watching that live was literally the only time in 3 years of watching this live that I was 'afraid' watching an eruption. It had so much power in it, and this was the result, in how mixing lava and water cracked the ground wide open.

It's amazing that more people reporting on the eruption didn't really pick up on what exactly was going on at this end of the fissure. It was incredible to see this section of the fissure switch from primarily effusive and lava fountaining to primarily explosive as this crack opened up and all the already erupted lava in the immediate area drained back down into it

Is it near Sylingafell or is it actually Sylingafell itself? Another thing is it looks like the lava some how flowed uphill to cross over the brow 0:32. Is it Icelandic anti-gravity lava or what has been happening? Fantastic video. TY.

It's on the east side of Hagafell, we are flying north looking towards the main cone.

@@goldreverre TY. Yes I could see the Main cone. Ah-I remember I have seen the Hagafell crack before in another video and the narrator drone flyer pointed out he had seen it during the prievious eruption back in 2023. But when he filmed it before it was not smoking or emitting gasses. TY again. It would be just up from the now filled Melhole Quarry which is off screen behind it to the south.

That uphill bit of lava... I suspect it was from the original first day of the eruption when it was a 2km+ long fountain along that entire fault line. I think that crack is right on the fault line, and probably has just opened up a bit more since the start.

@@goldreverre Yes it seems a little wider than when I first took note of it. I can not remember seeing lava spewing out of it. But just on the corner of Hagafell on what I note as Melhole Hagafell corner there was certainly lava fountaining from one or more vents. It was the same corner where the lava met underground water explosily which so many filmers recorded and published. It is interesting to see or note there is cooled lava both sides of Hagafell summit. There may have been more activity up there than I noticed. I guess I have observed each day since the 29th May eruption. TY.

@@MikeGreenwood51 sounds like we are both addicts of this volcano...hahaha. But you're right about the quarry being just south of this and where the explosive action was happening. I note in this video, on the right side you can see where the fast flowing lava channel was that fed into the quarry and down onto the plains toward Grindavick. I don't think lava encircles Hagafell though. I'm pretty sure it's lava-free on it's northern and western sides... just in case you've got the scale wrong, this is not the summit. It's just a small bump at the foot of Hagafell. You can see a section of vehicle tracks over it for scale.

Iceland news tells us this small volcano. Then they tell us the tiny volcano will go to sleep, and never erupt again. Iceland has repeated this exact same news story after 6 different eruptions.

Never once has the Icelandic news said that it will never happen again.
