I would also like to add that Stan Laurel learned early on in their film career how important the camera look was in a scene to get another laugh. No one could do the cameral look better than Oliver Hardy could when Stan did something stupid or was in the process of doing it. It made it all the funnier. Ollie did the camera look several times in this film and that really added to it. This is one of their best. A couple of more of my favorites that they did was "Towed in a Hole" and " County Hospital". Their will never be another pair like them.

When it was time to sing the national anthem, someone led it, but EVERYBODY SANG IT! Quite likely it was commonplace in saloon bars of the 'Wild West' for the proprietor to keep a variety of weapons to hand - as well as objects such as mallets, hammers, bats & pokers that could be pressed into service as weapons - just for when things (perhaps quite frequently) kicked off.

I love this sketch, simple, funny and beautifully performed with exquisite timing.
Stan laural really was a comic geniues and the brains behind the show he was a work horse even kept writeing after oliver died miss them so much
I can't hear this song without thinking of them. The two most universally beloved comedians of all time. :)
I absolutely love them true comedy genius's no one on planet earth could ever replace them R.I.P

14 is now 98 as of writing this. I think those people just need to be taken blindfolded out to the end of a precipice somewhere high up and pushed off.......put them out of their misery. If God himself could have written comedy and pair 2 guys together then Stan and Ollie would have been his blueprint. Legends.

@@andycross9840 It's 100 today. Some people are just Bad and Wrong and Sad. It's that simple. A precipice? Is that what Stan and Ollie would have done? :) 2500+ votes:) So about 3% we should pity :)

Seriously who could dislike this?! Genius' of comedy and cinema!
I love this so much. It ALWAYS makes me smile. Happy days !!!
Brilliant ! Absolutely brilliant. I had forgotten just how funny Laurel and Hardy were. And STILL are. It is a great shame their films are not shown on British t.v anymore.
Laurel and hardy best double act of all time. Rip 👍👍👍👍
Fascial expressions are great. Comic genius.
So innocent its beautiful - brings a tear to the eye
Absolute total genius. Babe's actions and expressions are pure gold.
Beautiful. My Gran and Papa introduced me to these two unrivalled comedic geniuses when i was a boy. Sheer talent at its finest.

I would also like to know this. Was everything okay, as she was told it would be? Drowning under frozen ice trapped in a stricken aircraft doesn't seem like any sort of positive outcome. The thing with NDEs is, no-one actually dies.

the two funniest men to ever walk the face of the earth and be forever captured on celluloid for future generations to witness real comedy by two beautiful human beings ... never equalled or bettered
I only have to listen to this to remember my Dad. He loved Laurel and Hardy and had a brilliant sense of humour. I had this play at his cremation. He would have been smiling.
Way Out West is such a classic. Beautiful music, hilarious comedy, and one of the best of the best " tell me about my dear dear daddy. Is he really dead?" Stan- " well we hope he is. They buried him" Haha classic

Yes, all our supposedly brilliant technology today has pushed away classic, talent-driven light entertainment into a tiny fraction of the mountain of options on a TV or screen near you. All that technology, yet so much misery guts fare via it. People in the West have forgotten how to entertain and how to be entertained.
@johnrichmond.4783

@@Dustshoe Indeed. Today, even the singers cannot sing where once, the comedians could!
Superb. A surprise hit in the 70's (after both of these comic geniuses had unfortunately passed away). Way out west had some great lines such as when Finn and his girlfriend are trying to fleece the boys into thinking she is Mary Roberts. Real Mary knocks at the door. Finn: Who is it? Real Mary: Mary. Stan: Mary who? Finn: err...Mary Christmas Classic
The funniest comediens. Ever.
Just seen the film stan & ollie and this was in it, fantastic film. Comic genius which was so unique and hilarious
The best that there has ever been.just love em
Blimey, Oliver Hardy was a good singer. Also liked the bit where Stan Laurel, while singing with a woman's voice, waggles his hat and grins - found that very funny.

Glenn Johnson CLASSIC.There will never be another Stan and Olly.
Four candles is good but this is waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyy out in front and will never be topped. The fall at the end is genius on its own. He doesn't break his expression at all. Ollie, testing the mallet on the bar........Priceless. My old man and me would laugh like hell every Saturday morning watching Stan and Ollie and this film was our fav. Our heroes every Saturday.
Smashing! They put a lot of so-called modern comedians to shame. Watched them as a kid, still love them. Going in for another round!
We played it at my Dad’s funeral along with Groucho’s ‘ Lydia the tatood Lady ‘
Hard to believe that there's ppl out there who's never seen Laurel and Hardy I've always loved them so much growing up :-) my fav fav short film of there's if you've not seen it you def should is the 19min classic TOAD IN THE HOLE, were they buy a fishing boat to do it up with hilarious results, its so funny from start to end. The dons. When I watch physical comedy now, I always see scenarios and stunts that were written by Stan Laurel. The funniest double act ever, for me.
The bar tender always cracks me up !
Best comedians ever😊😂😂
Stan laurel's voice changing is the best part and the bit where he calls over 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Ollie actually did have a lovely singing voice! I love to hear him sing, and I just love Stannie anyway... :)) ...love 'em, always will.... x/o
I wonder if this was an inspiration for the famous only fools and horses bar scene. Its fabulous of course!

Great Scott! I Could have sworn the song was called The Trail of the Twin Pines. At least that's what I used to remember listening to it between 1955 and 1985.
I loved the lonesome trail in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia!
Fun fact: Oliver Hardy started his career as an Vaudeville singer. He sang for silent film slides
CLASSIC, SUPERB !
I've always loved these guys!
Hardy was a superb tenor and Laurel was certainly a good baritone; this is a combination just right for duets such as this and it's kind of a shame that music this way didn't figure more in their films though it's my understanding that Laurel considered such interludes distracting from their comedic routines. Either way, Stan 'n' Ollie were terrific.
COMEDY PERFECTION.
