I loved Lauryn's MTV Unplugged album! She dared t😅o leave the glitz, glam, & hype behind...& showed up real & raw. I never understood why so many people hated that album. They just didn't get the no makeup "look", the acoustic music (thats why it was called unplugged, duh!), her often raspy voice, & raw vulnerability. People didnt get why she was so emotional & labelled her "crazy", which stuck. But she talked about her struggles with identity post-fame & even how tred she felt & sounded due to taking care of a new baby on top of her demanding career. She wasn't whining or going crazy. She was young & struggling with tons of pressure on her! Too bad that was the beginning of the end of her career. I wonder what else the industry put her thru? I love me some Lauryn Hill! She wasn t just a performer. She was a true artist who had the guts to speak her Truth! ❤

I was watching Lauryn speak at around 11:30 minutes in this video and thought "wow what a mature woman" and in my head thinking she was in her 40s or something. Then she immediately says "at the ripe old age of 25" (at around 12:10 ). meaning she was spitting that lifelong pure wisdom at the age of 25. her brain is well beyond her years

Roberta Flack's version was def a chart topper......it was a remake of the original version. LH was and still is the Queen ,a four way threat. Lauryn Art spoke to me and kept me in line in my youth. She made doing the right thing and saying no when something doesn't feel right cool. Thank you for that, Lauryn. Her light was bright, and no matter where she went or what she did, it showed. Scripture asks: "What does it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his own soul?" Ultimately, it is a choice. Your soul is the part of you that feels the difference between right and wrong. It is the part of you that embodies compassion, kindness, honesty, and guilt. Unfortunately, many people sacrifice their ability to live soulfully in exchange for fame and material possessions. As for me, I had a record deal in my twenties, but much of the work felt soulless, dark, and self-serving. I eventually stopped pursuing that career path because I hated performing for the sake of it instead of expressing myself genuinely.

Funny how we are hearing alot about the predatory behavior in Hollywood and the Music Industry. People with power act like people will do anything for fame and fortune. In a way, it is similar to a Faustian contract. Those like Lauren Hill who refused to participate in henious acts in exchange for wealth and fame are demonized and ostracized from their well deserved industry. This woman is my musical soulmate…I loved her MTV unplugged set just as much as TMEOLH maybe even more. I hope she returns. TMEOLH was such a positive hip hop/rap album, it proved wrong what so many industry power player’s were saying that positive uplifting messages did not sell in the rap hip hop genre of music. Naïvely I thought that the industry would allow more positive artists in the hip-hop/rap category to come out but I was 100% wrong and it literally broke my heart and caused me to see what type of people controlled the music industry..I tuned out for over 20 years, stopped writing songs and barely played my piano and guitar. I am now working on an independent Album still in the song writing phase with a collection of songs. A time proven No no however is to never mix your personal life with business cause when things go south irrational business decisions can be made. I see her absence from the music scene as a black hole in my heart.

I absolutely love Lauren Hill & I'm so happy that I got to see her perform last November for what some said was her final show. She brought her family on stage (kids & grandkids) some were upset but to love her is to love every part of her & I feel blessed that she shared such a personal part of her life with us ❤

I met her yrs ago, As the World Turns channel 2 Dated one of her cousins and didn’t believe they were related until I was brought to her home in South Orange NJ Lauren Hill she was to me Such a Beautiful young lady And she sang His Eye on the Sparrow while playing a piano in her home. That industry is a nasty business I peeped 25 or 30 yrs ago. I saw it change people and took them into other characters for fame and fortune and was glad I saw what it can do to people for money. Sad...but why I went into healthcare adm. While the business was interesting and talent exciting the other sides of it were not for me ...nor was I willing on a number of approaches willing to compromise myself or values..😮😮. Now we are hearing and seeing the devastation on various levels in real time...including tge Diddy raids. But been talking about him for years too. Truth is the light.

I’m a singer. And while recording my first live band album with acclaimed producers, 2 managers and musicians some of them WARNED me; “Don’t be like Lauryn Hill and ruin your career!” I ask them “how do you mean” they said she was rude and a complete diva and got mad because people refused to address her as “Ms, Hill.” I laughed and kept quiet and made a mental note not to hire weak people in my camp. I realized her strength and boundaries made racist caucasian men FURIOUS. She demanded respect and so did I. A year later I fired my entire team! Not because of their “Lauren advice” but because of my boundaries and self respect. They literally want you desperate and doing ANYTHING NO MATTER HOW TOO TIER YOUR TALENT IS! Its like the talented attracts the most jealous men or people and they want to humiliate and use you at the same time. The nerve. I was like “Byeeeeee.” My sun is now my only music producer. Keeping it in the family.

@@MsMookalate ummmm, I think you’re doing that new math regiment too Ms Mook…if there’s a SIX YEAR age gap, it will ALWAYS be a SIX YEAR gap. It will not increase or decrease as the time or months go by. Doesn’t matter if they were born beginning, middle, or the end of the year. It’s already been established the gap is 6yrs. Hope that makes sense to you, and also, I was only breaking balls. I’m not hung up over it. Coulda been a misspoken part or written in error and not caught during the proofread. 🤙🏻✌🏻
