Love Laurence's mannerisms, how clearly he speaks and engages in any conversation going. It's almost like they've been friends for years, he's fits in really well.

Interestingly, on the football x religion thing, Johan Cruyff said "I'm not religious. In Spain all 22 players make the sign of the cross before they enter the pitch. If it works all matches must therefore end in a draw."

@@manlikeJoe1010 no the quote is an abstracted look at what God means to people. If God is personal and if your god loves you and if your god is all powerful then surely your god contradicts everyone else's. Believe it or not when someone is using an example to explain their idea it's not 100% accurate, it's a model and every model has flaws it's the point of the model you should look at
@manlikeJoe1010
4 жыл бұрын
@@jackgormley9599 Are you joking? It's hardly abstract at all, its the most literal interpretation you could conceive of upon witnessing someone cross themselves. The second point you made about 'your god' and its supposed contradiction to everyone else's is not the viewpoint of religious people. Religious people have a personal relationship with god but also understand that god has a personal relationship with all people and is all encompassing. Therefore, your whole point about contradiction is mute. Your final point relating to a model having flaws. Yes, you're right, the example and model does have flaws, which is why I challenged it and pointed out some of the flaws. If the macro (the model) is largely correct but the micro (the examples given to justify the model) are incorrect then the model is faulty and as such is a failure.
I recently saw a comment saying something about stevie and I gotta admit Steve absolutely kills this! He’s perfect for jack and Jordan, he doesn’t talk too much, he doesn’t stay quiet either. He’s got a good sense of humour and he’s just a good person to have on a podcast. Jordan is great and I feel like this podcast has improved ever since he joined, jack is fantastic too. You all know when to be serious and deep, but you can also have a good laugh too. Keep it up guys, I listen to these podcasts every night. 💜

i have numerophobia revolving around the number 24 due down to ocd and superstitious thinking and i see it EVERYWHERE its so horrible and hard but honestly listening to this made me feel better
Similarly, I had the same prayer as a kid which I said every Sunday. How strange!
1:02:03 with regards to the "no footage of alien craft on the last 10 years" there is some footage from I think it was the Mexican air force? I'm sure it was on JRE. Also an American navy pilot was on JRE and talking through his eyewitness account of coming across a "tic tac" alien craft that was able to complete manoeuvres we thought not possible at speeds we are incapable of traveling. Could be worth a watch? The pilot also says the radar operators were picking up these strange blips of the west coast of America and there simply isn't much that can be done to investigate with regards to our own tech.

For me it is 4, but also when I go to sleep, I say something twice just because I was scared at night incase something happens
Hate to say it but I prefer the happy hour to the true georgie pod.
18:00 I had a very similar ‘bout’ of ocd in my youth; mine was around the number 8 and came on after the loss of a grandparent. I did similar kissing photos, touching things 8 times, collecting things in groups of 8 etc. I slowly grew out of it but very occasionally find myself doing old ticks or rituals. 8 remains a favourite/lucky number too. 😅
I had the opposite thing as a kid. I thought I had many imaginary friends, but my family members often saw me with another child in our garden one moment, and the next the child was gone. Example: two windows facing the garden, both could see the swing set clearly from different angles. My aunt - a huge skeptical person - asked " who's that boy on the swings?" My mum looking from the other window said "what boy? It's just holly on the swings." My aunt then described to my mum from the other room the boy she could see - short hair, shorts etc and that I was next to him. My mum said that my aunt was messing with her, that there was no one but me and started to go toward my aunt. Frustrated, my aunt turned to my mum and said "the boy. Out there. Are you blind?" She turned back to the garden and I was still playing but the boy was gone. Could have been a trick of the light for sure. But the swing next to me was still going. My aunt is still a skeptic on most stories she hears, but she swears that there was someone there with me to this day, and my mum swears there wasn't any other child in the garden but me. Looking at the history of the house however, years later, my dad found a picture of the house when it was first built hundreds of years ago, and the boy my aunt described, clothes and all was in that picture, with a girl that looks a lot like I did as a kid. I understand why people dont believe, but there are too many accounts from people I know who would not bullshit me for me not to believe. And, on all accounts, if you're a medium for profit I am instantly skeptical of whatever comes out your mouth. I can't trust someone who is in it for money when it comes to things that can be easily exploited such as grieving family members.
'Apophenia' is the tendency to mistakenly perceive connections and meaning between unrelated things.
Talking about the numbers thing and coincidences (around 20mins in) you should watch the film ‘The number 23’ explores this in depth and really gets into your head and shows how it can affect someone with a mental illness (also has a very good twist)
Painting story is similar to a little story in “The Witches”

I genuinely believe that I could listen to Laurence talk about anything at all for a whole day man. Guy just has a way to make you listen would be a great teacher
Was it just me that kept looking at the volume bars behind Laurence when he was talking?
My theory with the 3 grids is that when grids where first introduced they weren’t particularly safe, if you have 3 in a row the middle grid would have less support than the other 2, so maybe there was a spike in people falling down when there is 3 grids
I did the whole OCD prayer thing, it’s horrible how your brain tortures you. I did it for yearssss

Bex kent it is so tiring mentally, thinking ‘omg did I say it in the right order’ or ‘did I not say this’. Even though you know praying or touching wood changes nothing, not doing it feels like a death sentence
The ending is the best😂
In true's podcast I feel like laurence takes a bake seat and when he does say something I don't really like him for it, but this podcast was great! Really enjoyed all the topics and thought laurence made some great interesting points, definately changed my mind about him!

I remember that triple grater superstition, when I was at school (like 14 yrs ago now) it got brought up at lunch and my mate walked across some while saying it was bullshit and then immediately dropped the battered sausage he’d bought, at 14 this was all the evidence we needed to believe. I still catch myself avoiding them sometimes even tho I know my mate was just a clumsy twat and was gonna drop that sausage regardless of the grate
